The weight would seem to enhance the strike, but I think you sacrifice speed. I think velocity is what causes the most damage. The smaller diameter cable, if it were longer would create greater velocity which would increase the impact force more than the increased weight. A full whip gains its most force when it travels greater then the speed of sound. Great experiment, I wish we could check the velocity, and measure the impact pressure ,could help you design something even better then available!! Damn I love the science of crap men think is cool

These tactical whips are designed as a deterent type weapon. The idea isn't to break skin or penetrate a body, but rather to deliver a mean sting that would convince an attacker to drop their weapon or run. The pain from getting whipped with one of these is worse than a hornet sting, but does less deep tissue damage than a baton or tonfa. It's a non-lethal tool for dealing with aggressors like pepper spray is, only it is way more safe for the user to employ. You can make distance between you and an attacker with a good swat, especially if they are empty handed or brandishing a knife. If they can't get close, they can't hurt you. The glass breaker and seat belt cutter are just junky add-ons as they're ubiquitous with all "tactical" gear. They don't work, even on more expensive tools.

I actually have both whips, and to be honest, I much prefer the smaller one. Because it's lighter it swings faster, and although the resultant impact force is probably similar from both, the smaller one (also being thinner) has a higher risk of damage from causing cuts - ideal for self defense. It's also easier to conceal. The bigger one is now the backup version collecting dust, sadly. It was just a gimmick.
