All That She Wants is darker. The Sign is more straight forwad radio pop for sure. Both were massive. All That She Wants peaked at #2 in The Us for many weeks while peaking at #1 for 3 weeks in the Uk and at #1 in Germany for 8 weeks becoming the best selling song if 1993 there. The Sign peaked at #1 in the US for 6 weeks becoming the biggest song if 1994 while the same titled album also became the biggest selling album of 1994. The Sign, the song also peaked at #1 in Germany, Australiq and many other places and #2 in the Uk. Their album sold 25 million. They were unstoppable at the time. 90s legends. The blond girl has a very cool, distinctive voice. She sang most of their debut albums while her sister became more of a lead singer on their third album.

Don't Turn Around, Wheel Of Fortune, Living In Danger and Happy Nation were big hits from the same era. Beautiful Life and Lucky Love from their 1995 follow up album. I think Dont Turn Around and Wheel Of Fortune definitely need reactions.

Although released in 1994 and arguably the #1 song of that year, its popularity has increased in recent years. I think it's partly due to content creators.

The fascinating mystery of Ace of Base is of the blond sister Linn, who was lead vocalist on All That She Wants and the earlier songs, suddenly steps back from and almost disappears from view in later videos with no explanation. Recommendations for other reactions are Beautiful Life, Life is a Flower and Living in Danger.

yep Linn started to distance herself from the music world after her sister Jenny and her mother were attacked with a knife by some crazed fan who broke into their home in Sweden, she apparently still lives in goteborg near Jonas but she has changed her name and looks totally different now. There is a photo on facebook of how she looks now but i would never have recognised her.

Yes, I've heard that story about the attacker/stalker too. Such a shame. You can see her withdrawal occurring even whilst still in the band. In the video for "Unspeakable" she's vaguely there, just in the background

Two boys, two girls, and both from Sweden. That's why they're always being compared to ABBA. Fun fact: the sign is the biggest song in the United States in the year 1994. This song is produced by denniz pop, the mentor of Max Martin, the uber producer of today's modern hits who wrote and produce songs for britney spears, nsync, BsB, Taylor swift, Kelly Clarkson, katy perry, adele and many more.

This album was huge in the 90's. For me, ABBA will always be in a league of their own, but similarities for Ace of Base do stand (in addition to them being from Sweden). Like Marisa states in the reaction, but sisters have great voices. Linn's is so clear and pitch perfect and Jenny's has a unique aspect to her voice, a little deeper/darker. And they can harmonize well together, like Agnetha and Frida did. The men here never sing a full on lead, but do backing vocals and parts of some songs. Mostly they are the writes and musical arrangers like Benny and Bjorn. B & B are more sophisticated with their musical arrangements, but Ulf and Jonas did some cool synth experimentations with mixing instrumentation and musical styles.
@christianoazzuro67112 жыл бұрын
I like Linn's contralto voice and the perfect way she harmonizes with her sister Jenny(though they couldn't produce the utopic sound that Frida's and Agnetha's voices did neither had the same visual chemistry).But even though it's unavoidable propably unfair to do further comparisons cause not only they were one of the finest,coolest '90s band but they got to be given credit for being songwritters with their own identity and sound and not just 'puppet performers' of other composers music.

Happy Nation was a huge hit in 1994 as well. It's from the same album that has All That She Wants and The Sign but it has a different vibe. It's more like new age-euro-reggae kind of thing. The song sounds so timeless even today. I think Happy nation was not a single in USA I don't know why.

Thank you for another great reaction!❤ Three siblings and their best friend from the West Coast of Sweden (Gothenburg). They have catchy songs that went all over the world and that's the only similarity with ABBA who are well rounded musicians. What Ace of Base represents is the simplicity of making music, music that everyone can make it in their room at their parent's home :) Their music sounds home made on a summer school break in every sense of the word but that's also the charm with it:) Suggestion of another song to react to could be "It's a beautiful life" . Another Swedish band that was more interesting creativity wise, different and also enjoyed big international success with many hits was Army of lovers, have a listen to their debut hit "Obsession"🇸🇪❤😉 ps. The Swedish band Alcazar is another constellation that might look a little ABBA:ish at first glance. Their hits "Crying at the discoteque", "Physical", "Tis is the world we live in" and "Start the fire" will make you smile and dance :) Lot's of love from Sweden to you and all your subscribers!❤🇸🇪

Abba of the 90‘s with the note that they knew how to sound in the 90‘s a thing that ABBA was not able to.. Abba as much as i adore them were not able to shift into the 80‘s sound either not to mention the 90‘s but maybe if they would have been young in the 90‘s that’s what they might have sounded like. Different generation different approach different inspiration.. but some major ingredients are typical abba.
