My best friend is schizophrenic. His dad has it and so does his brother. One time he was telling me a story that on a long road trip home from college one weekend he managed to convince himself that he had ran somebody over but forgot and spent the whole night driving and looking for a body. Apparently darkness and driving were bad triggers for him because they really put yourself inside of your own head.

Very nice and pretty accurate simulation. However, at the end, when the caregiver comes in (wife, family member, whatever, obviously still a caregiver), all his symptoms seem to subside, and he seems to trust her. But in a patient having a psychotic episode or break, especially with paranoid delusions, his symptoms wouldn't go away upon seeing a caregiver, someone meaning him well. The voices would tell him that she's part of the plot, that she's "in on it", that she can't be trusted. They'd say, " SHE ordered the pizza! She's trying to poison you!" etc.

Don't be misled, everybody. Not all schizophrenia is this severe. Some schizophrenia is very mild and only requires medication, if any at all. Please don't discriminate schizophrenics because of things you see on TV or in movies. Reality is just as surprising as you may not think.

In clinical psych, a “mild” case is impossible cause the severity is too low to mess with functionality. People with mild schizophrenic symptoms can never be said to be suffering from schizophrenia. The case shown is in between mild and severe. The hallucinations in this video aren’t that prevalent. Some people hallucinate whole lovers, it depends on the case.

@@odinharou7112 Yeah dude it's weird cause it sounds so real most the time. Like it's not like demons and stuff it's hearing actual people but it sounds like it's coming from the other room so you think it's real. My girl would be in the other room with her brother and it would just sound like muffled chatter as if they were really talking so it messes with your head rather than just hearing creepy stuff that's obviously fake. And I would be at my house and hear the kind of noises from her house like she has birds that make a specific sounding whistle that you always hear in the morning so I'd wake up hearing that in the morning and be confused for a second thinking I was still at her house. It gets annoying too hearing stuff when you're trying to just zone out in a movie or video game.

Mizuiro Sora I don't have Shiz. Glad to disappoint you. Also, hearing voices are NO LONGER just linked to Schiz. They are the underlining results of despair, deep sorrow, disappointment, and major forms of trauma. You should educate yourself before speaking. Also, there is a such thing as spiritual gifts from God which allows you to see demons and spirits and angels and all sorts of celestial as well as demonic things. I know you wish you could see Satan while he's in the mist of destroying you, so you can have the upper hand and beat him at his game. Also, witchcraft and voodoo is a result of hearing voices as well. Being able to detect those too are great. Many reasons to hearing voices. Don't be so quick to assume things. Educate yourself some before speaking judgments without facts to help you judge properly.

My mom is schizophrenic and most of what she does is cussing out strangers and telling them their future, a lot of the time starts hysterically laughing out of nowhere, opening the window and screaming at the voices in the cars speaking to her, lying in the road because god told her to, running into the train tracks without her clothes on and screaming at bicyclists, all kinds of stuff. It's excruciatingly hard for the family to live with as I can't explain the half of it, but I never actually realized how much schizophrenics must already be going through when they have to suffer this kind of a daily life, and on top of that all of the discrimination and trash they get. Thanks for this video, kind of gave me a better idea of things.

discuss or disgust? it's a joke to people because they have no idea how someone could be afraid of their own mind I think it's where schizophrenia people aren't really happy to be alive like some people. It's a state of taking many things for granted then the mind finding ways to invent bullshit then it run out-of-control. When people are happy to be alive there is no way they can think like this. The only thing that would hurt them would be anger. Easiest way to not become mental, happiest and cheapest route to maintain, but also the financially poorest usually.

I am diagnosed with OCD and Bipolar 1. I have had psychotic breaks with my illness before. Knowing fully of this, one night I decided to smoke some pot with some of my homies. The night before, I forgot my medication. After a couple hits, I was feeling good. But, after a couple moments, I noticed my friends began to insult me. At first, I figured they were just joking around, so I laughed it off. Almost 30 minutes later, they were continuing to berate and harass me. I became frightened, thinking one of them was about to strike me. I hit him. Next thing I know, I'm being held down, with no idea how it happened, and they were telling me to calm down. I get up, and apologize. But, they continued their bullshit. At this point, I was desperate to get them to stop. Then it struck me. They weren't doing anything to me. I realized I hadn't taken my meds, and it was probably another psychotic break that was occurring. I was able to leave the room, and sleep. When I woke up the next morning, everything was back to normal, although my friends were not too happy with my behavior the night before. What I'm wondering is, if I was able to think through my psychosis, and realize it was in fact MY delusional thinking, are some schizophrenics able to do this as well?

Liam David I've heard voices before, the thing is we have control over our internal monologue, when you hear voices it's like someone's talking to you who isn't there. @Kleo3392

The difference is the intensity of the stimulus. In healthy brains, a function exists to ensure that the brain can always tell the difference between real stimulus (stimulus caused by external sources) and imagined stimulus (stimulus created by our own minds). When we sleep, since there are no significant changes in stimulus from the external world, our brains ignore it all, only subconsciously paying attention to it, this leaves only internally created stimulus, and so it takes over and becomes the person's entire experience. This is called dreaming, and when I say experience, I mean experience. There is absolutely no difference between imagined stimulus and received stimulus. Stimulus is stimulus. The (healthy) brain naturally focuses on real stimulus much more than on imagined stimulus (imagined simply means recalled and recreated by the brain itself), creating the illusion that dreams are inherently unlifelike and simply feel weak, when that's impossible. Daydreams are, since our brains are naturally focusing on the real stimulus more making the imagined stimulus seem weak in comparison, but when you're asleep, there's not of that. You're just inside your own mind. In schizophrenic brains, there is no such function. The brain can't differentiate between externally received stimulus and imagined stimulus, so they're all equally prioritized. In other words, your inner monologue would be as intense as someone actually speaking to you. Let me reiterate; talking to yourself through mental projections within itself is NOT crazy; we all do it every night in dreams, and it's a healthy and essential process, but being unable to distinguish between imagined and real perceptions is. Hope this helped.

It’s different from thoughts. Thoughts you hear in your mind, but the voices or auditory hallucinations you can hear like it’s in the room with you. That’s my experience with my audio hallucinations. Also, you can’t control the sounds like you can with thoughts. My thoughts are in my voice, but one thing I hear sometimes is a dog growling, sniffing, nails walking across the tile. TheAnyKey This has nothing to do with homeopathy. Homeopathy is nonsense in my opinion. It is scientifically proven that schizophrenics are NAD+ deficient, which is made from Vitamin B3. Thus high doses of it are very helpful. The conversion from B3 to NAD+ is enzyme-dependent, but in some people these enzymes are not working properly, due to genetics. High doses make up for these enzyme defects. The omega-3's are important for myelination, another important process known to not be working properly in schizophrenics.Take your closed-mindedness somewhere else please.

My heart breaks for how shallow the world is sometimes. The other day, I overheard a girl say "OMG homeless people are so CREEEEEPYYYYY". A lot of homeless people are schizophrenic and/or have other mental conditions that don't allow them to keep a job/home/"normal" societal life. It's not fucking "creepy", it's an extremely sad, heartbreaking epidemic that needs serious attention. If someone in that girl's family had a serious mental incapacity/disorder, she wouldn't be talking all that shallow, narrow minded bullshit. People need to take a step outside of their own narrow scope of existence and see that others around them are suffering from horrific plights. All it takes is an effort towards love and compassion, rather than giving into the fear of things unknown.

That ending always warms my heart, for real, I feel like someone in the world understands and supports me. The thing with schizophrenia is that all the people who’ve been diagnosed with that were raised in a completely dysfunctional, toxic and betraying families, that rather want to enslave and destroy you rather than love and support, as I was raised in. I haven’t had a schizophrenia, but I was diagnosed with: -anxiety-depressive disorder -mixed type identity disorder -dissociative identity disorder I also had undiagnosed neurosis with mentisms (google it, it’s one of the most mentally painful symptoms in the world, one that all schizophrenics have in the acute phase and without medications) and some kind of psychosis. When I just got from the asylum, my psychopathic mother started to employing me at the job, when I still suffered from my disease (it was painful even more, and my hate was so high, I wanted to knife that bitch right in the hospital, where we were gathering documents for employment). Jeez, even when I write this comment, I feel anxious that my “mother” would read it. Schizophrenia does NOT has endogenic roots, it’s completely social disease, and whether or not an individual will get depends on how toxic and insane his family is and how much his brain can hold of it. I may be wrong, if someone who has a schizophrenia can say that their family was completely normal and never committed violence whether it’s psychological or physical, go ahead and write in the comments

I work at a mental health clinic, and I can assure that sadly mental health is a very real thing. Yes, some people do abuse the system to get the few benefits out there for the folks with mental illness, but the things I have seen, I can tell it is a very real issue. I see clients on meds and then see them off meds and they are completely different people. It is sad to think that a lot of the people that suffer from this illness were at one point the best and the brightest, and this illness strips them of all of it, some times to the point that they are unable to care for themselves much less their children or families. Please educate yourself. It is people like you that make it hard for the mental health field to get the recognition that it deserves and so badly needs.

I have learned many many ways to cope and little rules for my mental diet etc. I have had episodes like this video. it got real bad over a particular summer where i had delusions that i could hear my neighbor's negative thoughts about me. *ha* eventually i straight up faced the voice demon and said.why is it that you need be to believe i am so bad. Don't you know i would have to be perfect to be that horrible. anyway my daily voice....is indeed as if a friend and personification of my own thought process. Katherine Pagan Not to be preachy, but you shouldn't minimize your experience by saying it's "just" depression. People who don't have a clue like to poke fun at depression like it's all just minor sadness and malingering: don't listen to them. Depression can be a very serious problem. There's always somebody out there who has it worse off than you, and somebody who has it better off than you-but you're the one who has to live your own life, so take your own problems seriously and get help if you need it.

I have symptoms of this, I do not have schizophrenia myself but I do get hallucinations and delusions sometimes. This video was really accurate at some parts, like when they kept saying to not open the door. I really didn't like the lady at the end, she seemed really patronizing and dismissive of the person. And the episode ended really abruptly, usually it's the worst when people you trust come and you can't trust them because they're part of it too. Then you feel guilty, but also terrified of people you trust the most.

Schizophrenia is usually much worse than this, my aunt works with people with mental disorders and schizophrenics. Her patients complain about seeing twisted figures that nobody else sees. And the figures tell them to do really really screwed up things. And the figures threaten them if they dont do what they say. And in severe cases the person can do what they say without them even knowing, like for example a voice says to them strangle your sister and the person could unconsiously strangle his or her sister without control. But this is with very severe cases

I do suffer from this but it's never been quite that bad for me, usually the voices come and go, the hallucinations tend to be subtle like the bubble in the coffee not hallucinating entire thunder storms. I think watching tv it's only happened a few times where I was being talked to directly by the people on it. The voices aren't always mean or just comment on what's going on, they sometimes give advice or talk about completely unrelated things the problem is they are distracting.

I take saphris for my skitz and it really silences the voices. I had 3 voices in my head. They just sorta guided me through things. "Open the door. You should probably check on your girlfriend, she seems to been avoiding you lately. I don't know the answer to this problem, you're on your own. You should probably kick that guy's ass (to a school bully). Jesus Christ, what the fuck is wrong with you? Well, you fucked up, accept it. Why do people do so many drugs? There has to be a reason. Coke seems like a good start, you need to find someone, though... You don't need to sleep now, there's something you have to do. I know you're hungry, but don't eat. You look like a fat bastard anyway, cut off the pounds. What are you doing sitting around? Get up." I thought it was just normal thoughts and crap and I had an overreactive imagination. I told my doctor that I usually pretend to hear voices in my head to solve everyday problems. I explained to her what it's like and she labeled me schizophrenic. I honestly thought she was full of shit. I took the meds because she said I'd wind up in the mental hospital if I didn't comply. Well, fuck you too. After a few hours of dissolving the tablet under my tongue (Yes, that's how you take them. They're bitter and make your tastebuds numb). I started doing my daily routine. I was studying my veterinarian textbook when I noticed the clock ticking. I waited, expecting to hear them make a comment on the silence, but I didn't hear anything. I thought Ha ha, Placebo effect. Okay, I'll try to talk to them. I focused hard but I didn't hear anything. It was very strange. It was so silent and it felt weird. So I tried to force myself to hear the voices. Nothing registered at all. Alright, I just WON'T take this medicine and see if they come back. So, the next night I skipped talking the tablet and I just went on doing my daily chores. I didn't even notice they came back when they did, but I realized it later when they pointed it out. I contemplated if I should start talking the tablets again and they told me I should. "No no no no no. Take them. Don't drag yourself to a mental hospital. Do you know how they treat people in there? No. Take them. Don't tell anyone, don't mention it to anyone, they might test your blood. Some people hate skitzos. You've heard about them, right? Just take the pills and move on. I won't go away forever. When you stop taking the tabs I'll come back." So I kept taking my meds from then on. Once and a while, I can feel them talking but I can't understand what they're saying at all. It's the same way for me, except I only have one voice. I have tried several antipsychotic medications, but most did nothing for me, and the ones that helped stopped working after about a week. I have grown accustomed to it, for the most part. When the medication worked and the voice stopped, it was a strange feeling. Even though the negative commentary going on in my head was finally gone, it made me feel "lonely" in a way.

As someone who is schizophrenic, Schizophrenia people should be more noticed, cared for, and just in general people should be aware that this is a SERIOUS mental disorder and don't push it out of their way like: "You're just being a crybaby" or "Get over it" Like seriously?! *SOME* people think that Schizophrenia doesn't really matter because they think it's not that severe. When I was about 6-7-ish, I had this really traumatic incident---since I was smaller than most other kids and my eye colors looked different to the students in my school, I would always get picked on for my small height and different-colored eyes. At first, I didn't mind- but when it happened ALL the time- even during class, I snapped, but I didn't exactly appear mad. I just held in my anger until the rest of that year. When I turned 9, I went to my aunt's house because we had our "last day of summer" party every year over there. Anyways- I was riding my bike with my other cousins when I went to the gate to get inside to get some kool-aid or whatever. But- before I could even go to the front door, their dog, a rottweiler, bit and held onto my thigh. (I'll just tell that much or that's gonna bring up some trauma again) I was in the hospital- just drinking some ginger ale and eating crackers when I was on my vaccum therapy (yes, I had an infection on the bite) when my dog bite was all healed and stuff-- my mom realised that I wasn't really acting like I used to. So- she took me to my doctor to see what's wrong. So, my doctor did a regular exam before she really did anything, asked my mom some questions, took notes, and left the room for a while before she came back. The doctor diagnosed me with severe PTSD and Schizophrenia. That was just a really short story on how I got diagnosed with Schizophrenia. *Schizophrenia awareness :D*

my girlfriend has schizophrenia and she is 12 hrs away from me, We call everyday and she has episodes while we are on call and she will start crying and I let her know that i am here for her and that If she wants to talk about anything that I will listen. she takes medicine but i wish there was more that i could do. The main issue is that the voices make her feel suicidal and she said that I help her, but my parents are not accepting of the relationship. We are not allowed to talk for the moment and I am worried about her.

I have schizophrenia but a mild case of it. Not fun stuff.. I hear chattering In my head consistently and most of the time it tells me false things about myself. with the right meds I'm good to go! But when I forget to take your meds I have delusions and the voice gets louder. When she said "they know about you" it hit right home haha. The best way to describe it is like this. You're driving with your mind but you can always wreck if you're not careful.

this, sorta seemed normal except the visuals. afraid of every person, every creature, every object. All news is bad news, you can't find a way out, you want to argue with your mind but you know that's when people are insane and you don't want to feel crazy. no values, no acceptance, only fear, doubt and guilt. idk if that makes me crazy or if this videos was off but either way, why am I telling you this, who's gonna read this? Have a good day.

Because schizophrenics have incoherent trains of thought. Their thoughts and inner monologue and dialogue don't make any sense.

"Why was that woman shouting "it's the rain, it's the rain"?" She wasn't. She was saying "It's Lorraine! It's Lorraine!" Schizophrenia causes audible hallucinations; that's why he heard static when she was yelling to him. The voices told him that she was saying "it's the rain."

***** First off, learn punctuation. Secondly, at 5:14, she said "I was screaming 'It's Lorraine! It's Lorraine!' into the phone at the top of my lungs." Thirdly, go back to your sandbox, because you're obviously a child.
