Reaper DMG is higher at start of expac purely because it is MADE for the new numbers squish, the other jumps adjustments weren't 100% correct so their damage fell behind him basically, at least that's what i think happened, it makes sense

Its all about optimization. I look at the class like this. Instant cast Potency> low potency spell spams. Healers, casters and tanks have either long cast time or inferior potency spells. This is why blm struggles to do dps while classes like Reaper spam procs for lower dmg but end up with higher parses. Reaper and sam have really fast, high potency skills and they spam it like no tomorrow. Its about quantity and quality. Classes like bards struggle not becos of cast time but becos their procs are mediocre and their gcds do barely any dmg. This is besides the logic that classes with group utility has lower dps. Some classes just dont have alot of high potency skills. Just looking at potency in the skill book will tell you that alone and you dont need a parser for that. Some classes just have straight up trash potencies and long cast timers compared to others no little or no cast time and ungodly potencies.

Plenty of BLMS doing just fine beating plenty of reapers. Also, potencies are not even equivalent between classes. 400 potency on RDM does not have the same damage multiplier as 400 potency on BLM. It's purely meant as a reference point exclusively within that job and cannot be compared with other jobs 1:1. Same goes for literally every class. Looking at potency in the skill book would tell you that Dancer has the highest dps of any class in the game, as they have the highest combined potency per gcd. This is clearly not the case.

Potencies **are** the multipliers, they decide how much of your core damage stats are being used to calculate an end hit, ie: (200% of MIND as Magical Damage) as opposed to (400% of MIND as Magical Damage). This however is further muddied by a convoluted defense algorithm and an inherent variance in damage on all hits across the board, as well as the fact that some classes gain more value in DPS from their core stat (Samurai gains more core damage from their base stats than White Mage.)

@@Red-tn3wm I feel it, when i saw drill, AA, and chainsaw were getting a 20 potency boost i was like "why are you not boosting wildfire a skill that takes the most effort to setup and it accounts for less then 3% of our damage for a whole fight" it's just kinda the frustration of it's not strong for what it offers and when they attempt to buff it they arnt putting the buffs in the correct skills, the easy fix is give machinist more raid utility the harder fix is buff the skills that actually need buffed to give it a personal dps edge. Buffs are buffs is basically what i had to tell myself after seeing the patch notes. but it shouldnt be like that.Machinist feels fantastic to play it just feels like the people in charge of machinist dont actually know what it needs to be better.

@@Freemindheaven when i started leveling bard which im not done with yet, i was a bit worried about keeping the dots up but iron jaws helped me get over that a bit since it refreshes both dot timers, i do wish iron jaws was a ogcd with like a 40 second cooldown or something so that you can weave it since its damage is not that great and with it having a 40 second cooldown ud run that risk of if u dont weave it your dots will fall off and ud have to reapply them giving it a but more emergence but i havent finished leveling it so im trying to hold back on those kinda judgements.

@@Airlinecuisine I'm at a point where Wildfire as it stands is a useless skill. Just because of how much setup you have to do (like you said) is heavily offset by its humongous cooldown. If wildfire was every 60 seconds it'd have a nice payoff. At this point, wildfire should be changed into a 20 second buff, that amplifies all incoming damage you do by 20%, without having the big boom. The fact that you have to squeeze 6 GCDs within a 10 second window for a 150 potency attack (as well double weave your gauss and richochet) is just lackluster made even worse if you're ping is about 100ms. It's almost as if the Devs are afraid of making MCH too strong that it would outshine Bard and Dancer. Even though those classes are designed around support....where mch was reworked to be more selfish.

I thought ninja's issue was that it's raid dps was super low, not it's personal dps. I think the job's that contribute a lot to party damage should be the top raid dps but it seems like it's still the ones that do very little teamwork

Both are the same, ultimately. A supportive DPS doesn't really play differently from a pure DPS. All it does is transfer the burden of that extra dps from themself to someone else pressing the now-buffed buttons. I think, if they're equally difficult to execute, they should be equal in RDPS. Ninja is pretty tough right now, but that's its personal rotation. Pressing Trick Attack, or Battle Litany on Dragoon, are not very difficult, except you have to avoid drifting.

The NIN complaint made sense when it was still a forced gap closer. You could have raiju, but be bound (EX1) and so can't use them and you want to still attack, but can't without losing stacks. Or a similar situation where you don't want to attack because, while you are in melee range still, you will still gap close into a mechanic and die. In that situation, it is nicer to continue the melee combo and raiju later. However, those issues were immediately gone when they made it no longer a gap closer. In fact, that fix was better then making it not break on a normal combo action. People did still complain about it after though which made zero sense... Also, throwing dagger doesn't remove Raiju Ready, neither does Phantom Kamitachi. Simply put, none of your ranged options remove Raiju Ready.

I used to main BLM. I loved it. I loved HUGE number etc. But when they came up with RDM I found that this is job that suits me more. Because I did not care anymore about huge numbers, but I really love that RDM is so universal. I can ress, I can heal. I can save whole raid when both bad healers died because of raid mechanic... I can ress both of them and still keep tank alive (for a short amount of time but still). I used to love biggest numbers and then I found myself in love with RDM because of it is universal. It will never be best in DPS, but it is great for me!

The reason ninja's raiju stacks are dumb is precisely because melee attacks cancel them so you're forced to use them right away. As a result, fleeting raiju ends up feeling so redundant since 9/10 times you can't use its gap-closing aspect when you actually need it

I'm definitely a job loyalist. I've played as a monk main since ARR, even when they were nerfed into the ground to the point where you'd never get into PF groups because of it. (I wanna say this was sometime in either HW or ShB, can't remember when exactly it was). And I get not liking a certain job just because it doesn't fit you. I specifically started leveling dragoon recently because of how broken they are in pvp. What do I end up doing? Queuing as my monk again. Because even though everybody agrees monk is underpowered in pvp, I like it too much to stop playing it. I'm such a monk loyalist, that even though I've been playing since ARR, this expansion is the very first time I've had two max level jobs outside of crafters. And I only have 2, because those are the classes I actually like playing. (Although, I will admit I might get a 3rd, after seeing how broken warrior heals are I started leveling one finally lol) There's something about picking meta picks that just bothers me, and that doesn't apply to just FFXIV.

Personally I think ff14 is really easy until you get to end game, it really holds your hand but in a good way. I think it being really easy is a good thing for early game because it really helps people come to terms with it if they never played an mmorpg before. I never got into any mmorpg before so it being easy early on was welcoming because the game focused on easing you into it and just enjoy being part of this world. It helps really immerse you into the game and once it gets to the part where it gets really hard you don't even need to do all that to enjoy the game because at that point you can just go become a full time DoH/DoL or a triple triad guru, you can go collect mounts and minions or just roam the land healing noobies who are soloing mobs in the overworld. There's so much to do in the game that you can just ignore the hard stuff and stick to everything else.

As a ninja otp, honestly every change that they've made to the job since I started playing in Stormblood has made the job baby mode. Even before they changed raiju, it still wasn't hard. Now with Raiju changed and the potencies buffed, it's a competitive melee job. It was playable before, but now it's just a really solid job. I love how smooth it plays. Optimization isn't that hard. ok I get the rest of the vid, but that raiju rant is pretty fucking dumb. There's a lot of mechanics where I need to stay max melee, or be in a specific position! I don't want to have to either hold my gcd or lose potency because I'm forced to use raiju gapclose TWICE afterwards. I can still stay at max melee/in pos with gibbet/gallows - if they wanted to add positionals to raiju to make up for the change I would have been 100% down with it. The change was perfect though, giving an OPTION to gapclose. Not to mention is it really that bad to ask for quality of life changes??

Playing a job and mastering a job are two different things in my eyes. The former needs to be accessible to the majority of the player population, whilst the latter does not matter unless you are specifically looking to push the job to its limit. My stick I am throwing in the ring is this: If I can play the content that I want, and I do not hate myself whilst playing it, then I am doing just fine. Also, job loyalty is dumb because if you can not step back and look at your job and see it's flaws then you are not doing anything to actually help your job be better. I love Drk and Sch, but I can point out their downsides. Drk: it's doing anything dungeon related. It is a more tedious experience compared to the others. Outside of that, it really isn't that bad for Drk, but I just got back in after taking a break when 6.1 or 6.2 dropped. Sch: All I can say about it that feels off is that I feel like I am playing two different kits slammed together somewhere in the middle, but I will still play it.

Machinist isn't bad, it's just in an awkward spot optically especially post 6.08. Their personal DPS is actually quite good, arguably the top of the ranged classes aside from blm. Due to its lack of party utility however, they're currently contributing the least rdps post 6.08. That said, the class is still perfectly viable in raids due to their high personal damage, it's just the optics of doing the least rdps while offering no utility to make up for it looks really bad on paper.

People tell me Bard is hard. After playing it for three years, I don't find it that hard anymore. Granted, a proper hotbar layout can change your life, and learning little tricks like refresh dots immediately after song swap, and cut songs at 3 seconds. The formula is there, and knowing it makes it so much less confusing. Bard still is proc heavy though, so you will spend more time glancing at your hotbar then some jobs and that can take some getting used to (as per a FC member who recently switched to bard after years as other classes and was complaing about how much he needed to look down. XD) Your two best friends for figuring out how your rotation should flow... Icy Veins/The Balance, then sinking some time on the training dummy to see how it all fits together. Rearrange hotbars to make sense, and maping keys around WASD will make your life easier. Not everything needs to stay on 1-0 (learned this lesson late in life AFTER years of playing WoW orz Might have made WoW easier too.) Take away: Look up some tips and tricks and quality of life hacks, and things will be a lot less frustrating. A lot of great things are not immediately obvious. Like Legacy Camera.... Legacy camera and unchecking 'face target' turned me from mediocre player to clearing Unreals. Unlike WoW, FFXIV doesn't care if you face your target 90% of the time unless your ability is directional aoe. (PS: Squenix... please do not make bard 'too' easy if you streamline it, learning it feels satisfying.)

There are neckbeards who swear you just aren’t smart enough to understand it and there are Karens who swear it’s nothing but shock humor and gore. Both are kind of right. It does include some intelligent humor, like astrophysics jokes, philosophy and psychology, and meta commentary. It’s also pretty standard caveman entertainment at times. The best way to enjoy Rick & Morty (or not) is to say fuck everyone else’s overly opinionated reaction and form your own judgement by watching it and seeing if you like it. ✌🏽

Nin main since HW, I'm not a job loyalist, but would say a True ninja. It's my main and I won't bring anything else to raid. I've always embraced, taken pride, but also always taken what comes with playing the job. It was almost sheer utility at first, then clunky stormblood, then double raijus but I still love the job no matter what. It was a "meta" job at one point or maybe even for a long while but that's never really mattered in this game, not even for dps. Maybe Paladin during Heavensward is the only example of a job being at a legit disadvantage but even so it didn't stop and many still cleared the toughest content anyway. I can't think of any game that involves multiple characters, let alone real people online, where there isn't a favorite and a best and most of the time those don't line up.

I personally don't like WAR, but I still leveled it to max, raided with it in SB, and am usually pretty happy to see one as my cotank, but on a personal level, I would rather play the other 3 tanks. Also in SB I would use sch as my main healer but when it was changed in ShB, yes I was upset, but what I did is use WHM instead and now in EW WHM is starting to feel off and I'm looking into leveling SGE instead. The only job I have a modicum of loyalty for is PLD which I've played since SB and yes it did bum me a bit that the dps was super low at start, but I still cleared p4s with it and overall I really like the kit, and whenever I play DRK ,which I also really like, I do miss some parts of PLD kit tho mainly for situations where healer kissed the floor and I'm now hearing the sonic drowning jingle because I can't heal myself like PLD can.

You know, I'm in the same boat with Gunbreaker, I don't like how it plays but it is objectively good still. And as for talking about my personal job, sure I feel like PLD has got more complex to optimise as expansions go, but it's still super easy to play to a good level, and even the thing of it getting more complex to optimise is from a personal stand point, like hitting requiescat during FoF atonements seems fairly simple but I only find it harder because of 4 years of pressing it just before I go into casting holy spirits, so muscle memory is a blessing and a curse.

I haven't done Savage yet, but I kind of hate people who do Savage just because how much I hear that they want the game to be structured around them. It's a fun, expansive adventure game with a great story and there's very few real adventure games on the market right now. But they talk about it like it's CSGO or some other competitive arena shooter. Just go play those games.

You actually had control over and interacted with the pet and demi summons whereas now you don’t at all. Used to feel very rewarding to play optimally and now feels lifeless with absolutely no skill expression to be had. Red mage somewhat fills that void now with some of the cool things you can do with your rotation so it’s not all bad, glad people like the new summoner rework ofc too just not for me.
