There are several types of VSD (ventricular septal defect), which is a common congenital heart defect characterized by an abnormal opening in the septum (the wall) between the heart's lower chambers (ventricles). The types of VSD include:
1. Perimembranous VSD: This is the most common type of VSD, where the defect is located near the membranous part of the septum.
2. Muscular VSD: This type of VSD occurs when the defect is located within the muscular part of the septum.
3. Mal-aligned VSD: This type of VSD is similar to perimembranous VSD.
4. Inlet VSD: This type of VSD occurs near the tricuspid valve, which is located between the right atrium and right ventricle.
5. Subpulmonic VSD: This type of VSD is located near the pulmonary valve, which is responsible for regulating blood flow from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.
