I remember these when they were sold at Walmart back in the 1990’s, now they’re selling ONN cassettes which is now sold under the Walmart name. I used one of the “Type 0” for recording Old Time Radio shows like “The Shadow”, “The Lone Ranger”, “The Green Hornet”, and more, and I keep them for collector’s purposes. I don’t break any of the “Type 0” tapes, I used them for fun.

I still have more of these cassettes, and I don't plan on destroying them. Just this one in particular was so bad in condition that I decided to have fun with it hahah

I have 3 tapes that are as bad as this, 2 of the are intersound (I believe) and the other one was audiostar (I think) pretty much the same thing, the sound is clipping, the tape is in perfect condition, but it's just built so cheaply. Edit: intersound i have mistaken, it was noblestar, although I have one intersound as well, also cheap, just not as bad.

I tried out a pre recorded Bruce Springseen tape from 1992 the other day and it had dropouts all the way through. When I took it out I realised the pressure pad had disintegrated onto the head and pinch roller, so I had to use a cleaning tape on my boombox. That tape later got put in the bin.
@Thanson1994152 жыл бұрын

This is the reason why I collect bias zero tapes! For experimenting! Works every time for special-effects! I called this, audio virtual roller coaster! Try recording over what happened. It’s even cooler! EDIT: You already did that! Just watch the video. I didn’t even comment on the video for a while. I just watched it. And yeah! Impressive! I have been making experimental tape experiment recordings sense 2008 or so. But, I have been doing tape experiments since literally 2004 just for fun!

I thought I knew about most cassette tapes, having been a recording enthusiast since the early sixties. I still have two cassette recorders, a Nakamichi Dragon and a Nakamichi 582, but I only use the Dragon these days. Anyway, I have never heard of a Type 0 cassette tape. I remember I mostly used TDK SA, Memorex, That's, Sony, BASF. I still have a couple of "That's MRXP' still sealed in cellophane.
@Thanson199415 Жыл бұрын
Honestly the Type 0 doesn’t technically exist, but there are cassettes which are manufactured poorly and the formulation process of the magnetic tape produces lack luster audio reproduction to the point where the cassettes get “called” a Type 0. For example, I actually have a Maxell Type 4 metal cassette that is metaphorically called a Type 0. Usually what you record onto Type 4 cassettes practically get mirrored right back towards you because of there excellent sound quality but because unfortunately this Maxell cassette that I own was stored in a very humid environment, the tape itself had a small amount of white mold but even that was all it took and the audio drops out and is very choppy on the high frequencies.

@@Thanson199415 type 0 = "zero quality" 😶 Right?
@Thanson1994153 жыл бұрын
@@zsombor_99 Yep, type 0 is slang for “bottom of the barrel” “complete trash”. Type 0’s are not actually manufactured only Type 1, Type 2, and Type 4. But when there are companies who produce very poor quality Type 1 cassettes, Type 0 term is used on those specific cassettes.
