Body: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, White
Collar: Rooster Saddle Hackle, Red and White, wrapped together

The Red & White Bucktail is a fun fly to tie as well as fish. There are a couple of interesting techniques to tying this fly otherwise the fly is a very straightforward bucktail streamer. The best part is the fly is good for both trout and Smallmouth Bass! The streamer bite is on in the Midwest and now is a great time to tie up some Red & White Bucktail Streamers! - Enjoy

Does it matter what thread you use?

Only from the stand point of a smaller diameter thread. As well as the two colors. Because the fly uses a White floss body any other thread color than white will darken or discolor the body. You can use a Uni-Thread (say an 8/0) or a UTC 70 denier. Whatever thread you use, keep is a 6/0 or smaller. Having said all that.... it is a Red and WHITE bucktail. If you want it to be a Red and BLUE bucktail then use a blue thread for under the body. You get the idea. Thanks for asking! - Ian Anderson
