A great match I fought with my old friend Martin Janicina from Zoldnieri. We were sort of wishing this to happen for a long time and finally we managed to pull it. Even though I won it I still think the match was very even.

It felt like the fencers were way ahead of the judges during this match. Saw Fabian call a point that was struck by Janicina right out of the gate, a couple of shots on both sides that looked like they did not pass through guards that were called as points and a fair amount of visible frustration on both party's sides. I say all of this and would like to caveat that active judging is extremely difficult and can understand how and why this would happen.

Hi! This was a very difficult match to judge and our judges/refs were judging for 12 hours straight :) The video doesn't contain the actual judging part where they were consulting the video ref in some cases. Also the last point was super hard to see even on video and if it wasn't for Janicina calling the point no one would know, even me. Also if we seem frustrated it was by our performance, surely not because of the judges. They did a great job :)

Employing slow-mo recordings like in some other sports would probably be a good idea here. But after 12 hours straight ain't nobody got energy for that :v

One of my favorite rapier & dagger matches of all time, along with Perkov vs Kultaev from SF 2018 and Danilov vs Novichenko from Minsk

Thank you :) We're wearing similar shin guards, the ones I'm using are REY SG street hockey shin guards, cheap and nice :)

Really nice match and I also think you both are good fighters, but Fabian, you obviously have better control. At least I believe that is what I saw.

There's some impressive skill here on both fighter's parts, but it looks to me like they're both setting up in measure a lot. I know some of it is deliberate setups during footwork, and my eye might be off, but I feel like both fighters are just starting a half step too close to one another.

This is a relatively (1-2 years) new fighter observation, but after watching previous video this is attributed by the nature of the two fighters, Fabian being a sniper and Janicina being a counter puncher that normally uses proceeding with resolution. Martin is looking for that fast, efficient shot between weapons and Janicina is providing the invitation with the intent to counter punch. A lot of the refused guards that Janicina uses are made to lure the opponent in or push forward through.

I will eventually. I should have everything from Longsword but in Rapier I unfortunately didn't shoot 2 or 3 but I'll try to dig them out from the stream if they will be there.

Hah no, no. I didn't make it out of Longsword 16 and this came with some luck since I had very close matches before.

Weeel, the rapier section of Tyrnhaw is getting kind of predictable :D. But yeah, anyone from the first four could have won the tournament (in rapier) with lot of nice matches.

@@pavolkolesar6835 Every time I see rapier tournament recordings (which is not very often tbh) fights are always really close, guess the french were right to ban duels in XVIIc :v

That is the most historically accurate match I've seen so far. Lots and lots of people stands still and fight with only one thrusting reflex. But you gentlemen, you seem to understand the idea behind it more than anyone else.

For sport fencing it makes sense. In actual duels being able to move around using traversing steps and passing steps is vital.
