Doesn’t matter how much I think I know about bass fishing, still a pleasure to listen to Tyler run through a comparison video. He just explains things so well, and it never hurts to be reminded of the basics. And for the record, when the Plopper bite is on, there’s nothing like it.

Just confused why he is calling a buzzbait "essentially" weedless, when it has a giant propeller on wire and picks up 10 times more grass than a treble hook lol.
@TylersReelFishing2 жыл бұрын
It absolutely picks up way less grass than a treble hook. You can work a buzzbait around pads, dock posts, shallow timber, and flats of grass, and knock the bait up against them without hardly ever getting snagged. You cannot say that with a bait like a Plopper
@nvclxud2 жыл бұрын
@@TylersReelFishing anytime I fish around anything like grass and pads, the propeller can’t buzz because it catches grass. I’m not talking snags, I’m talking about how the lure picks up foreign material.

One trick you can do to give you better casting distance with a Buzz bait, is to scale it down to a 1/4 Oz. or 3/8 Oz. and use a smaller blade. Also if you make your own they sell a planer buzz bait body with will help give your bait lift. Then use a Z-Man plastic trailer that has more buoyancy so you can compensate for the loss of lift to keep the bait high with the smaller blade. And don’t forget to add a trailerhook.

A BuzzBait requires a bit of finesse in casting/retrieve, at the end of the cast, your rod tip should be close or below horizontal, then, switching hands (baitcaster only) engaging the reel, while pulling the rod tip to 10 o'clock while reeling to get the bait on plane. It's one motion, ideally, you switch hands and thumb the reel before the bait hits the water so your ready to retrieve. Whew, when I think about it, it's no wonder I'm exhausted after 6+ hours of fishing a BuzzBait. The same is be applied when "waking" a spinnerbait. Who ever said Bass fishing is RELAXING?

@ogbassfishing24282 жыл бұрын
Cause if you are throwing open water for topwater, most guys would rather throw something with a better hookup ratio like something with treble hooks. If you like the frog bite enough to risk more lost fish, more power to you, though. As for me, I would rather fish what lands more fish rather than what I would prefer due to my own preference. Happy fishing!

Ya, sometimes the factor that makes up my mind for me between to different lures/baits, is the price. Right now, I just won't pay over a certain price for one bait and if it's over that price or way over it, I just don't buy it and settle for something else, maybe a different brand or nothing at all. That is how I roll atleast as someone who fishes just for the fun and thrill of it.

Rick Clunn recently talked about how in the early years of fishing buzz baits, he experimented trying to find the best sounds for blade designs and to his surprise, when they actually dove underwater to hear the sound, the stock new buzz baits honestly are very quiet...like almost silent. (He provided footage and underwater audio) It was after learning that where the thought of getting the blade to squeak and later adding clackers to the bait became the norm. So I don't know if I would say the buzz bait is louder than the whopper plopped necessarily, but a good video nonetheless.

I rarely throw a Plopper and I don't have one rigged on a rod at any given time, but I have a rod rigged with a BuzzBait 98% of the time. The time I caught a bass on a Plopper, it was 11" long (hardly a Whopper) but a BuzzBait(capital letters intentional) seems to consistently catch bigger bass. I practice the Bill Dance method of running a BuzzBait just fast enough to keep it on the surface and it seems to work out very well. When Bill Dance talks, I listen.

I have to comment on switching hands after the cast, i see it a lot, but why? It is way easier to cast one sided, like your right hand on the reel and left on the but of the rod and after the cast left hand starts to turn the reel handle or other way a round not some odd mix where one changes the rod from one hand to other hand.
@TylersReelFishing2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, if you can learn how to cast where you do not have to switch, that is ideal. Most of the time though, people are strongest on their right arm, which makes a right sided cast best. This also coincides with the fact that most baitcasting reels are right-handed retrieve. So you have to switch hands at some point during the cast or just after the lure hits the water. I have learned to cast multiple different ways, but for long bomb casts, I have no problem switching mid air
@juhavuorinen63052 жыл бұрын
@@TylersReelFishing I did learn to cast right handed and reel in right handed but that was Swedish abu ambassador 6500c back in 1989 or some crazy old time, then i used spinning reels for a long time and maybe 2001 got my first left handed bait caster and liked it, so from there on it's been right handed cast and left handed reel ;)

I happen top be a nationally ranked competition shooter and wise spend a lot of time working on eliminating unnecessary movement while executing shooting techniques. I currently have a sub 1 sec draw to a 7 yard target that would be impossible without eliminating unnecessary movement. Let me ask you a question … when you use a spinning reel do you use a RH retrieve reel? No, you use a LH retrieve. This should go double for baitcasting. It simply makes no sense. Go look at a video JT Kenny did a while back about this. I’ve been using LH reels for 40 years but JT said he also doesn’t understand why people do this. He certainly uses LH reels. Also we do a LOT of punching down here in Florida and I cant tell you the number of times Ive watched people in my boat miss a fish because the were busy switching hands & got bit on the fall.
