I know most people already know this, but these all in one packs are always a rip-off full of bargain bin rubbish they got on the cheap, which would get you killed if you actually relied on it. There's probably $150 most of value there. That's being generous and glossing over the fact you would have more of the consumables if you bought it yourself. I wouldn't use that stuff for camping, let alone rely on it in a survival situation. The knives and electronics are cheap and non-branded landfill that will break before they do anything useful. They have nowhere near enough of the consumable items (eg you can buy 200 water purification tablets for around $5). You have enough to keep you going for a couple of days at best, and you'll run out of things like the tape before you've done anything useful with it. It's basically an inefficient day pack. And nothing has even half decent waterproofing, meaning one downpour and half your kit is going to be ruined. They are downright dangerous and shouldn't be allowed to advertise as life-saving equipment. If you want one of these kits just make one yourself, then you can spend the money you're saving off the cheap crap on getting better equipment.

"Why does it come with a charging cord if it is emergency crank?" 1 definite reason is so you can pre-charge it without having to crank it. Another possible reason is so you can use it as a crank generator to charge your phone.
@koga924
@koga924 25 күн бұрын
It does trickle charge your phone, maybe 2 or 3 watts. they're 5-10 bucks on Aliexpress, and they have bigger ones that can output maybe 15w for $30. They're pretty neat, but solar panels got them beat all day (except in winter) in price and performance.
@teslacoiler
@teslacoiler 23 күн бұрын
@@koga924 not 1005 true because the phone doesn't like a variable voltage. To do the trick properly the crank generator charges the battery inside of the radio, than the internal battery is used to provide power to the external devices through a constant voltage converter (i.e. a power bank that can be recharged with a crank). a big flexible solar panel is usually better for normal uses (camping or at the beach, where you can plan before) but is not good for emergency kits unless supplemented with something else (you don't plan an emergency but it happens suddenly, you may require power in the middle of the night).... ... also, the hand cranked generator is also a radio (may be useful if natural or man-made disaster occurs) a backup flashlight (also useful in the dark) and can be recharged with sun (but only if very brief operation time is required, because this panel can't do much)

A high quality 72 hour bag is something people should have in their trucks if they drive in areas that are seclusive as it could absolutely save your life if the right set of events happen. I used to have a 1.5 hour drive to and from work I Maine and 50 miles of that drive you might not see another car. I carried a survival bag that I put together that would sustain me in every way I needed for 3 days. Bark river knife and a cold steel SRK in 3v, a silky saw and a hatchet and a ham radio with extra battery and a foldable 100w solar panel. Food, water and water tablets and a filter straw and bag plus gear for making a shelter and staying dry and warm and of course 2 fire making solutions and a tin of fat wood. Basically I could have been out on a - 40 night and be able to survive for 3 days if anything was to happen. Knowing that at worst case I could realistically be out there for a night before I would be helped but had plenty of reserve to make it longer should it be needed. This here looks like more of a kit that's for camping and is low quality across the board. My survival kit was setup extremely well and with proper high quality gear. I live in a highly populated area now in south GA so no need for gear like that realistically but I still keep a survival bag in the trunk given it's not nearly as large but definitely capable of getting me thru a freezing night should something bad happen and I'm stuck.

Here's what's in my kit: - One 1.25lb hatchet - One hunting knife, properly sharpened - One proper sleeping bag - One emergency sleeping bag - One small, cheap hanging tent - One inflatable pad (for sleeping bag to go on top of so you're not losing heat to the ground - at the lower price points a cheap inflatable thing will be warmer and have more durability than a paper-thin cheapo sleeping pad) - Non-ratcheting interchangeable screwdriver (ratcheting - more weight + additional point of failure) - A bunch of zip ties, two different lengths, one for temporarily securing things and one to build with - One large roll of proper duct tape (the high quality insulating kind used for ductwork that will be exposed indirectly to the elements) - One emergency blanket (good for added warmth or to patch a shelter during a storm) - One emergency sleeping bag (good as a makeshift bag liner if you're dirty) - One lifestraw - One camping kettle - One large plastic camping thermos - One rechargeable lighter - One metal grill - Three cedar planks wrapped in plastic to prevent splinters from getting all over my gear (cedar planks are a great way to add some rigidity to a large 70+ liter hiking bag without adding a lot of weight) - One bic lighter (easier to make sparks with that than a flint and steel, useful even once it runs out) - Two portable solar panels, one 10W and one 80W - Ruggedized emergency radio with flashlight, spotlight, solar panel, and hand crank (also acts as battery bank) - External battery for charging things - Two chargers for each type of connector I need - A small roll of copper wire, small roll of solder, and a butane soldering iron - 16 eye-screws that can be used to secure things with rope - First-aid kit - A solid supply of over-the-counter medications for really any issue I could have - A small bottle of everclear - A plastic baggie of baking soda (good for hygiene, also a fire space/weight-efficient extinguisher) - A large plastic baggie of salt (you need salt to survive and if you're living off small animals and berries you won't be getting enough) - A year worth of one-a-day multivitamins - A proper raincoat - Waterproof gaiters - A small metal fitting that you can use to easily make a pothanger out of branches for a cooking fire (good for the kettle if I can't find a log I can use to make a swiss candle and the ground is too hard to make a fire pit) - Two grill-gloves - A pair of tongs - A small sewing kit - An emergency two-way radio with 3-5 mile range, capable of listening to emergency frequencies - A set of quick-drying lightweight towels - A can-opener - About 3000 calories of canned food that doesn't need heating - About 3000 calories of food I can eat on-the-go - About 15,000 calories of space/weight-efficient dry food I can cook with water - A 2L bottle of pepsi - Two cans of soda - About 100 days of caffeine pills - The most versatile sharpening stone I could find - 100ft of 120lb-rated paracord - Four large refillable bags for carrying water - A small metal file - A light pair of pliers - Some packages of multi-purpose seasoning I made - Homemade hemostatic powder - 1 roll of toilet paper - Sunglasses (tucked into the roll of toilet paper to avoid breaking) - Two small flashlights (one that clips and can be pointed, one handheld flashlight with spiked bezel) - Slingshot will a few ball bearings and a few clay pie weights - One pocket chainsaw (mine looks more like an actual chainsaw blade, but same idea) - One proper all-metal trench shovel - One waterproof balaclava - One pair of climbing gloves - Roll of 20 trash bags - 16oz container of honey - Pencil, pen, and a small notepad I have a core kit of critical items in a small tactical chest bag, a lot of the bulkier things in a large hiking bag that goes on my back, and in a handheld pack, some things I expect to use up in the first day along with anything I don't mind leaving behind if I need to move quickly. So, effectively, I have everything I could possibly need and it's organized into 3 tiers of importance so that if I need to drop some weight to move faster, I'm not wasting time picking through my gear or dropping anything I'll miss too much. Anything I have attached to the outside is attached with metal carabiners with those twirly things you can use to lock them shut. The first-aid kit is in it's own waterproof container, carabinered to the outside of my chest bag along with the knife and a soft waterproof bag with the toilet paper and sunglasses. I also have a few extra bags prepared for specific scenarios to carry in my other hand. One with a gas mask and filters, a disposable hazmat suit, and geiger counter. The other contains things I can't describe on KZbin, for the kinds of emergency situations I can't describe on KZbin.

That "little hatchet" that Tyler kept complaining about can actually be used as a hatchet in a survival situation. For one, you need to make a makeshift hammer with some wood to whack the top of the hatchet to split wood. For what it's worth, that hatchet would be better than having nothing in a sticky situation. Tyler is not stupid, he just needs to see things from a different perspective.

Shovel for cat holes, Dakota Fire, etc. , that striker you have is a block of magnesium that you shave off and light, you can make small batches of food in the kits pot, throw in some spice, Tabasco, and a few bullion cubes in the kit. Instant coco or coffee too. use the cleaver to baton reasonable size wood for your small stove, making tent stakes, carving trap triggers, and making feather sticks. you can make a bow saw with the wire saw. the tent is like a tube because its an emergency tube tent. This was difficult to watch. I didn't know weather to laugh or pray for your survival. At least you tried. 👍

That water filter looks like a knock off “life straw”. Original is meant to be stuck directly in a stream, lake, or river, not attached to a bottle. It looks to me like the copy company decided to add threads in a half-hearted barely thought out move to make it seem more useful but like you said, thread hunting is not a good plan for a survival situation. It should still work fine as intended by directly sticking it in a body of fresh water though. (Not meant for salt water). Assuming it actually filters properly at all of course.

with the fire starter tool you need to shave off the silver magnesium metal, then ignite it with the ferrocerium rod. The metal shavings are highly flammable and turn white hot when ignited.

Eh, buying all that stuff piecemeal would be about the same, plus a decent backpack (assuming this is one) will run around $100-$200 alone. You'd end up with better stuff picking and choosing but that takes a bit of effort. This pack is more for people who will never use it.

34:11 That hatchet is not intended for such large pieces of firewood; it is intended for smaller pieces of wood. Do you expect that in a survival situation you have just felled a tree, split it into normal size pieces of firewood, and then have to use that hatchet to chop smaller pieces of wood from them? The hatchet is intended for stick fire such as branches and the like, instead of destroying its knife.

I don’t remember the brand which doesn’t matter anyway because they stopped making it but I bought a seventy two hour kit in a backpack that actually WAS worth the hundred and twenty dollars I spent on it. The contents were decent although I upgraded much of it and added a lot too but the bag itself with the velcro in place organizer cubes is worth somewhere around eighty dollars based on what I would spend if I saw it in the store. The first aid kit is great with a pack that would easily make up for the remaining thirty dollars I spent. It has two of each organizer equipped with food and water, personal care and hygiene and some other category I don’t remember right now. It has an organizer under the main flap which includes 550 chord, a name brand water filter similar to the one in the video, an emergency radio which I upgraded, fire lighting components including storm matches and ferro rod a similar tube tent and several other nice quality items. I added a cheap small tent excluding the cheap stakes and poles because I can quickly make better ones from the environment. More food items and stuff to make the bag take two people well past a week assuming it involves an environment that which contains some basic resources like natural fuel, procurable water and space. It has elements added to allow procurement of food if it’s in the environment. With all of that considered, all I need to survive seventy two hours is a gallon of water and a tarp or contractors trash bag. I would need enough debris, snow or firewood it it gets too cold. But really you won’t die of starvation in three days. A lack of air followed by exposure then a lack of water is the order of deadly conditions. The next thing that will kill you is starvation which will take well over a week. Something people rarely talk about is that sleep is unnecessary in a hazardous environment. If you have to stay awake to feed a fire or freeze, sleeping is the wrong thing to do. If you’re under constant threat of violence and need to be prepared to defend yourself, you shouldn’t sleep. Also you should consider staying awake all night and sleeping in the daytime unless it’s a perfect temperature all the time.

Soda bottles use 'standard' threads. Water bottles use all kinds of strange non-standard designs depending on the brand/bottler. It'd be insanity to design anything to work with water bottles.

@@knurlgnar24 thank you for confirming there are other types of bottles other than the most common, you even helped by referring to the most common kind as "standard". hikers etc are used to bringing standard sized nozzle bottles, such as smart water bottles, due to this very reason. it's not weird. no one going out in the wild brings tiny little bottles with tiny little nozzles.

That fire starting block is mostly magnesium. It's supposed to help get things going by scraping magnesium off into a pile, then spark that pile with the ferrocerium rod on the side. I had one before and the ferro rod is a bit too small. As for the matter of how to strike the rod, it is better to pull the rod away to avoid hitting the tender. Need some practice though. I mean striking down the rod takes practice to be good at not hitting the tender. I feel they should have given a bigger ferro rod and skip the magnesium if they gave the waxed cotton pieces anyway.

I couldn't see the end of that water filter tube, so not sure about threads to screw on bottle or whatever. When you first took it out I thought it was just the same thing as the basic LifeStraw, which you just put in water of stream or something like that and drink the water through it like a straw. I do own the old standard LifeStraw myself.
