I like idea of tool box that can double as a work bench or a cooking table or even fab a top to make a (patio) deck; and if mounted on a receiver hitch, you could even remove the whole thing for entry into national parks and area where overall length is a consideration.

But he does have to give up an EXIT door to have that garage. That is not cool to me. But at least he is an original.

Great van tour, thank you! This was a great find! 7:06 - it would have been very helpful at this point to focus the camera on what was below the table rather than remain fixed on him. Ditto for other moments. Always let the camera roam to what he is talking about, not stay fixed on him. Then the video becomes more interesting. Tyll's sandwich walls and heat draw system are genius! Very clever Tyll! I wonder if it would help even more to make holes below the van and draw cool air from under the van (always shaded) into the walls and van interior? I saw an engineer do this (Dave Orton) with his tiny Ford Transit conversion. He made a plug on the floor of the interior living space that could be pulled up to create a hole to suck in air from under the van. He said, its always the coolest air since is it always the shaded area. Smart concept! With regard to heater, you may want to check out the cheap $200 Chinese diesel heaters that are similar to Espar, Webasto, and Truma. They come with their own flat small diesel tanks and are very efficient in low diesel use, have NO condensation, easy to refill at any gas station, and no danger of explosion like propane. Propane has condensation, explosion, and you need to find costly refill stations. What a great van build, so interesting. Please make a separate one to explain the insulation, and how it works in more detail. This deserves some exploring. Concept is easy to understand but easier to implement if we see details. Thanks again, well done!

Man, youtube and the internet are an amazing thing. A couple of hours ago I was doing some research on looking at getting some good quality headphones and found Tyll's review on some I'm interested in. I liked his laid back and intelligent demeanor and checked out some of his other vids. Then was shocked to discover he'd retired! Seem's like a pretty tough job to retire from so I totally understand! (I'm just being a smartass as I'm sure he had a day job too). Anyway, discovered Putts and his blog through this video. Sounds like he's had a varied and interesting life from serving to electrical engineering, audio engineering, CAD and goodness knows what else. Just skimmed the vlog so far so looking forward to an interesting read. He hasn't been on there in awhile so hope he's ok and is living the dream. Thanks for sharing

You’re mirroring my future plans down to your pooch “ Dark” & electric bike, my plan is to sell my house, buy a UPS/step-van modify & stock it to my style & needs & live full time. My plan is to live in New Mexico/Arizona area, living in the 7000/9000’ level in summer & the desert in winter, all you need is a few roof fans. I’ve found that a minimalist life-style is better for me bc the more “stuff you have, you don’t own it, it owns you” in repair , time & money. Good build , good tour! Shalom!

I just need to insulate my front wall for really extreme temperatures, You are correct...insulating is the biggest project involved with step van. The only more difficult insulation project is a skoolie. Don't ask me how I know!
