Hopefully this doesn’t come off as too random or offensive. I just left the gym and was wondering if any other girl experiences this…. I’m 5’9 and around 130lbs. I get noticed and attention from men and women at the gym, all ages. Great. But for some reason I noticed only black men will be the ones to continue staring even after I make eye contact with them and make a confused/uninviting face. Other guys look and look away. It seems like black men get a kick out of invading my sense of personal space. It literally makes me stop the workout I’m doing sometimes and find something else. Sometimes I want to leave the gym. They look with a sense of desperation and lust I haven’t seen any other race do. Even though I know other races (at least white and latino) find me very attractive. White guys have literally just came up to me and told me I’m beautiful and Latino guys have literally done Hail Mary gestures after looking at me (eventually I notice they’re there with girlfriends), I figure they’re trying to avoid lustful thoughts. Sometimes they’ll come up to me and say God bless you. This is honestly traumatizing. It’s like they’re possessed. It’s not ALL black men but it’s ONLY black men. The only other time I’ll get looked at with that intensity is with crackheads and crazy people on the street. I live in NYC. I just don’t get it and wonder if this has something to do with people over sexualizing black people.
