Thanks for this video. Obviously it was posted a while ago so would you happen to know if the firmware upgrade with work on the current TYT dual band UV380. Not sure I want to upgrade the firmware at the moment in case I brick it.

No. The UV380 is a completely different model. It will most certainly not work.

I just bought an MD-UB380 as my first trip into DMR and this is the best video I have seen. I need to learn more DMR but also hoping to find programming of the FM and UHF analog channels so I can use this as my main radio and put the others aside.

This video was about the MD-380, not the MD-UV380. The hacked/custom firmware for the MD-380 will not work on the MD-UV380 because they're completely different radios.

There seems to be no DMR radio which will auto switch to slot 1 or 2 as I would like it. If I use DSD plus on the pc of course I hear slot one and slot two at the same time, just not possible it seems with any DMR radio as I say ?

Not that I'm aware of. You could make a scan list and simply create two channels - one for each slot in that scan list. But then it will only play the audio of whichever timeslot starts being transmitted on first.

My rt3 will not transmit...any ideas ? Rx only is NOT enabled for my local repeaters code plug entry so I don't understand this. 380toolz installed

That is strange. I've never heard of that happening before. You could try loading a different firmware and see if it makes a difference. Try updating using this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXKUeJ6nnLSSpbM

radiosification I have latest 380toolz...it's weird but in another zone for dv4mega etc It will key up, blue arrow showing in this zone but not in the one my repeater is on

radiosification found out the problem...it's just simply I am out of range to aceess it although it's a good signal. Hence the low pitched tone alert...Guess I need a better antenna !

Hi there, thanks for sharing the video this was a while ago I recognise that.. I have recently bought a MD380 and it already had MD380tools installed on it.. I downloaded the VM for Windows and updated the software then flashed latest firmware. I sent a codeplug (I could only send cp via VM as USB isn't recognised in any if the CPS for Windows) But the radio isn't playing well with dmr (no audio) analogue is fine though. Someone says that when programming the codeplug if you have the dmr frequencies rx and tx the same it won't work. So I changed to the proper shift and still nothing. I'm also missing settings that I noticed where first in the radio before I flashed it. Settings missing are the ability to change / edit the channels, frequencies and cc. Apparently I'm now on cps 1.4 so I don't know if that got anything to do with it. Anyway thanks again. As always trial and error with these things. Kind Regards Rab MM7BVP

I have the Zastone D900 which is the same as the 380. My question is how do you receive audio. I'm using a hotspot and I see that the radio is receiving a signal but not audio. I see on the display the speaker has an x next to it how do you unmute the speaker?

As I can see You are really good at TYT radios. Please can You make video how to set up 2 TYT radios just to communicate straight between them (avoid repeaters). Another words: I want to use them just like analog PMR but in DIGITAL mode. Thank You for support.

If i just wanted to monitor a frequency does the promiscuous mode not ignore the time slots as well as colour codes and talk groups?. Or could I just set up a scan list of two channels with individual timeslots, let promiscuous handle the TG & CC and just scan between the two channels for the active timeslots?

No you still need the right colour code and timeslot. If you want to monitor without knowing anything then buy a scanner that supports DMR

No it's not possible on this radio. You have to know the frequency, timeslot and colour code. But with promiscuous mode you don't need to know the talkgroup

+notsecure Yes, you can do that. That's what I usually do.

Unfortunately, you DO still need group lists. As the MD380 does not fully follow the ETSI specs, the "admit criteria" does not work properly. If set (correctly) to "color code", the radio will not transmit until the repeater has actually dropped, rather than when the traffic through it has ceased. Anyone whose radio does work correctly, (or who have set the admit criteria to "always") will always win. The setting "always" will transmit even if the channel is free, but the timeslot is busy, thus causing qrm. It is a really odd workaround, but every channel needs a receive group list, and then have the admit criteria set to color code. Then, the only time you CAN transmit over the top of someone is when you are on the same channel/talk group/slot. And of course, as you can hear them, why would you... In my '380, the receive group list contains the talkgroup of the channel, plus talkgroup 9. (i.e. UK235, there is a receive group I called UK235, it contains the contact UK235, and 9, and it is used in the UK235 channel). Needless to say, this is not an issue in my Motorolas, nor my Hytera. I don't know about the MD2017, or the MD UV380, but I would suspect that the fault has been carried over. HTH, 73 de G4***

+popeyethesailor9 You can field program it but I think there is no FPP option for creating channels, so you have to first create some empty channels which you then change in the field. I don't know if the software works on Mac.

Hi, Thanks for the videos, they are very helpful, I have a MD 390s , running experimental firmware, I hae the slots and colour codes for local active frequecies but while I have a green led indicating activity, I am not receiving anyaudio signal on the radio. I am using promiscious mode and have DSD+ running beside it which decodes DMR no problem so I know the chanells are active. Any ideas?

They could be using RAS which makes it impossible to listen to on another DMR radio without knowing the RAS key. However dsd still decodes ras stuff fine. My advice is just stick to listening on DSD. If you don't see ras in DSD+ then it could just be not set up properly. Make sure you have promiscuous mode turned on.

Make sure your RX and TX are at least 12.5Khz apart. If they run via a repeater, the radio will pick up the signal but no modulation will be heard through the speaker if the frequencies are programmed the same.

If I'm on any random TG on TS1 and in promiscuous mode, will I hear any active conversation on TAC-310 without having to PTT?

+D Doc No, because PTT talkgroups like that one are only transmitted by the repeater upon request. With promiscuous mode you hear everything that is transmitted in the timeslot you're on, but if a PTT talkgroup has not been activated then it just won't be coming out of the repeater.

I picked up a new MD 380 a few days ago and installed tools on it I cannot get it to work on the new radio I have a very old many years ago MD 380 and it works perfectly on that one Is it possible does anyone know that the tools does not work on the newer radios? My older radio is hardware version one The new radio is hardware version 5 This is the only difference I see in the radios at all Anyone help me on this?

can this radio be used as a pmr TYT MD-390 on the light user licence.at the moment i have mitex radios but get a lot of other users,on same freq so would like to go digital also more private? also do you have to have a radio id cos it wont be used as an amature radio, located in london uk

Digital will not stop interference from other users, it will just stop you from hearing it. This can be a bad thing though because it means that your radios will sometimes just not work and you won't know why. I will make a video explaining radio IDs soon, so subscribe to see it.

as already stated, you can still get other signals blocking you, however if they are on analogue and open ctcss they soon move after hearing dmr data lol... if im correct the MD380 and others is type approved, its alsow within power limits and you can program the 3 uhf freq's in, some advantages is secure and encrypted etc the average joe on an old analoge set wont even be able to make out what you say
