This is nothing to do with caste. It's human network effect. As more folks from other communities join there will be different effects. Look at software companies.. BTW. What do brahmins do today to call themselves brahmins? Nothing. So they don't deserve any affiliation to the caste. The network effect is fairly common around the world. We just add the caste dimension to it . Outside it is racism. It's challenge for anyone to break into that network from outside. Focus on that instead of painting a caste dimension to this. This unnecessarily creates hate and divide. The affluent will get away on both sides.. it's the poor and weak who bear the brunt of this hatred.

if they hated you so much why did they hire you? The new Generation has always had contempt for everything old and the old guards are insecure of the new ones. There is nothing new here and you don't have to paint a caste paint on this. Successful people know the art of working with others and getting things done. Is there a lack of diversity in IITs, yes. The Centre mandates a reservation of 27% in faculty positions for candidates from OBC category, 15% from SC and 7.5% from ST community. People should strive to fill these positions and keep them. Not run away for trivial reasons.
@harishpsubramanian
@harishpsubramanian 2 жыл бұрын
He says that brahmins are dominant in IIT. We need to understand that this community placed emphasis on learning and teaching as compared to other communities in the past. Only in the present generation things are changing, where talented young brahmins are more into Corporate and Business, and talented other communities are also showing more interest in teaching. There is also a difference in the quality in the old guard and the quality of the new guard. The new guard is dynamic more result oriented. Adminstrators at the top understand this, that is why there is emphasis on foreign returnees and the expertise they bring. Understandably there is an insecurity in the old guard and also the need to guard their turf. Vipin should not paint caste color. I agree with him that the process of recruitment, the transparency should be addresed, along with autonomy and result orientedness. This is the solution not adding more problems by talking about reservation. Until Vipin talked about this subject I didnt go through IIT Website to find the caste of individuals and I actually found 17/38 people excluding Vipin are surely not brahmins. This can be found by surnames. I am not sure about more peple. But this Information is not being expressed by Vipin that there are so many more non brahmins. Secondly once we talk about compartmentalized reservation percentages, we will continue to talk only of caste in IIT . If some faculty feel that quality will be compromised by reservation, I cant find out what is in their mind. However what I know for sure is that for a given position, you are not bringing the best candidate. Lets forget about brahmins. Lets say there are two SC who are very good and only 2 open reserved positions are there. Then are we going to reject one of them because we need an OBC also.. Agree there is a problem in current situation but Anna University type of reservation is also not good. Let us have a more transparent merit selection process, whee we also clearly apply a rule that if two candidates are almost equally good, then the lower caste gets the job not the higher caste. Let the questions that will be asked during selection be reviewed by a comitteee of Backward caste people.

I think you have a misunderstanding that most of the IIT students get free education? The only thing these student get from tac money is Gate and JRF scholarships, and for that they have to work a set hours as teacher's assistant and for JRF on top of teacher's assistantship they have to do research and publish papers. They don't get anything for free. But those are M.Tech and PhD students in IIT and they are very few compared to the B.Tech students who don't get any of these scholarships. I will tell you why very few IIT graduates can afford to even go for higher studies or a start up in India. Because of debt. The fees in IITs are extremely high. Evenif you are the best of Indian brains, most of the students have to take big loans to study in IIT....meaning they have to get a good paying job as soon as possible to pay back the loans. And when they get better paying jobs outside they will take it because they have to pay back the loans as soon as possible. They cannot begin any start up or even think about doing research when they already are in so much debt from those educational loans. So instead of just asking how many of them haven't done anything other than just going for the best paying jobs, try asking why the best minds of India are forced to do nothing but a corporate job.... Ask why there are so many suicide cases of studnets from IITs. Ask why they are so terrified of not getting a placement that they will commit suicide even when they are India's best brains? They are terrified of not getting placed because they are in terrible debt So the main reason why the best brains are leaving India, is because of our governments itself who have set the fees so high that they have push the best brains to debt and thus pushed them outside India for better paying jobs to pay their debt. Ask the government to lower IIT's fees, increase scholarships and make the companies pay better, then the brain drain will stop automatically.

You are right vipin, few years ago, I experienced this during my faculty recruiting process at IIT Madras, it is similar in IIT Bhubaneswar as well, that's my experience in the year 2014. Well, i thought may be I am not fit to become a professor at IIT's, after hearing your interview, i agree that Very high brahaminical partition exist at IIT madras, all the high officials are brahmins ( different states have different surname) as well. I have seen such sort of caste politics there, now, I am happy that i didnt become a part of that, Atleast you took a good decision to come out from such a bad ambient. Go elsewhere make your dream real my friend. Population in India and what you said about economic policy indicates people wants to do all sort of politics to survive , its sad, I just laughed at " when your chief told there is no law exist that a new faculty can give new course ". @@josephantonybrittoa2318 And think of this debate where the upper crust of society has lot more intercaste marriages. If father is OBC and mother is OC, should they get reservation or not? Are we saying mother's Genetic advantage will not make any difference to the advantage of the child. I know atleast 2 cases in my relative circles, where mothers are OC and fathers are OBC. Should they be classified as OBC or not. If they do its a victory for the General caste and loss of advantage to the deserving lower caste. If they dont do it, then its a loss in the number for OBC. Add to the complexity by adding that are increasing divorces as well. My view is get as many deserving and hardworking backwards castes into the system, no matter what their disadvantages are - Language, sex, economy, education level etc, but at the same time dont loose the assets who can help make this country a developed country. You can have the whole country ruled by SC/ST and OBC as the second in rung. But if you loose your intellectual assets to another country because of all these falacious arguments, you will loose the race to development. Look at what is happening to Sri Lanka. We need to survive and be competitive as a nation and make best use of all the assets not ask the eagerly waiting foreign returnees among OC to go back. Today to avoid balkanization we need to survive as a competitive country and which is also inclusive, not loosing of any human assets who can make a difference. We should go beyond percentages, today's percentage is not tomorrow's percentage. Also note that the upper crust is halving with every generation due to lower fertility rate, obviously there would be more advantages to the lower section which is fine, that's nature' smart design. But lets leverage everyone's strength

Why were you recruited in the first place if they have caste discrimination in mind. They could have simply rejected you. In IIT there is no reservation policy in faculty recruitment. You have not experienced caste discrimination. What you experienced could have been experienced by many brahmin faculty in the institute. Some of the decisions are with HODs, it is permitted for some and not permitted for some, it may be because how you put things to HOD. You defame the institute without experiencing much. Why can't you think IIT is sensitive place and it has to take care of its students, so the HOD didn't approve your course till the end of your probationary period

Where is the case of Casteist oppression? It's all hear say and his imagination and his own complex playing out. There are atleast 6-8 people from Christian and Muslim religion in the humanities department. Not to mention other caste people in the rest of the group, just trying to get limelight and make big headlines.
