Sharecroppers were formerly enslaved African Americans who were tricked into basically indentured servitude to the same landowners they had just been freed from. My great grandmother was one, they would pick cotton like the enslaved did in exchange for land to rent and compensation, but they never actually made enough money. Most left during the great migration north, which is how my great grandmother got to Chicago.

30:23 John Amos became popular for his roles as the father in the TV show "Good Times" and the "Roots" series. You all probably know him from roles in films like Eddie Murphy's "Coming to America" & "Coming 2 America" as the owner of McDowells restaurant (with the Big Mic, *_NOT_* the Big Mac😅). He was also in the sequel Die Harder and was an admiral in the TV show, "West Wing" with Martin Sheen. He passed away earlier this year. 2024 saw the loss of a lot of people. RIP
