I cannot understand for the life of me why so many folks in the community act like Tyler Perry is beyond reproach or criticism simply because he's Black. If we're spending our hard earned Black Dollars to support him then we have every right to criticize and call him out on his b.s. It's the same ole formula with him: Overload you with trauma porn, low down overly abusive Black Man, Good Man McGee shows up to rescue the bitter broken abused Black Woman from despair and they live happily ever after.

The thing is, just like rap and hip hop music its more yt and other races of ppl that watch his movies than actual black ppl. Which is why its annoying to say the least that he continues to write and exploit the negative side of black ppl that is easily stereotyped to be how all black people are.

No Tony you are absolutely right about his writing style. At this point I am convinced Tyler is telling his story growing up in an abusive household but using a black women pain to market it. The abusive man it every film is his father and the mistreated woman is his mother. Also, that good man that comes in and "saves the day" is maybe who he wished he had growing up.... maybe.

There was absolutely no nuisance in the film whatsoever, I found myself asking the same exact question "why would she even marry this guy" and mind you the question truthfully was never even answered in the entire film and all in all after watching. It felt like wasted time. He could've kept this. I'm sorry and it was diabolical to use 2 actors who both have just went through troubling divorces as the leads to. Which could've gave way to a much more introspective story of what it is to go through and the ebbs and flows of emotions one goes trough or could possibly go through but instead we got.... TRASH LOL

He did show a flashback of moments when things were ‘good’ but it was very brief 😭 I agree, the movie angered me, but in reality i think some women are in relationships like this and they may believe that about themselves. Overall, I like the cast. They all worked well together in this movie. Megan looks amazing 🤩

I agree 100%. Tyler needs to also give black writers good paying opportunities, as well. And I don't think he should take these bad reviews as hating, but as constructive criticism. He has done AMAZING things that got him to where he is now, but it could be even GREATER if he simply let others do the writing, or at least some of it. Imagine the black writers POWERHOUSE he could build. I think his writing style works for plays and TV shows, but he struggles with movies. Tyler has a lot of trauma from his childhood... he mentioned how it led him to create these fantasy worlds he would go to in his mind and it feels like he still writes from that place and that's why things always seem fanatical and extreme and just over the top. Humbly I say, it's time to mature from that place alone. Also, I know the actors and crew probably love shooting and wrapping in ~3 weeks, but it creates an underlying rushed/low budget feel to the movies. Everything feels like its the first and only take and the editing team has little to work with. But this movie specifically... that opening scene was way over the top... Like REALLY? There was the ONE moment Dallas showed a peek into why he's the way he is... but then it was just dropped and never mentioned again. I was also ANNOYED by the best friend who wrote down everything Dallas did... Who does that? It's like he thought... "How can the mom find out about everything... Ooooo! I got it!" Also, the timing of that 1.5hr drive between hometown and ATL just wasn't mathing. How he had time to, chill in the cut and stalk outside the bank, kill all them animals and act a fool in the grocery store and it was still daylight? And I got sicka "WHAT THE HELL YALL LOOKING AT!!?!?!" coming out of Dallas mouth. Outside of why she was with Dallas, and Dallas himself, the thing I wondered most about is that momma. Why in the hell is she so evil and proudly raised the town menaces and terrorists? Literally, make it make sense.

I agree with this review. His movies are like “click bait” at this point. My favorite movie is ‘A Jazzman Blues’ simply because no one knows that it’s a TP film because it’s different and he took 5 years to write that movie so it wasn’t so rushed. And, the story is realistic and historic.
@danavixen6274
@danavixen6274 Ай бұрын
He should follow the Quality vs Quantity aesthetic more often. A Jazzman's Blues is proof of this. 90% of what TP creates is rushed otherwise. Depth, logic and nuance need not apply. 🙄

My favorite non Medea movies were Good Deeds and Why Did I Get Married (only the first one, not the second one). Both films had great actors. One thing that drives me crazy is that Tyler often takes from blockbuster movies and incorporates scenes into his films. For instance, in Good Deeds I couldn’t help but think of Pursuit of Happiness. Remember, Thandie was the mom in Pursuit of Happiness, but now she’s homeless in Tyler’s film. And while she and her daughter didn’t sleep in the bathroom, they did toss in a scene with them in a super dirty bathroom! Then there was the scene on the motorcycle (cue Purple Rain and they are the new Prince and Apollonia heading to Lake Minnetonka).
