During the final exams, Aoyama almost caused himself and Uraraka to fail. At the time, the class thought failing the exam meant not being able to go to the Training Camp. Aoyama was trying to avoid learning where the Camp was, doing so meant no info to give AFO.

A list of foreshadowing moments for Aoyama being the traitor, cause there's honestly a lot of them even though Horikoshi hid them well so the traitor's identity wasn't obvious: -The way he always looked into the camera, as if he knew something the other characters didn't -His tight, unnatural looking smile that he wore in nearly every scene unless something with AFO was going on -The way he went around and asked if anyone knew where he was during the USJ incident and then refused to tell where he was when asked -He tried to fail his final exam with Uraraka by distracting her with questions about her crush on Deku so he wouldn't have to go to the training camp and expose its location -He was the only one who was spooked in Deku's hospital room after the training camp when a doctor came in (they were discussing plans to help track down the League and AFO at the time) -He tried to sacrifice his chance to get a provisional license by attracting other schools to himself, again likely so he would have a reason not to be involved when something with the League went down -He made excuses not to eat with the other students during lunch....instead choosing to eat by himself in the classroom -He was one of the only students to advocate against going to find Deku and bring him back to UA, stating that he was with adults so he was probably safe. He kept his face turned downward while saying this, despite usually looking directly into the camera There were honestly a lot of good red herring moments for Hagakure too. I was convinced she was the traitor for a long time, right up until they ended the manga volume with that shot of her in the woods. But that just shows how well Horikoshi wrote it.

There's a reason why the traitor plotline went unresolved for so long! Since AFO was their only contact, after Kamino the Aoyama family stopped receiving instructions. And since they were unwilling traitors, they didn't do anything suspicious while he was gone!

Most of the traitor theories I've heard suggested either Aoyama or Hagakure was the traitor. There were a host of reasons for each but they mainly centered around their quirks. Aoyama's quirk didn't mesh well with his body, much like Midoriya's, so people that he may have been given his quirk as well. Hagakure's quirk makes her an excellent spy and we had never seen her face. Some people thought she could turn off her quirk but chose not to. There were other details. Both were unaccounted for during the USJ attack. Some people thought Dabi spotted Aoyama hiding in the bushes during the training camp arc but left him alone because he was the spy. Others thought All For One didn't know about the Kamino mission because Hagakure was comatose at the time and couldn't warn him. Horikoshi likely heard some of the theories and decided to troll the readers by making it look like the traitor was Hagakure at the end of the chapter and letting fans mull that over for a week.

The Aoyama family were stuck in a hard place after they dealt with AFO; every choice was awful. The worst thing I can say of the parents is that they put the burden on their son to save them, which on a level was skirting responsibility for the situation… but even then it’s a terrible situation to be stuck in. I’m glad Horikoshi sat on this reveal until it was the right time to hit us; it could have been dropped on us in the Training Camp arc and we’d have maybe had dramatic irony, but I love how it was done here.

The point of the invisible girl misdirection was that the two main suspects in the fandom for the traitor were her and aoyama. They were the only two students who we never see during the usj incident actively fighting the villains, and their actions in the training camp weren’t conclusive one way or the other. (Hagakure was knocked unconscious by the gas and aoyama was hiding and conflicted about fighting). There was lots of evidence pointing to aoyama though. Rewatching the series and paying attention to him with the traitor reveal in mind is very interesting…

Another fun fact, All Mights police partner, Tsukauchi, was revealed by horikoshi to have a scrapped plotline where Tsukauchi was the UA traitor. Horikoshi decided not go thru with making him a traitor, however, there were clues early in the story to suggest at the time he would be a traitor.

I really cannot blame Aoyama or his parents here. We've seen from Deku's POV the discrimination Quirkless people receive in this world, and Aoyama's parents understandably didn't want their son to recieve such cruelty. They made ONE bad choice out of love and support for their child that resulted in them and Aoyama becoming unwilling pawns for a madman. Not to mention Aoyama being born Quirkless was actually foreshadowed REALLY well throughout the series. I actually really like how this was written.

I’m just gonna say it, Aoyama doesn’t deserve to be imprisoned for this. He’s a kid who was forced into a situation where he had the choice of doing what he was told or dying with his parents. I know there’s consequences and stuff, but like, I’m with Midoriya here.

His circumstances will likely be taken into consideration when all is said and done. Unfortunately, he DID still commit a crime, but he'll likely have a lesser sentence, suspension/revoking his hero license (doubtful that they'd let him be a hero after this, unfortunately), and probably community service, especially if he helps the heroes. Midoriya is trying to get him to see that he can still CHOOSE to do the right thing, instead of wallowing in misery and letting AFO do whatever he pleases.

Zamber, do you remember how Ochako and Aoyama almost failed their final exam? He didn't seem the least bothered by the possibility they could fail. One could atribute that to his own personality. However, one can't stop but wonder... if Aoyama was trying to fail on purpose, so that he wouldn't go to camp with his class and be forced to tell AOF its location. If that is true, then I can only imagine what his reaction would be if he DID had failed the final exam and then discovered he would go nevertheless.

Something that really made me upset when people get super pissed at his parents is the fact that AFO was essentially a state secret so they really couldn’t have known they were making a deal with like, the literal incarnate of evil. They were only rich people that were a little naive but still wanted to try and do the best for their son. The thing to remember here is we saw AFO's process for this back in S5. He makes you think he's your friend and on your side then you gotta pay back the favour. In Aoyama's case it was years later that they got the call saying do this or die. They're victims of his manipulation too

Alright! The traitor is revealed! I have been waiting to talk about this for quite some time. I like the story and I like the idea of all this. But I don’t think it was utilized the best. I remember when a certain chapter ended, Hagakure was hiding behind a tree as they narrated about the traitor. And the people who suspected Hagakure did a MASSIVE victory lap. She wasn’t at the vote for the Class President Vote! She hasn’t done anything narrative so she’s free to do whatever! We can’t see her body so she might be deformed with other quirks! And I to counter said please there’s ZERO build up for her. None at all! I don’t like the idea of student suspects at all and AOYAMA has more build up. And then the NEXT chapter came and I proceeded to have a doctor surgically remove my foot so I could fit the entire thing in my mouth. It’s like Horikoshi heard me and slapped me. XD I spent a good amount of last season talking about what crosses off traitor suspects off my list and what gets me to think they are traitors or not. And at that point in the manga I figured it was Vlad King, Present Mic, or Principal Nezu. Vlad King was absolved when the villain who killed Midnight appeared in color who had an identical build and hair style when he wasn’t in color. And Present Mic attacked Garaki in his home base to stop Shigaraki and in a place he could have been betraying for the sake of Shirakumo who has now become a Nomu that they could hold over him. So those didn’t match up. But Nezu? Surely this episode absolved my concerns for Nezu right? You’re not going to believe this, but no. In fact this episode made me certain with how AFO explained how he enjoys making plans, there was someone standing over Aoyama AT UA to maintain pressure on him as the middle-man. As the way they explained it…somehow made Nezu MORE suspicious not less. Everytime Aoyama acted it got confusing how this pulled off at all. Nezu PERSONALLY had a scene in season 5 where he SPECIFICALLY hard clears EVERY student. They investigated the kids and came up with NOTHING. And I say HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. Aoyama is engaging this episode and he broke instantly at every single juncture out of the sheer terror of AFO literally killing others RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM for those that disobeyed. He was in constant panic and turmoil and Nezu HARD CLEARED HIM. Then there’s the blind spot in the forest. After beefing up security across the seasons, INCLUDING the New UA barrier and being in OFA’s inner circle for years when AFO has targeted UA for such a long time by his own admission, I find it weird that this blind spot was found at all and during THIS time of the jailbreakers and the need for everything to be even more secure with Deku now back! Not that AFO wouldn’t have ways of drawing people out or finding these people alone to target them, but this is essentially the same place Deku fought Gentle Criminal where a blind spot was found LAST time. And one of the BIGGEST ones that threw me off. All-Might is going to be a teacher at UA. Go and enroll. The state of All-Might’s UA employment was STRICTLY hush hush and there was no real leak about any of that. So what’s the issue? All-Might being a teacher blind sided the public and was ONLY talked about during a SINGLE scene before this. And it was RIGHT after AFO was critically injured with All-Might in their prime fight, Nighteye saw the future of All-Might, and they discussed how it’s time to choose a new symbol. And there were only 5 characters present. All-Might, who wouldn’t betray himself. Nighteye who has since passed away. Gran Torino who has been on AFO’s hitlist for YEARS as Nana’s friend and he’s successfully escaped with his life AFTER taking blows from BOTH AFO’s. Recovery Girl who while DOES have opportunity to take advantage of Deku in his bone breaking stage to give him to AFO, doesn’t and keeps him safe. And the ONLY ONE that fits giving up that information being Nezu. And stacked with the list of OTHER suspicious actions that AREN’T cleared up with this reveal, I just sat there and said HOW IS HE MORE SUSPICIOUS?! I’m not trying to endlessly prove Nezu is apart of this. In fact once Aoyama was revealed, I said how can I DISPROVE Nezu. And only found MORE. And I decided to air my suspicions on Nezu ANYWAY knowing the traitor because it boggles my mind. Also AFO once had navel laser. Someone PLEASE tell me he posed like Aoyama does to use it. I love the idea AFO has a bunch of useless/unstable quirks he can give to people willing to make a deal with the devil. My biggest question is why did Aoyama try to get an SOS out AFTER AFO was caught? Before fine but after? I don’t object to Aoyama being a great reflection of Deku receiving a quirk from All-Might and AFO. I don’t object to his motivations. I don’t object to any bit of how Aoyama’s role played out here. But it needed support to work well and I just think this part of the story needed to cover more considering the pure scope of how people dissected the story looking for the traitor. EVERY CHARACTER was dissected. And I’ll just say the smartest character in the show be slacking off.

I hated that aoyama was the traitor (after being spoiled when the manga said it and people weee talking about it a lot) cuz that means one of the few lgbt coded characters was a traitor 😭 like I get it he is french and has the best reason to be but come on, let my cheese loving boy go free
