This is a great looking pattern. I’m going to tie some up in a few sizes. Thank you Davie.

I was fishing in the midst of a Hawthawn hatch today and didn't have any. This is a fantastic and easy to tie fly. Thank you for posting such a quality talkthrough.. I have now 8 hawthawns in my box for tomorrow.. tight lines

Hi I've just tied 7 of your detached body hawthorn fly's ready for tomorrow as I spooned my first fish I caught on Wednesday and I never had any of these fly's in any of my boxes to use and thanks to you I now know how to tie my own .I tied some of your black diawlbacks and used them on Wednesday and caught 3 nice sized rainbows .Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

What a convincing imitation, brilliant. Love the method for making the body, thank you! Walking in the local hills last week, there were hundreds of Heather flies. In some areas they had black legs, in other areas they had red legs.

@DavieMcPhail thanks for the reply, I also used pheasant tail feather, but mine has shorter fibers and I had a lot of problems with the knots =) thanks again, I will search for longer fibers next time =)

I am not sure we have these flies in America? I have never seen one. It is a weird looking thing with no tail. I may tie a couple, it may look enough like another,(esp mayfly at night) I will give it a go. Thanks for posting it. Sean
