I thought ships couldn't move diagonally through the center of the plot, the way the escort moved to attack your surfaced u-boat, since they can only move to an adjacent area? On page 3 the tactical display's "Adjacent Areas" are defined, and at the bottom of page 3 it states that diagonally opposite convoy areas are not adjacent. So for the four convoy areas at the center of the plot, each one is adjacent only to two other convoy areas and not the convoy area diagonally across from it. With speed = 3 the escort can still reach your surfaced u-boat, but not diagonally across the center of the convoy area.

I have the hunters and silent victory, I did not look into these games because I feel they are similar. What do you think? Is there enough difference between them?

There's is a difference. Silent victory gives you more of a story, while keeping track of ships sunk and tonnage. U-Boat Leader is all about the victory points.
