@wazroady I guess you didn't understand what I was trying to tell you (or maybe you don't want to so it's easier to blame me for everything): If we don't know what the causes for these sicknesses are we are unable to make informed decisions - there is only very little information available right now. We need to know what exactly caused all those diseases so we can act responsibly.

Thoughtful presentation trying to raise concerns of chemicals being used without knowing it's consenquences; but still overall nothing new. It is and will always be hard to find out what long-term use and consumption of different chemicals means. Sometimes results on us and enviroment can be seen only after 10-20 years of massive use and production.

@KemaTheAtheist: The conclusion is that we don't really know what the effects in humans are. Generally, the populations studied are small. This raises the question if they actually represent the general population. Although this TED talk raises many questions on the validity, the fragments of evidence provided does present a compelling idea worth spreading. That is the idea of the TED talk.
@tesscot
@tesscot 6 жыл бұрын
He said we can't study the effects on humans so instead they analysed the amount of the chemical in men with low sperm counts. He is a scientist. Maybe you are too. I am a holistic person. I think correlations are valid of course a scientist wouldn't but before the scientific method existed we survived on seeing someone eat something, throwing up and then saying that might be poisonous. I think the answer is why put the stuff in your body. It is poison no matter what. We all know it's poison.

It also happens that most of those children start showing signs of autism at the time that autism would normally surface. In other words, it is very hard to prove that it's linked to the shots, because the autism is showing up at the same time that it normally would.

@tvsinesperanto we can show it, and there are many documentaries out on it (look at top documentaries if you want to find some). The thing with chemicals today is that when rated, each is rated on a clean body compared to adding that one component. So take a healthy person, use shampoo, check toxins. The problem is shampoo isn't the only one with toxins, canned food is as well, along with many other items we eat. There has been no study on the combine toxin levels.
@Crispy_Bee

@NobodysOffTheHook That's true but we need to determine the cause of these diseases, otherwise we might blame someone or something which is not responsible and won't find a solution anyway. And you're right, we shouldn't have to diagnose an illness in our children but as it is exists we have to examine it and its causes and stop it from happening.

The problem with her assumptions is that she didn't account for the fact that doctors tend to diagnose more and more people with autism and asthma and trough the use of modern technology we're able to determine an illness such as leukemia much earlier in life. It's not that I disagree with the general statements made but you shouldn't just look at statistics without any further information.

I also would love to know the answer to this question. I've been using water filters for a long time now but they are also plastic and now am wondering if my PLASTIC water filer is pointless now because even though it's filtering the water, it's still plastic and the water just sits in a plastic container after filtration.

cont 2... Fifth question, "Does the chemical react the same way in humans as it does in amphibians?" There is so much missing here, there is absolutely no reason to look at it anything more than fear mongering, especially with that little fetus video, "Help me!" All the papers I looked at described these things as negligible. The only bad links that seem to be being made here are by the speakers.

cont 2... I actually looked up the study: From this study: Comparison of migration from polyethersulphone and polycarbonate baby bottles. Simoneau C, et. al Only 8 of 40 bottles released any measurable amounts of BPA, most were about ~1µg/kg with the worst being 1.83µg/kg. The regulatory limit is 600µg/kg. If you understand how small 1µg/kg is, then you understand why it's absurd she refers to it as "dosing our children."

@leconfidant can you please link the study that proved it? Last I heard (about 2 years ago), they had no idea. They thought it was DNA but they found very strong evidence that it wasn't, as they have found in families with 5 children, the 5th child is 4 times more likely to be homosexual than the first child. If it was DNA, we wouldn't see such a huge difference between which child is in line.

@rg055 "What's your point?" Did you catch that part of my comment about understanding how small of an amount that is? Referring to that as "dosing" your kid is absurd fear mongering because that amount can't have a significant effect. 1µg/kg = .001 milligram Do you understand how small an amount that is? Do you really think that qualifies as "dosing" your child? Come on...

@wevenhuis "But are you implying that there are no truths in some of the arguments?" No. What I'm implying is exactly what I said. What they have given as evidence does not support their supposed conclusions and implied links to human physiology. If they had instead stated, "We're not sure yet what all of this might cause, but it is something we should encourage more research in" I would have been fine with the talk (minus the purely fear mongering crap like the "help me" fetus).

@wazroady You need to look at the factual cause of the baby's death, otherwise we won't know for certain what caused it and we might blame something which isn't responsible after all! The right amount of information would be: "the increase of autism can be directly linked to these chemicals because the chemical XYZ reacts with the brain of the infant and can be found in each and every child with autism". If we don't look for the actual cause we won't be able to prevent it in the future

@tvsinesperanto WHeli it is true that there is no confirmed link between BPA and desease in Humans the facts are sugestive. BPA is hormone active, it does cause deformation in reptiles and mice, our current waste water treatment does not remove it (there is much work done to get that fixed) and we do not know what longtime exposure will do, even if it's very small amounts. Her presentation is bad and I had to force my self to watch it but there is science behind it.
