Modern Indian destroyers are basically screwdriver giri done by indian shipyards. The hull is made in India, but main components like engine, gun, missiles are imported. That's why they couldn't design vizag class with enough number of vls cells. Type 55 may not be the best in the world (zumwalt class is the best), but it's better than any Indian destroyer by a large margin. The only positive thing we have is the supersonic brahmos missile.

China can afford to build such capabilities in less duration as they rank second in the spending very high on research and development. For next 15 years they would keep on growing in all sphere be it economy, military or international diplomacy. Their's unprecedented economic growth has facilitated growth in other domains of life. Unlike US that always only seeks to sign mega defence deals with its marginal partners, china helps it's allies in different spheres. Had there been no land dispute with China of India, Indian and Chinese partnership would have been historic. Both countries have exceptional opportunities and potential. China is a superpower that intends to establish it's dominance across the globe. While India is major power that seeks to realise its potential in economic sphere. I have always been emphasizing on the fact that India needs to invest most in its Navy then air force and then Army ( more investment in artillery, SAMs, Air wing etc rather than man power). The govt should take special interest in Navy and must concentrate on number of vessels. We need around 30-40 submarines. Around 25 destroyers, 30-40 frigates , numerous missile boats and corvettes. 3-4 conventional aircraft carriers and artificial islands inside our waters and a few helicopter carriers with some Vtol aircraft. I know the wishlist sounds naive considering our budget and economy but they need not be implemented right away rather by 2040 to say the least and that is the time around which world will seriously start running out of resources and China will be powerful enough to become really aggressive and we must be prepared for it. Alliances are temporary and fragile and self reliance is the only way forward..we cannot and should not be dependent on an international body for our safeguard...we all saw how easily WHO got sold off... everyone else will too.

@@Cctvmms It is high altitude and supersonic before reaching 50km range from target. Can't deny Brahmos is a decent AShM, but it is not invincible. Its cone intake infront of the missile limited the number of radar modules it can put into. It will have to rely on planes like P-8C, or Su-30 MKI for guiding. Modern warfare is not determined by just one weapon. It is a battle of whole system.

Well the defenses were designed to intercept supersonic AShM salvo attacks and it will probably be armed with DEW once they become available. So a really large salvo will be needed to take it out. BrahMos may be good, but it is not a magical weapon. It can be intercepted like any other missile.

Type 55 destroyer is the best destroyer in the world. The truth is chinese navy is the strongest navy in the world. Forget about type 55, if China sends 10 out of 25 type 52d along with 10 out of 30 frigates in Indian ocean, China will have no trouble capturing Andaman and nicobar Island and maintain superiority their. 3 kolkata class destroyers and a few frigates resistance will be over in a day. And about US, china will keep their pacific fleet busy in pacific itself, type 55 is there to hold few old ticonderoga and arleigh burke. Yes, it seems like an impossible task to defend China. That is 100 percent true. At least in sea for now.

Both of the country comes up with same result which is railguns is not worthy for development. Huge momentum from railguns can deform canons, but with special materials for canon it will cost too much with limited improvement. In one word: the project is cut off.

Reloading 20+ missiles with a big crane on a "small" and unstable deck isnt easy. Many countries tried it and abandonned this idea. Probably easier and safer to reload at port, plus you dont have to stock those extra ammunition (and unavailable) somewhere inside your boat.

It's cheaper to import su-30 from Russia than buying it from HAL. They're importing everything (even nut bolts) from Russia and assembling here. Btw tejas is more indigenous and cheaper than su-30.

Zumwalt is already canceled. The US thought its future enemy will not have enough Navy power to compete with its Navy, so it developed Zumwalt class for close shore attack with 155mm gun as main weapon. However, it is overpriced and underpower with very limited VLS cells. It is impossible for such ship to be mass produced against PLAN. Can't say Zumwalt class is a bad ship but its apporach is wrong compare to type 055 with is an ultimate upgrade from type 052D. Type 055 as a platform still has lots of potential, while Zumwalt class doesn't.
