Speed is exactly why some people hate zoners, needing to play according to the other players pace that they want is annoying and you’ll rarely feel like you’re in control. Speed also makes grapples more balanced (most of the time) since if they were speedy like a rush down character, you’d be grabbed endlessly. Speed is both cool and wack
@javianbrown8627 Жыл бұрын
That's fair. I feel like zoners hate some rush down characters just as much though as the fast movement rushdowns have means if you make a single mistake they get close and start their strike throw bullshit. What's weird though is I like both playstyles as I play mostly Karin and Poison in SF5 and in Guilty gear I play Millia and Testement.
@mirzapramudya15802 жыл бұрын
I honestly like both fast paced fighting games like DBFZ and slow paced ones like For Honor (idk if you'd count that as a fighting game, but I do). I always find it amazing when seeing people do flashy combos and strings that last a long while. And I like the latter because slow paced games tend to have higher damage output wich makes the game full of focus and commitment. One wrong move could cost you, and the entire match always makes me sweat trying to predict who is going to get a hit on who
@jerrellh41732 жыл бұрын
I like longer games as opposed to slower. For instance DBFZ is fast paced and big damage, but you’ve got 3 health bars to go through with regenerative health. It makes the game a chess match of reads, adaptation, and strategy which is the fun part for me. I also dislike supers where there’s a cutscene and a bunch of damage taken off. It takes away from the actual “combat” in my opinion.
@GMP1isReal2 жыл бұрын
I don't mind supers because of how well it shows the spectacle of Dragon Ball while being a reference to something iconic, and the big damage of them are usually scaled, so it's not the end-all-be-all if you're hit by one (especially with the ways to regen that life). Another way to think about it is a moment to think (even if you're on the receiving end) in how fast pace the game is, and the cutscenes aren't really that long compared to optimal combos or how you play neutral.
@jerrellh41732 жыл бұрын
@@GMP1isReal that’s true actually I agree it does provide some pacing. I feel like the damage was done right in budokai for example, You had to really earn the damage in your super, and the cutscenes were interactive. It was more fun and more rewarding. How it is in dbfz def isn’t bad, mainly because you have to go through a 3-man team to win. More of a problem in single fighter games imo. Also I just hate the feel of some of them lol. Ss4 Gogeta lvl 1 and janemba’s slicy level 1, nappa’s lvl 1 for example, SSb Gogeta lvl 3 (lvl 5 is sick tho). Whereas I like all of hit’s supers. that might just be personal preference tho. I agree on spectacle and references, spirit Bomb, cell lvl 3, kid buu lvl 3, evil containment wave among others, They’re awesome every time.

Eh the supers actually are one of the main reasons people get into games like fighterz because pulling off cool supers after combos helps give the player a sense of euphoria and satisfaction. Without em everything just feels mechanical

Very good video! That said, I have a slight correction: you mentioned (or implied?) how Strive, as opposed to SF5, wants you to move fast and gets there partly by making a lot of moves plus on block. To my knowledge the vast majority of moves in Strive are actually negative on block, while in SF5 the opposite is true, at least for normals
@PKD1452 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Most moves in strive are minus on block. Most CS buttons are +1 and some moves are frame neutral but generally, a move is likely negative on block in strive (or on hit if you are pot...)
@saxtonnova2 жыл бұрын
6:44 guilty gear does want you to play more aggressively but that's not because a lot of moves are plus: 1) the game has a much much different pace compared to Street Fighter 2) you can block in air as well that makes aproaching from air easier but there is also a universal anti air so you don't really want to jump constantly 3) the game literally punishes you if you play like a turtle(too much defense) you get meter penalty etc. also offense in this game is rewarded with positive bonus etc etc in conclusion: Just take the throw.

@@philosopherkingzant2037 unfortunately nintendo wasnt kind enough to automate things like l cancel or make landing lag lagless or any attack lagless to simplifide the controls and movement and make it viable recently there are so many platform fighters out there who have a canceling system around it for any attacks like rush down revolt or traditional fighting games like sf4 with its cancel attacks
@philosopherkingzant20372 жыл бұрын
@@lordtraxroy I think it's more of a matter of stupidity than kindness. Perfect choices are bad game design because the other options should never be chosen. I've never play a platform fight that isn't Smash. SF4 has a formula for it's cancel system. Once you know it, you can use it. Normals (stick direction + button) cancel into specials (stick motion + button(s)) cancel into supers (double stick motion + button). Even with L canceled, Melee is a much easier game to learn compare to regular fighting games. Every Smash character has the same controls but usually everyone in regular fighting games has their own command list. Great video and editing! Guilty Gear is my favourite series so i am obviously biased, but strive is my favourite because of how satisfying the combos can feel, when you see that huge chunk of damage ripped from enemy and you utilize your meter properly. I understand it might get frustrating to some, but it's by design so i am definitely not in that camp

@@typhoonbh Strive reworked the gatling system (from P-K-S-HS to a whole chart that I would link but KZbin does not like links) and shortened combo lenght from the other titles (which sparked the "good game bad, old game good" in the community, like it happened from acc+r to Xrd, which is now the golden child), but the damage is pretty much the same. GG as a series heavily focuses on offense and discourages excessive defence (Risk, roman cancel ecc.). Daisuke specifically envisioned it as a game where push and pull is the focus, albeit in strive you cannot convert out of anything unlike previous GGs. I.E. if jabs linked to kick, now jabs can only link into itself or a command normal.

@@SqallLionheart that makes sense, when I was thinking of every move leading into a combo, I was thinking about RC but of course that costs meter
@SqallLionheart2 жыл бұрын
@@typhoonbh I mean, it's a correct way of looking at it. I personally didn't take it into consideration because you have to see if the investment is worth (will the jab into command into special into RC kill or I will waste 50 meter to do barebone damage?). I think that the jab changes in strive were made taking into consideration your pov and to avoid what happened in older games (jab counter into universal gatling into special into RC into combo extension). Especially because you gain meter walking toward your opponent (staple of GG), so meter gain and RC combos are a staple

5:25 in Brawlhalla there was a time when Dexterity was a broken statistic, allowing gauntlets, bow and I think also katars at their release to do insane combos. Game was also slow then. Changes towards Dexterity killed the stat completely in a way that no one played a character with high dexterity only when a character had overtuned weapon buff. At the moment BMG tries to add fixed and variable frames allowing dexterity to be more useful, also game doesn't get patched like before, because only thing to balance now are signature moves. Yet adding new weapons just makes the game horribly balanced (talking about scythe, greatsword, boots (they are outstanding weapons from the ones already existing))

Guilty gear is all about going absolutely berserk on your opponent from just the slightest mistake, as those will usually net you 70% of the enemy's bar if you know what you're doing. Street fighter 6 though, feels very much like a game of chess. Every move can be countered or played against with a bit of reading and thought, no matter the situation (I compare this to happy chaos from guilty gear, as I myself play hc). I always hated platform fighters (maybe brawlhalla in particular) i pumped 700h into that game and i hate it not because i'm bad at the game (i AM bad) but the game grinds my gears soooo bad. Sure, you did say that you can end a match in 30 seconds but that involves not just skill, but also risk. You need to guess your opponent correctly and since platform fighters have massive arenas you can move around in it's almost never a 50/50 like your standard 2D fighter high/low or strike/throw mixup. It's always a guessing game on the oppressor. The matches almost always go passive since there's no real incentive of just rushing them down. Miss a read and you'll get whiff punished. I picked up strive recently and i had a lot of fun. Sure you die in 0.5 seconds and 10 picoseconds with chipp but my god playing strive was an adrenaline shot i never thought i needed. You never get stuck in 30 second combos because the wall breaks. Sure there's the pressure blender from having literally everyone playing rushdown but still, at least it's completely interactive and whether or not you get yoinked is your fault for losing neutral and guessing wrong.

I wouldnt say strive is a fast fg. Unless you are just counting fast as in high damage, that ends round fast. But then Dive kick would be the fastest game. it's extremely slow paced in terms of button speed, movement speed, etc. the delay before air dash is weird. in terms of fast like game ending fast. old sf2 games just clocked up their speed, and there were no proration back then, and you got dizzies, so combos did a rediculous amount of damage with few hits. kof games are more restrictive than air dashers, but often got a lot of (near)TOD combos, with no bursts or anything maab is the best example of a game that plays way faster than strive, but matches can take forever. high damage scaling, lots of neutral and blocking, timer freezing, etc. if you compare restrictiveness in maab, buttons and movement speed is a lot faster in maab, and you can block while air dashing forward. if you air blcok something, you reset air movements and can dash/jump again, theoretically for infinite. you also got big assists you can call before (air dashing). as far as character speed in a game's balance goes. slower attacks often have more active frames, which often make them better on neutral anyways, despite being slower.

I like fighting games where you can change the tempo. Devil May cry is the best example, and ninja gaiden. Tekken is my favorite pvp, but they ruined it in the 7th game, by fkn with side steps, and hitboxes, what morons
