This has to be one of my favourites for this time of year, have had a lot of success with this recently in a Short Shank #12 barbless. Just got back to my tying table to replenish a few boxes so thought I’d revisit some of your classics... hope you’re keeping well Davie and s always a fantastic tips video pal.

I love the flash and rib on the belly of this fly. I used the technique for a basic foam beetle and it has produced quite well. I have been fishing small streams for native brook trout in Pennsylvania and managed to sight fish a 22 inch rainbow with the fly. Thanks for the tip.

Love the tip about wrapping the rib in the same direction as the thread, have to admit I've been doing the opposite!! As a beginner I find these tutorials and Facebook really useful.. Happy New Year to you and your family, and to Davie fans worldwide.... Regards Chris Leigh

Hello Davie, excellent job.... only one question....in this case, what we can use instead deer(elk)hair... wish you the best in New year and just keep going!!

Sorry, almost forgot...big hugs from Serbia
@DavieMcPhail4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nenad Isailovic, I would just palmer the body with a black hackle or even use black hackle fibres instead of the deer hair as I know it would fish just as well...Best wishes from Scotland.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie , Excellent tying and looks very effective, do you think that instead of the wire you could use some kind of flash braid /thread and instead of the deer hair , a few black CDC feathers.
@DavieMcPhail6 жыл бұрын
Hi Stuart, I have ribbed them with just the thread in the past and they worked fine so trying different ways is certainly worth a go, I need to tye some of these for my next outing so I might tye a couple slightly different myself.. All the very best Davie...

Thanks Davie ,I will give it a go with black CDC aswell ,its the ribbed green underbody that's the attraction here ,will try the orange side as well thanks again

Hi Davie, I know you counter rib the fly to protect the herl, have you ever put the herl in a dubbing loop to protect it? I saw someone do this earlier on... Excellent fly and video once again! Best Regards, ~David

Hey Davie, I know I have seen you tie this fly before. I have no idea why I didn't comment. I now have the Peacock and orange flash. I will tie some of these. I still don't have dyed black peacock so I will use regular. I don't think the fish will mind. All the best to you and yours. Sean
@DavieMcPhail9 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, Just use the natural peacock herl as it will work just as well, it's one of the best materials that any fly tyer could use on any of their flies..The Peacock and Orange is a good tinsel as well to have in your tying kit...Thanks again for all your kind words... All the very best Davie
