08:27 This is an amazing photo showing the Luda DDG and Soviet cruiser in an encounter in close proximity on the high seas before the 2 countries normalized relations. Presumably the photo was taken by a Soviet naval Kamov helicopter as China didn't have ship borne helicopters in that era.

The 40 year service history of this class, it's evolution, the upgrade of these destroyers, and the comparison of the type 052 class destroyers to their modern namesakes show the evolution and growth of the Chinese Navy from a brown water fleet to a modern fighting force. When I first learned about the specs of this class reading Janes 25 years ago, this class seemed quaint. In retrospect, it was anything but quaint.

i think these ships are very nice little ships, packet to the brim with weapons, however i feel there bit like a bulldog in terms of appearance due to the forward superstructure. However they do seem to have a High RCS for the latter part of there career.

Oh wow. That officer commanding on hull 2 (160) was a real dirtbag wasn't he. Take yourself out sure but don't sink your entire bloody ship and kill most of the crew! And how we're the warning signs not spotted? There must have been some signs...
