Cracks me up when I hear comments like this. How do you determine that it is underrated? Underrated by those that have been? not been? if its the latter then they can't really rate it. And if it's the former, can you direct me to the data that reflects those that do not rate it? I've been many times and rate it and I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that it's a shit hole or that they don't rate it. Sorry to pick on your comment, but it is a ridiculous statement when you think about it.

I’ve never been to Niagra falls and know it’s stunning, there are thousands, millions of places in the world that are going to be not that known which are amazing, that people don’t talk about. @@struebz If you haven't heard of something how can it be underrated. Underrated means to have more attraction or importance than what people recognise. Not whether they have heard of it or been to a place. I would say Snowdonia for example is very popular. It attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year. Wales like the rest of the UK is steeped in history. People travel from all over the world visit every year.

An American colleague of my husbands came and stayed with us we took him for the weekend to The Lake District, he was blown away, he had only seen London, and just didn't realise what he was missing, since then he brought his family for three weeks holiday and travelled round, he really fell for the UK, he's now thinking of relocating to Chester. He said for health, safety and the slower pace of life.

Love Chester, it has everything(even a massive zoo), used to go quite often. 2nd place Northumberland, beaches, island, castles you name it. But it was my mother's birth place so maybe I am bias. Did however travel all round England,and Wales also visited Scotland and Ireland, lucky me.

Going to the pre-Derby meeting at Chester races in May is one of the things on my bucket list that I still want to tick off. Although I intend paying in order to gain access to the course itself, apparently: The east of the racecourse directly verges onto Chester's ancient city walls which were once used to moor Roman trading vessels, before the course of the river changed. Spectators can watch races for free from the walls which offer a clear view of the whole circuit.

We are very blessed in the UK I think..for such a small country we have a little bit of everything, mountains, Highlands, lowlands, marshes, lakes, rivers, beautiful beaches and coastal areas, villages and towns and ancient cities.

Except the current Government have ensured quite a bit of it is now threatened by excessive sewage in the waterways and sea - Cornwall is really suffering. Plus our wildlife has been completely decimated. 😂😂

The Isle of Skye is absolutely stunning honestly. You can absolutely see why people used to think certain mythical creatures were real. It's right there in the landscape. Totally surreal.

Indeed, in an hour's travel we can move from sandy beaches through green rolling hills to craggy mountains and deep valleys. I grew up in Southport but was a member of the Fell Walking Club and ventured most weekends to the challenges of the Lakeland fells (when I was considerably younger and fitter--although, even then, I was never tempted by the Group A walkers who seemed to regularly manage 20 miles and half a dozen peaks before returning to the coach).

A deep dive into the south-west and Cornwall would be really rewarding. Rugged coastline, beautiful beaches, fishing villages, palm trees, myths and legends, ghost stories and tales of smuggling. It's a favourite destination for brits when they don't go abroad because of its landscape, climate and vibe which has a more mediterranean feel than the rest of the UK.

Cornwall is gorgeous, but unfortunately me and our missus were priced out of there and had to move up country. 😢 A stunningly beautiful village to visit is Polperro, that place was achingly beautiful and I would love to go there again

I moved to the UK from the US eleven years ago. I'm amazed by such a small group of countries that have so many sights to explore! (Small compared to the US) My British hubs made it a point to take me places to explore at least twice a year, sans the plague. My favorite places. (So far) Northern Wales - (All of it) but especially Snowdonia. York! - It is such an amazing city with a rich history and ancient architecture. Iron Bridge. - The Iron Bridge is a cast iron arch bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire, England. Opened in 1781, it was the first major bridge in the world. The village is beautiful! Many, many amazing historic castles. I make it a point to go to one or two a year. Ludlow - Wonderful food, beautiful village, and Ludlow castle. Bath - Roman history and unearthed Roman bathhouses. Chester. - Chester was founded in 79 AD as a "castrum" or Roman fort with the name Deva Victrix during the reign of Emperor Vespasian. There has been a lot unearthed and so much to discover. My list is long, but my top few are a good start. :) ETA: We're going to stay on the coast of Cornwall for my birthday in two weeks. Another new experience and everyone tells me it is amazing!

You can't really go wrong in Cornwall. It's just lovely. If you're plump in the pocket you can fly or get a ferry to the Scilly Isles for the day. But it's free to walk over to St Michael's Mount when the tide's out or wander the 3 miles of Cornish Riviera beach. You MUST have a Cornish cream tea though. Bad for the waistline but good for the soul!

It won't be our last visit because we plan on retiring to Cornwall. Three years until retirement! I'm so excited! We can roam to our heart's content when the time comes.

North, South, East and West, the UK has beautiful areas everywhere. I live the Cotswolds in a teeny tiny village in a 300 year old cottage and I count my blessings daily. It's like going back in time. Wales, Scotland and Ireland are all amazing.

The seasons affect our landscapes dramatically. There is nothing like woods full of bluebells in spring. Yorkshire has lots of daffodils. Scotland when the purple Heather is in bloom clothing all the hills and mountains. I used to live in Ripon and when you came within 8 miles the countryside started to look like a postcard. Tiny place with a gorgeous Cathedral marina, racecourse and 3 rivers including the gorgeous Ure which flows down to York. We were close to World Heritage site FOUNTAINS ABBEY AND STUDLEY PARK ROYAL Less stunningly beautiful but still dramatic enough to have been a Victorian tourist destination BRIMAM ROCKS, also near Harrogate , York and on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

If you like castles you should look up Northumberland. Alnwick Castle was used for filming of Harry Potter. Bamburgh castle is another amazing attraction. If you watched the Last Kingdom. Uhtrid son of Uhtrid of babenburgh ( Bamburgh, Northumberland). Holy Island has Lindisfarne castle. Also Warkworth castle and Dunstanborough castle.

The study of place names is very important in telling us about our history and culture. You can look up a database of English place names and it will tell you about the linguistic origins of the name, whether it was Anglo-Saxon, viking etc. You can use it to trace where the vikings settled and the Danelaw

So glad you googled North Wales! This is MY part of the world and it really is stunning. I’m very proud of my Welsh heritage. Beautiful scenery, beautiful coastline, beautiful walks. Plus, castles galore! Also, Eryri is the Welsh name for Snowdonia. Also, the football team I support is now owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Rural Northumberland has some of the UK's most unspoilt beautiful and varied landscapes.Including Hadrians Wall and the huge ancient roman influence on the roads and in the towns like Corbridge,Northumberlans near where I live. Even my humble little rural village has a 12th century church and a castle woodlands and river.

My local city of Durham is canny. The walk along the river next to the cathedral is nice, being local I guess I don't appreciate it like others. Also has the coolest train station entrance straight of a viaduct that lets you see over the top of the city (only coming from the south) very unique.

Poor Northumberland never got a mention. We've got beautiful hills, a gorgeous coastline with long sandy beaches that don't even get anywhere near full in the height of summer (as they're so big), castles galore - many of which are right on the coast, any amount of history from Lindisfarne (Holy Island) back in time to the Romans (Hadrian's Wall), the Normans and so much more. If you like wildlife we've got one of the largest colonies of Puffins in the UK and thousands of seals. You can also go dolphin hunting off the coast and occasionally you can spot Orcas.

Last time we went to Scotland from where we live in the south east we stopped and broke our journey on the way up. Stayed near Loch Ness. Coming back we made one journey which took us around thirteen hours. I am glad you are showing these lovely places and appreciating their beauty. The two main beaches on the sides of the furness peninsula are absolutely stunning at the right time of day. Oh. And if youre ever over in the direction of Lincoln. Visit the cathedral and castle, and make sure to take a peek over the top of the turrets.

Beer is a very pretty little town with lovely scenery, nice shops and a cliff walk. It's quite hilly and has a stream running down the side of the footpath. The beach isn't bad. Rye is worth visiting and has the benefit of Great Dixter being near by, which is a beautiful garden created by Christopher Lloyd. Our towns are near the sea because we are a small island that has a LOT of coastline! North Wales is beautiful but so is South Wales with fantastic beaches, Rhossili on the Gower Peninsular, the Pembrokeshire coast and Brecon Beacons. This is a beautiful country. I think the Lake District is my favourite place and can't wait to go back in September. Snowdonia is in Wales and is very well known in the UK. The Yorkshire dales is also very nice but so are the Moors and coast. Northumberland is fantastic and very historical. The west coast of Britain is very hilly but here in the east it gets flatter, as in completely flat with a lot of fenland. This flat area of beautiful villages is also very pretty and the big beautiful skies make up for the lack of elevation. You should look for a you tube about Lavenham in Suffolk. Lock Ness is the lake and Nessy is the monster. it is a beautiful region. I have stayed next to Loch Ness and the water does move strangely, so a monster is easy to believe in. And that castle is pronounced Urk hart. London is ok, but you have to like cities to find it a great place. Personally I'd rather visit a beach, wood, or hill, or lake. The Cotswolds is a large area of lovely villages.

Britain is a gorgeous country. I think we have more diversity of landscapes than almost any other country of our small size. The likes of Wordsworth wrote about their love for our countryside in their famous poems.

If you want to avoid tourists and see beautiful beaches, the Outer Hebrides is where you need to go. And Luskentyre Beach is probably the prettiest of all. And I know I mention this anytime this sort of video appears. BTW, the full size of the Scottish Highlands including other counties such as Perthshire is approximately the size of the whole country of Wales, so you do need to be a bit more specific.

The Mourne Mountains, Fermanagh Lakelands and the Antrim Glens it's coastline are 3 areas of outstanding beauty in Northern Ireland.. Certainly rivals anything on the mainland UK.

I interviewed him after the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District were argued about which was the best place - he said "Neither, Northumberland is the best place..." Check out " available light images of the isle of wight" a small island off the south coast of England. Its just 13 miles x 23 miles but has the most amazing scenery, it has everything from countryside to over 70 beaches. Thames River is pronounced tems. If a place name has a mouth in it its generally pronounced muth.

Read the book 'Written in Jest' by a chap called Michael A. Lee. He spent a couple of years applying for improbable, non-existent jobs, such as Harbour Master of Wigan Pier, Stable Boy for the 4 Horsemen Of The Apocalypse, The Sheriff of Nottingham etc. He also wrote to Bodmin Council applying to be the 'Official Beast of Bodmin Moor'. the council offered him the job, which he accepted. So, if you want to see the Beast of Bodmin Moor, he's a man called Michael and he lives in Huddersfield! TRUE STORY.

Tyler, if you look at the prices of flights to Europe (depending on the time of year and day of the week), you will see that it doesn’t really cost that much. It costs my sister more to fly from Pittsburgh to North Dakota or Washington State than it does for her to fly to Germany. And, with the connections she had to take to get to N.D., the flight to Frankfurt, Germany was shorter (about 8 1/2 hours direct flight). Also, you don’t have to stay at an expensive hotel. There are plenty of B&B’s, campgrounds where you can rent a bungalow or mobile home, etc. So grab your significant other, book some flights, and do a Vlog of your trip oversees (or even Canada). Ryan said you grew up in PA. If so, you were about a 4- or 5-hour drive from Niagara Falls.

The Britannia Royal Naval College is in Dartmouth. Its is the UK version of the USN's Annapolis Naval College. There is a US Ivy League college, called Dartmouth. That could be what was ringing a bell for you.

Go to North Berwick on the east coast of Scotland just a short train ride from Edinburgh. A conservation order was put on it around 1959/1960. Very lovely.

The north east of England has many places with the Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of which is Weardale. It is beautiful. There are other places like the Lake District. We have beaches, castles marinas. We are often ignored but the landscapes are brilliant.

Pembrokesher is how it is pronounced, in the US you have New Hampshire. Shire is pronounced Sher, the monarch’s representative in a shire was called a Reave, this morphed into Sheriff hence the Sheriff of Nottingham in the Robin Hood story.

If you have a few minutes look at the Pennines, a mountain range known as the backbone of England. All four of the nations of the UK have their own stunning areas of natural beauty. If you have a few more minutes look at Rick Steves on here, an American world traveller whose numerous UK videos are fantastic!

agreed. and while the Snake Pass is beautiful in the summer, it's not the place to be in the winter. it goes from being welcoming to 'icy hell' and 'road closed' in just three minutes of light snow and a generous frost 🤣 then again, in the summer, you have to be very aware of sheep. coming back from a wedding, and avoiding the motorway, we took the Snake Pass and every other bend had either a standing sheep, or clusters of three or four sheep lying in the road 'because they could' and they're so hardy that no matter how hard you hit the horn, they're not budging. never argue with sheep. you will lose! always carry a sheep impersonator in your party. you'll need 'em 👍

Bath is there because at least for two thousand years people have flocked to the natural hot spring. The Roman Baths have authentically survived up to about 5 feet high above water, and the rest of what you see is a reconstruction from about 1900. Unfortunately they can't let you swim in the water, because there are pathogens. But the City has built a beautiful modern Spa using the water. It's supposed to be good but expensive. Also in the City is a great amount of Georgian architecture, and a massive Gothic Cathedral called Bath Abbey. Pembrokeshire is well known for its beautiful and nearly unspoiled coast. The bay you saw is only one of many. There is just so much, and our laws means you can walk around most of it without trespassing. The only problem with the mountainous regions is the weather! In those areas it really can rain, so you should develop strategies to visit nearby areas when it's pouring.

When a place ends in Mouth, like Exmouth, Dartmouth, it is pronounced Muth. Urquhart is pronounce Uck-art. There used to be an open air pool in Bath which was part of the Roman Baths. However it closed due to people falling ill. The water is warm. The Cotswolds are beautiful, village upon village with buildings built from honey coloured stone. Glamorgan is pronounced Glam-organ. Most of our beaches are deserted apart from in tourist spots. Being an Island the UK has a vast coastline. One of my favourite places is Aysgarth Falls in North Yorkshire, also Bolton Abbey. There is a little place my father took us to it is called Deer Stones, relatively unknown but perfect for a picnic by a stream on a sunny day.

Snowdonia is such a beautiful place! You really do feel like you’ve gone back in time when you spend a day there! It homes the tallest mountain in wales which is cunningly called Snowdon 😂 but for anyone wanting to climb it, don’t get caught out because even on the warmest summer days it’s still very cold up on the summit!

I've been up Snowdon during a temperature inversion which is quite strange as the temperature is reversed so it gets warmer as you climb.

Village names near me: Stanford Dingley Tutts Clump Cold Ash Chaddleworth Leckhampstead Egypt Bucklebury (if you know Lord of the Rings you will have heard of Bucklebury Ferry) there is a Ford in the river but alas no ferry in real life.

For me I love Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses, Whitby, Tynemouth, York and Edinburgh. Where I live I can be in the countryside in 5 minutes, the coast in 30. I live right next to a part of hadrians wall so used to tourists stopping at the top of my street in buses.

I live near Rye in Eastbourne, we have Beachy Head in the Sussex Downs (Hills) by the sea... beautiful. Brighton is half an hour away. We have a Roman Castle called Pevensey a mile away.

I live 15 minutes from the centre of Bath with the cotswolds up the road. It's a very beautiful part of the world. I feel blessed to live here. The amount of beauty and history within this area is astounding. I can see Wales up to the brecon beacons on some days whilst out and about. By the way you can bathe in the cross bath, just not in the main baths due to some heavy metals in the water x0x

Avebury in Wiltshire - largest stone circle in Europe. So large there is a village inside it, and you can touch the stones. Near by is Silbury Hill, largest man-made hill in Europe....but nobody knows why it was built. Also there is West Kennet Long Barrow, stone age burial chamber...all 3 sites are next to each other and all 3 are free to visit. If you go the right time of year, it isn't unusual to see a crop circle or 2 as well.

The Roman baths in the city of Bath are now a museum and not open for swimming (I believe the water is toxic). There are however modern baths/spas on the same street which still draw water from the same thermal springs

Can vouch for Dartmouth. You can take a steam train from Paignton down to Kingswear (stopping off at Agatha Christie's house, if you like), get a ferry across the Dart to Dartmouth, then get an old paddle-steamer river cruise up and down the lower stretches of the river. You can also eat and drink in the same tavern that Sir Walter Raleigh frequented (The Seven Stars), and get some of the booziest rum & raisin ice-cream you'll ever have in your life. Haven't been to Beer, but my wife and I once visited Branscombe, which is nearby, and that's also very nice.

The isles of Scilly are the nicest looking place in my opinion. White sand beaches, turquoise water and massive palm trees planted in the 18 hundreds.

In the county of Cheshire are towns/villages called Upper and Lower Peover. Another area to look at is Peak District and the town of Buxton. Any place with Chester in the name was near a Roman Fort nearly two thousand years old. Scotland Scotland

Why are all these places named after things? Often because they were literally centres for those things, usually pre-industrial revolution/mass transport. Sometimes it's because they are based on words that are from other languages over the millennia rather than being named recently (recent being in the last 3-500 hundred years in language and place terms here). Other times its that the things are named after the place (e.g. cheddar cheese) but are now so ubiquitous that people have forgotten which way round it is.

The flatest part of the uk is East Anglia. It is a major farming area because of its geography. Dotted with lovely small towns and villages. Windmills around "the Wash", the Sandy beaches around the coast and great boating on the Norfolk Broads. It also has it's share of Castles, Country Mansions and Medieval and Tudor buildings. A number of the place names will be familiar to residents of New England in the USA. As many of the "Pilgrim Fathers" and early settlers came from this region and named their new places accordingly 😉

The cotswolds is very popular but tne area is just full of cute picturesque villages, a lot of thatched cottages, very quaint, beautiful place but best to go out of season. Edinburgh nice but very expensive. Scottish highlands quite remote, mainly for walkers and people wanting to climb Ben Nevis. You can coss over to Skye

Each country that makes up the UK has extremely beautiful areas Wales is particularly well blessed. Coastal Villages (aka Fishing Villages) in Devon and Cornwall are so nice and steeped in history and legend. Some places are very quirky like the whole of the Isle of Wight and Portmeirion in Gwynedd north Wales (used in many tv and film productions most famously the cult tv series of the 1960s The Prisoner).

1/2 of my Family, are from South Wales, around the Brecon / Talgarth area, and right there, you have the Brecon Beacons, fantastic views etc. Closer to home (I'm next door to East Midlands Airport), saw Derbyshire Peak District mentioned, which is massive, well known for it's views, walks, country houses (Chatsworth House especially, also got Thornbridge Hall), and motorbikes on the A57 Snake Pass route (You need some pretty good riding skills for this route). Peak District, I tend to go around the Lower Peaks area of Matlock Bath (Most bikers meet here first), or High Peak at Edale, the start of the massive Pennine Way path, Although I tend to go more for the much shorter Kinder Scout walk. Most of this in the Derbyshire Peaks, is accessible via public transport too (Bus / rail), and with a single all day Derbyshire Wayfairer Ticket. Also plenty of local accommodation, from your basic YMCA places, B&B's (Probs best choice), to full hotels.

Barafundle Bay is my favourite beach ever. It isn’t easy to get to as some of the more popular beaches because the nearest car park is 15/20 mins walk along a coastal path. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking.

Also beautiful is the Scottish County of 'Scottish Borders', it is a large part of the SOuthern highlands and is very much underrated. It is very rural and has some lovely town such as it's capital Kelso and also Jedburgh, as well as other lovel;y towns. I was luck enough to work In Kelso for a whileand it sits on a large river the river Tweed, it has mountains, valleys and lakes a lovely place in the South East of Scotlend, bordering Northern England.
