I think I can speak for all of your subscribers when I say we are thrilled to see you posting these videos. Best instruction on KZbin. My guess is that this fly represents a baitfish or at least something alive & edible. Thanks & best regards.......Kevin.

Took me a few go's to get a fly I was happy with as there is alot going on in the fly and quite tricky to tie. Managed to get to grips with it and have produced 3 of these for my box and they look great (not as good as yours mind). I have to say tying wet flys is definately my favourite and am really enjoying producing the wet section of the box. They mayflys in particular are very satisfying to tie.

Cheers Davie from the Great White North, Another well produced fly tying instructional video. I really like the Irish flies you have tied as I spend a good deal of time in Northern Ireland each year and I am planning to include some fishing during my next trip. Your videos on using organza have been brillant and the flies produced have been well received locally. Looking forward to putting them to the test once ice out in another 6-10 weeks. I would reallly like to see you include some streamer patterns that might be used in Canada for species other than trout (e.g. bass, pike, salmon, steelhead, carp, drum etc.) I realize you probably do not get much call for this, but I know coarse fishing is quite popular in the UK. Anything you might produce along these lines would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work. Kindest regards

Thanks for the details Davie - especially on your dubbing technique! I have to tie up some more winged wet flies as I have few in the box - I typically fish nymphs and streamers. Seems the fish on your side of the pond have a preference for bushier flies, local fish here have a preference for ones that are very sparcely tied. A very nice pattern! ATB, Hank

Hi MrAlamo1957, I'm glad you enjoy the videos and the flies I tye. I have a variant of the Soldier Palmer on youtube though it's not got a wool tail as I was tying a hopper version that a friend likes to use..I've attached a link to the video for you... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fniZlq2onrWbZ5Y All the very best Davie

Another lovely fly Davie, I really love to watch you tie. I am not sure I will ever be as accurate because I cannot spend enough time tying. I do strive to be as good as possible. I did learn to tie neat flies, not for the fish but the fishermen. All the best to you and your family. Sean

Thanks for tying these Irish wets & classic wets. as well as salmon and all the others you've done. they're the flies I've wanted to learn how to tie. plus the methods of fishing them as it so foreign to me. now that dabbler would be fished on the top dropper or at least near the surface? it's designed to push water, the reason for all the hackle & a lot of materials at the head of the fly? thanks Davie, atb. even my spell check is learning, it prints your name when I abbreviate all the best!

Hi Joe Duca, The dabbler can be fished anywhere on the cast but it's a perfect pattern for the top dropper just as you described and where I would fish it a lot myself...Irish and Classic wets are great patterns to fish and tye and will always test you in many ways as that's why I enjoy tying them...I'm glad you enjoy watching and learning from the videos... All the very best Davie

+Davie McPhail Davie, thank you. I've been wanting to tell you this since I commented on F.Betters Usual that you tied. a lot of channels featured that fly and I went to one that I was very familiar with, Bucktailjigs. I read the comments and there was yours! that tier, Al Daher, owns Micky's, a bait & tackle shop in N.Syracuse N.Y. U.S.A., where I grew up. I've bought my materials & bait there for years. I called them immediately! also, I've seen Chris Helm comment on your channel. if he is the deer hair guru tyer that recently passed I couldn't say. but I thought I would share this with you because I feel good being part of the fly tying community. ATB Davie!

Superb fly as always Davie, I've been trying to get better at tying dabblers recently. Sorry to ask such a predictable question but what sort of fly box do you recommend for storing dabblers and other classic wets? I'm always reluctant to crush the palmered hackle so usually resort to a compartment box, but can't fit many pattern in. Thanks for everything Steve

Hi Steve, At the moment I prefer the silicon boxes like the Tacky and the Fulling Mill version as both hold the hook and flies really well without doing much damage to them though once you give them a swim they will sit nice again..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the kind words.... All the very best Davie..

Another great tie Davie! Thanks for all your videos. I've read several classic salmon books and I've seen the reverse hackling technique before, but is there a reason for reverse hacking over tying it in at the rear and winding forward? All the best Davie!
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 жыл бұрын
Hi flyfishaholic, Some tyers will tye from the rear winding the hackle up the body in line with the rib but if I was doing it I would wind the hackle the opposite way to the rib so that it would counter rib and protect the hackle from being broken of by the fish's teeth.. All the very best Davie
