We Tried Making Japanese Aesthetic Sandwiches

Hello and welcome to another video!
Today we’re attempting to make some Japanese aesthetic sandwiches! Safiya and I have seen these all over our KZbin homepage in the form of delicious looking thumbnails, and we figured we should try to make some of our own at home. We’ll be making three different sandwiches - 2 sweet and 1 savory: a strawberry & cream, a fruit flower, and an egg sandwich! It’ll be hard for us to go wrong taste-wise, but how GOOD can we get them to look? Can we match those eye catching thumbnails? We'll have to find out!
ps - we did have some technical difficulties with our audio during our second sandwich - it sounds a little tin-y, so if you notice it, it's not just you! sorry about that!

HELLO and welcome to this video! What do you guys think about our ~aesthetic sandwiches~? While the whipped cream sandos were pretty, the egg salad one might have been my favorite - the chives were a complete X-factor (although I still maintain that some celery could have taken the sandwich to the next level). So I think it’s fair to say that, like Saf… I like eggs. PS - we had some technical difficulties with our audio during the second sandwich. It ended up sounding a little tin-y, so if you notice it, it’s not just you! Sorry about that!

​@@aiadeva The direction is because it's the difference between cutting the strawberries down the middle/vertically so you get those halves or only the middle strawberry having this diagonal cut. (On a different account), hope this helps

Without her talking, there’s often steps that will be missed or funny quips that wouldn’t have happened. I wish she had a mic/better mic so I could hear her better, but she 100% is part of every single video and should be included. tip for peeling kiwis, use a spoon next time :) put the spoon in between the skin and flesh and then just spin the spoon until you've made it all the way around the kiwi

I’ve never made egg salad with milk and sugar. I use mayo, a dollop of mustard, salt and pepper. It’s always amazing. Powdered mustard is even better.

In defence of Tyler's juice wings, back at my primary school kids used to think you could change the flavour of the milk by pressing different colours on the carton's illustrations. If you touched a brown part of the carton then it would turn the milk chocolate. If you touched a pink or red part of the illustration it would turn it strawberry. You know, I think placebo really convinced us kids back then that it was actually working.

If you're making these again, here's a tip for peeling your kiwi that will let you keep more of the fruit before slicing. Cut the top off the kiwi, then get a teaspoon. Run the teaspoon around the top of the kiwi, between where the fruit meets the peel. Then keep moving the spoon down, turning the kiwi until it's all peeled. You can also use this method to more easily peel eggs.

I'm curious if that bread uses the technique "tangzhong?" I don't actually know the definition, but you cook a little water, milk, and flour together, then add it to your bread dough. I've used it to make cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls and they've both been so fluffy and delicious!

Shokupan is just regular bread for toast(, which is generally more fluffy compared to sliced bread in the US). There are less sweet (and thinner sliced) breads than what they used available that might work better for the egg sando 🥚

I was in first grade in 1972. One of the few things I remember about it was the day I couldn't open my milk carton. The teacher opened it for me, but because the edge was all jagged and ruined by then I cried like a baby anyway. I remember feeling very embarrassed in front of my cousin who was also in that class. So, Tyler, you are not alone. Postscript: A week later my mother had me transferred to another school where I never had that problem again because their milk cartons had little holes you could pop your straw through.

The geometry needed for this…mine would’ve been inside out, backwards, and probably upside down. Maybe I misunderstood something, but on the first sandwich, if you put the strawberries in an X pattern, aren’t you going to get the cross cut visual no matter which way you cut it? It’s late but I just don’t think you needed to make a notch or worry? 💕❤️💕

It's the middle strawberry that is the problem. In the proper direction, all three strawberries face the same direction. In the wrong direction, the two strawberries on the ends face the correct direction, but the one the middle faces the opposite.

Same, Tyler. Cartons are terrible to open. I am so happy most have those circle tops on the carton now. Although bad for having more plastic waste. Japan makes the most appealing food. Visual, texture, scent. I love watching Japanese variety shows that talk about famous food from different locations. You can practically taste in through the screen. I watched so much tv in Japan even when my Japanese skills weren’t good enough to understand much.
