The TYR Valkyrie Elite Carbon is the first foray into performance-running by the New York-based sporting goods brand. TYR built its reputation for high-quality gear first in swim, then transitioned into the gym and CrossFit space. They're now entering running with the Valkyrie Elite Carbon, a carbon-plated 100% PEBA foam racer designed for former athletes who converted to running. To see if the shoe could really run, I took it out for a 22 mile workout. Here are my thoughts on how it performed and who it's best for.

Great review as always! Always loved their stuff for swimming interesting to see them branch out and with a more niche product. For pants I’m normally in tights but I picked up the Bandit soft speed track pants for this winter and I really like them. They arn’t joggers but I really like the material and pockets and they work really well either on their own or layered over tights when it’s

Thanks for the great review! Being that enthusiastic about it after a hard 22 mile first run really says a lot. I've seen the TYR brand on triathlete suits and that's all I know about it, but clearly they know how to develop and present products. It's a great looking shoe that seems to check the boxes, and as you said, not messing up anything is half the battle. Looking forward to seeing if you continue running in it and liking it as much.

My Favorite Winter Jogging Pant is the Path Projects Killam PX Pant, which I've used for almost every run this winter here in New England. They're super comfortable and their six pockets easily hold everything I need for long winter runs. I use them with the Path Projects Lynx PD 3" Base Liner or, when it's really cold outside, Patagonia Capilene Bottoms. The $98 price, while not cheap, is competitive and I much prefer the Killam to offerings from Janji, Lululemon, New Balance, and Wolaco.

Excellent detailed review. Wow, 22 mile run for a first run test. Nice work. Looks like a marathon shoe I'd be very interested in purchasing. I'm always scratching my head how brands that have been in the running game for so long can get uppers and other details so wrong (and laces!) yet a new player like TYR can get it right straight off the bat. It really shouldn't be that hard. Hopefully, it becomes available in Australia and a competitive price. I'm more interested in this shoe than the NB and Brooks marathon shoes.

I totally agree with the idea behind these shoes and also because we , average runners, can't run too fast as those pro athletes, but we could run for longer if these super shoes had more stability ! Not everyone will be feather weight or that will have a perfect and neutral gate when running to fully get the benefits of these super narrow and unstable super shoes . Some runners, like myself, want more bouncy shoes to run faster and break a PB, but for that, the trade-off can't be waisting evergy trying to balance our equilibrium running in "high heels" ...

Excellent video, especially as I like to see reviews of shoes for bigger runners. At 6’3 and size UK 13, shoes behave very differently, so often cant really go by a Demoor review. I wonder if they will ever sell these in the UK? I’d be keen to see how these compare to Puma Fast R 2, which is on my radar.

Great videos man. This shoe is like 60% off in India costing about 100 bucks. I am a brand new runner who is pretty tall (6'3 190 lbs) and have a slight overpronation on the left feet. I have a 10K coming up. Should I grab these shoes for raceday and speed workout or stick with my Tempus for everything. I am not a fast runner by any means. I run like 11 min miles on my speedy days.

Very interested to see more coverage of this shoe. I’m 6’4 220 and feel like it’s up my alley. I love the look and idea of this but not ready to spend 250 bucks. Personally would like to try this or the saucony endorphin speed 4. Did you feel any heel slippage?
@supwell
@supwell 5 ай бұрын
No heel slippage here - and I think you will be happier with this over the speed 4 for any faster and harder efforts. This felt much more supportive for me. The carbon plate instead of plastic makes a huge difference helping the PEBA foam stand up to more force. The endorphin pro 3 or 4 also might be a good option. But based on how the durability is here it could be worth that $250 - I am also trying to get a discount code to bring the price down a bit. I'll keep you posted

I was actually quite excited by your review of the new TYR footwear. Especially given your information that the midsole is firmer, at least firmer than some others on the market. I definitely don't like very soft midsoles, like the NB Elite V3 for example. Overall it looks like they did a really great job. My biggest question is about the size. I use the number 10.5 USA for my Saucony Pro 3. From what I can see, this is also your number. Would you recommend the same numbering for the TYR or would it be more prudent to try 11?

I’m a little confused why you are using creatine. The “loaded” stores in cells only would have a small benefit in sprints to my knowledge, while the increased water retention in muscle bellies would add a couple pounds of excess weight, decreasing endurance performance by 1% or two. Let me know if there is something I am missing!
