Thanks for another great video Davie. I think I may be able to tie this one. You have also got rid of a false belief I had. The growth that I always thought you should get removed from your right index finger turns out to be none other than a cleverly placed piece of wax. Seriously! I have seen it from time to time over the past few years, but today you clearly use it. Ha ha ha!
@DavieMcPhail9 жыл бұрын
Hi nosineb, I've got to agree with you the wax looks like something you wouldn't like to see on anyone's hand but it does help you to tye your flies easier at times...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I know you'll enjoy tying and fishing this famous old fly... All the very best Davie

another great video, so you have to take a section from a left side feather and a right side feather, so they are symmetric ?
@DavieMcPhail5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, Yes that is right you have take a slip of feather from a left and a right side of a feather to do this if you want the wing to sit right...I'm glad you enjoyed the video... All the very best Davie..

Another great Fly! Davie may I ask you what is the wax you are using? I bought a Veniard Tying Kit and the wax is very solid. Thanks and Tight Lines
@DavieMcPhail9 жыл бұрын
Hi Guenter Mair, I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax which is the same as the one you may have, and it should be hard. What you have to do is break a small piece off and soften it by holding it under the warm water tap or by holding it in your hand as the warmth will do the same. Once you have the wax soft then work it between your fingers until it's tacky and as you will see in the video I attach it to the side of my finger ready to be used...Let me know how you get on with it.. All the very best Davie

Thank you Davie... worked a treat mate. Since watching your Videos I tied some of your Patterns and started only using my tied flies from now on and on my last two outings I caught 17 Rainbows... cheers and keep those Videos coming. Tight Lines Guenter

Hi Davie. In your opinion does this fish better with or without wings please? I’m looking at tying greenwell spiders but I wonder if the wings are more for decoration/fly tying skill?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, I would say I have had most fish on the spider though fished together they make a great team, I mostly fish them between hatches in the spring..I remember when I was struggling one day and I tore the wing in half to give it a more nymph look and had a great day using it when things were hard.. All the very best Davie..

Hello Mr.Davie McPhail The tying vice of manufacturers question is that you are using? At the same, are you wearing to the right of the finger? It is a fan to respect you. Tell me please

Hello tadashi matsubara, I use a Law Vise but unfortunately it's no longer being made which is a shame..It's a small piece of tying wax which I have stuck to the side of my finger ready to be used when tying...I am glad that you like the videos and the flies that I tye... All the very best Davie

I always thought it was mallard wings to be used, is starling easier to manage?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, Either can be used to tye a Greenwells Glory and I have used them many a time when tying both wets and dries...The Starling is a soft and finer fibre so it's especially good for smaller flies.. All the very best Davie
