Check it out... From 2014-2022 (8 years time), 8 Type 055 14,000 ton mega-destroyers have already been built (3 commissioned, 5 in sea trials), another batch of 8 under construction. The first Type 055 started construction in 2014 (No, that's not a typo. EIGHT YEARS ago) and now ........pause . ....Along with the 8 new massive multi-dimensional stealth capital warships being commissioned to the Chinese Navy also includes but not limited to China's 2nd aircraft carrier the 75,000 ton Type-002 Shandong which was also launched/commissioned into active duty within the same time frame, along with 2 more 7,500 ton Type 052C destroyers (predecessor of the Type 052D), twenty two (yes....22) 8,500 ton Type 052D destroyers (already one of the most capable modern warships capable of hot/cold launches--unlike the other modern systems that can only do hot or cold), seventeen (17) 4000 tons Type-54A frigates, seventy one (71) 1,500 ton Type 056 corvettes, three 45,000 ton Type-075 LHD ("mini assault carriers"), 5 Type-071 25,000 ton LPD (landing platform dock or amphibious platform dock), eight (8) 7000 ton Type 815A/G "intel gathering/long-range signal & reconnaissance surveillance/monitoring "ships", two 11,000 ton Type-94A Jin-class SSBN (able to launch ballistic nuclear tipped missiles anywhere in the world), the Type 094-class sub has 12 silos on its back, with each JL-2 missile carrying up to 8 MIRVS (Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles, independently hitting their specific targets) and three (3) 7000 ton Type 093 Shang-class SSN (nuclear power attacked sub) being commissioned into the Chinese Navy (PLAN) all in 8 years...and from recent satellite imagery of Chinese military shipping docks (just outside, not inside those humongous ship building factories), there doesn't seem to be any slow down. But the real baddies under construction/being fitted out are the new 20,000 ton Tang-class SSBN, with 24 silos on its back, with the new JL-3's being able to fire SLBM (submarine launched ballistic missiles), cruise missiles, anti-ship/air/satellite missiles) and each warhead carrying 10-12 MIRV, the 85,000-100,000 ton Type 003, China's first flattop carrier with EMALS. The 4th, or starting from the 5th, Chinese carriers would be the orcas of the oceans, 130,000-150,000 tons, AI assisted/operated, highly advanced and sophisticated and can carry 120+ aircrafts. These baddies are going to come online by 2030. That's a mere 8 more years away....

The fact that china is building vessels like the type 055 that are 3-4000 tons heavier than the type 45 (the largest Uk surface combatant) and yet are building so many suggests the west really needs to up it's game. Literally no other country than the US, Korea and Japan has survivable vessels in the south china sea and therefore have nothing to offer in the next likely future conflict. The type 45 would get overwhelmed, the type 23 would run out of torpedos for it's helicopters and then get sunk before it got chance to use it's deck torpedos as it has no vl missile launched torpedo and the pitiful air group has no heavyweight torpedo, and not all the frigates even have 8 nsms

Medium range air defense missiles like the HHQ9 will take care of the threats, CIWS is really just a backup in case some error occurs in the missile interception process.
