Have to appreciate these open mat videos that it’s about getting a good position and then putting on the sub slowly. One reason I like rolling with higher belts as most don’t have the need to slam subs on even if I’m getting smashed as a white belt.
@TylerSpangler
@TylerSpangler Жыл бұрын
Oh I 100% agree. I can’t stand people slamming subs. I actually had my ankle popped by another black belt a few weeks ago in .5 seconds. So infuriating. The hard flowing is definitely the way to roll

@speedyflash8

not sure what you mean by "slamming subs" but hopefully you're not SLAMMING subs on anyone 😅😅😅, not a good way to train unless you and your partner have agreed that you don't care if you get injured (or you KNOW you can handle it) and you're training for comp or something. and if other people are doing that to you without prior consent, then you shouldn't roll with them. and somebody should warn them not to do that too. i don't mean "don't apply strong pressure eventually" in the sub after giving them some time to tap (slowly apply pressure), but I just mean like, don't RIP joint locks, short chokes (trachea/windpipe chokes), heel hooks, armbars, americaas, kimuras, neck cranks, ankle/knee locks, etc. (i realize most of that stuff ARE joint locks). I think blood chokes you can squeeze a little harder a little faster since it's not a crank and it's not on the windpipe. my philosophy for going hard (if I'm not flowing) (and if both partners agree) is: hard scrambles (trim and buff nails, don't eye poke) (watch for other people on the mat), keep the collar ties not too heavy (meaning don't SLAP them), get a strong immobilization, and then slowlyyyy apply pressure to the sub. but I might have misunderstood. also, I also appreciate this video and the flow/hard flow! I'm with you there! That's a brilliant term, Tyler! Hard Flowing!

I just love that, as somebody who has a disability', it never stopped me and maybe drove me harder. Just because I couldn't do it the way it was meant, didn't mean I wouldn't change it and do the way it suited me. 'Perfect technique'? no. Worked for me? YES. Full contact martial arts are not for the feint of heart, guys making shapes in front of mirrors, fuck off now, rapidly. Nail rake, it's effing awful, making somebody choke on their own vomit, awful. Striking the neck and observing the reaction to further inform the next bad thing you will do, awful. Movies have a lot to apologise for, there is nothing nice about martial arts, they are not honourable, rather the opposite.If I want to kill someone, I will kill them or die trying.
