I think the main purpose of the Bypass is to speed up Cascades trains and extend Sounder service. How many freight trains are expected to use it? Passenger trains clear crossings a lot faster than long freights do.

Tacoma rails Dupont local operates on the bypass as well as BNSF military trains and locals. Sorry it took you this long to get a response!

Those wayside horns are rediculous. They blow and blow, unlike train horns that only blow four times, and give a reference to train distance.

This comparison, while interesting and fun to watch, is not necessarily accurate to what is being applied- the Point Defiance Bypass. While Amtrak trains will most likely take the same amount of time as seen here, freight trains will vary since Military trains, which are slower, will run on the bypass, while Tacoma Rail's dupont local will also operate on the bypass. The decibel level also does not account for the wayside horn speakers applied to the crossings which are louder and act as horns.
