It is astonishing that people have decent cars and wrecked/cheap-o tyres. When I get out of my car in a car park, I casually look at the tyres and can barely believe the things I've seen. The feeling from your car when you fit quality new tyres is worth the premium every time. Pulling out of junctions aggressively and the traction control remaining dormant is very satisfying, not to mention safe!

I used both Cup 2 and the old PSS for both trackday and daily. The cup 2s were clearly superior on track, and even did ok on a wet track. They had half the life as a road tyre though. (2 sets of both used) I’d imagine the cup2R and PS4 combination would be both better and more extreme in wet/longevity metrics
@taylorc25424 жыл бұрын
I don't want a fast tire, I want a fun tire; a tire that uses all the latest construction technology to give us the best steering feedback and break away characteristics, but without the focus on grip and lap times. I can't tell the difference between .95g and 1.07g, and I don't care; higher limits mean less time to enjoy the car. Make a 4S with 500 tread wear that I can enjoy on the street and not go broke.

The Nankang are supposted to be really good, but i never ever have driven those. The Toyos are not really good. It is more sensible to buy the Michelin pilot 4s, then any of the Toyo semislicks. @@flyingphoenix113 Yeah, that's fair. I read the original comment as asking him to just discuss which tire is better for drifting, basically. Your interpretation, from what I can gather, reads more like "please discuss the breakaway characteristics and how easy it is to regain control of the car beyond the limit," which I thought the video did sort of address already. @@NorthernCommando I live in Chicago. I have a set of Bridestone Blizzak tires. Last winter I decided to keep the Pirellis on because the Blizzak tires are so soft they hamper performance quite a bit. It's a trade off for superb snow and ice traction. The Dodge I was driving had 500 hp and was rear wheel drive. With the Pirelli All Season P Zero Plus I drove in several snow storms. I out a 60 pound sand bag in the trunk to have more weight on the rear tires. I never got stuck. It was a bit squirrely on uphill roads covered in snow but on flat roads I had decent confidence. Let's be honest, I'm never going to buy these tyres, but just as it's nice to watch a video about supercars I'm never going to buy, this is amazing. This also made me think about how much influence the tyres actually have on the handling. When car testers say that a car is, for example, understeery, could it be because of the tyres and not so much the car itself? It's a bit like testing a tennis racquet without paying attention to what strings are used in it. Sure, you can get some idea, but the strings (or in this case tyres) might enhance or mask some characteristics. What do you think?

Quality review as always, and with valuable nfo for those that use this class of tires, just that this niche seems very narrow. Yes, ultimate dry track day tires, but imho there are at least 10 times more enthusiasts that have smaller budget, so want tires to last longer, for set going for full or even several trackdays, be more capable also driving to track on public roads, and select compromise set a bit lower, to eg. "normal" Cup2 or PS4S level, so imho "less" ultimate tires niche might interest much wider in numbers crowd.

Great review. I compete in my GT3RS and have been using the Supersport RS tyres. The biggest issue is warming up the tyres then getting a clear lap immediately to set a fast time before the grip drops off. You only have one shot at it, but there can be up to 20 cars on track. If you get held up on your first hot lap you may as well have run Cup 2’s or similar and saved a lot of money as they last much longer. Cup 2 R’s are also significantly more expensive than the Goodyear’s here in Oz, but I’ve got one set so looking forward to trying them out shortly.

@@tonous83 I feel they have given their best after one session and don’t come back from that. The grip definitely drops off after a couple of fast laps for sure. Please, repeat the test for the japanese tyres from Bridgestone and Yokohama. Something like Time Attack meets Touge.

This is a great idea! I second this!

Because those tyres are not best of the best, they're middle of the road. People want to know what the best tyre they can buy for a given use is, not some cheap ditchfinder.
@ghezinho90494 жыл бұрын
@@1Dustin I think that for a lot of people those are not a cheap ditchfinder, but the only option. A good portion of enthusiasts does track days with a relatively regular car and not a GT3RS, and these top-tier performance track-oriented tyres are simply not available on the measure for their cars, differently from other brands like Bridgestone and Yokohama, also Toyo or even Nankang and Federal. That would be just a different test suited for a different target (which btw includes also myself, because as long as I'd like to have a really performance-oriented tyre I have just an MX-5 and these top tier brand simply don't produce a tyre for me. I mean, if I'd had to stay with Michelin or GY I'd had to get an old tyre because even their latest uhp models like the Pilot Sport 4 or the Asymmetric 5 are not produced in my size)
@1Dustin4 жыл бұрын
@@ghezinho9049 Fine - buy the Pilot Sport Cup 2 and not the RS, and avoid the ditchfinders. You will find Michelin and Goodyear UHP in most normal car sizes. If you're driving an Mk1 MX5 with 10" wheels...then yeah, enjoy those ditchies!

Ive always wanted to know. How would a Cup 2 R go against something like an AO52 or R888R or RE71 or Ventus TD. Like those REAL trackday tires.
@tyrereviews4 жыл бұрын
It would mince them, the R888R etc will be slower than the Trofeo R

The A052 will be very close to trofeo r on dry times,RE71R following and last the R888R
