My wife and I are both active Air Force and I’ve got a bit of important information for dual military couples: First of all don’t rush relationships, military life is very uncertain and you don’t know where you might live a year from now but don’t make that the reason you get married after only a few months of dating. Secondly relationships in the military can be hard especially dual military relationships, I have been with my wife for almost 6 years in that time between deployments, TDYs, and her PCS we have been physically apart for about 3 years, life has a way of complicating things at the most inconvenient times and that has been the case with us for the last 2 years. Finally for everyone who is in a relationship involving a military member, times where you have to be apart due to the nature of the work we do make sure that even while you are away do things that foster a healthy relationship with your spouse as well as any children that are in the picture and when things get too hard use your resources, get in touch with a wingman, a mentor, your chain of command, your unit, the chaplain, the AFRC, mental health, anybody that you think can help.

These two lieutenant colonels are the exception, not the rule. The higher you go, the harder it is to even serve in the same general area, much less the same base. Should either or both of them make full colonel the chances of them being stationed at the same base can go down even more. Knew two lieutenant colonels, different AFSCs, who were glad as heck to be stationed in San Antonio, albeit at different bases. Also factor in staff jobs and professional military education. May have one at the Air War College at Maxwell and one at Langley. Not always easy to be stationed together.

Being dual military is trying to explain to your First Sergeant that your "Family Care Plan" is deployed. 😑

While you are still too young to enlist into the Air Force, it is never too early to start preparing. There are a few things you can do now to prepare for once you reach the require age. First study hard and graduate from high school. Get the best grades you can in all subjects especially English, Math and Science. This will help you improve your score on the ASVAB test which is required for enlistment. Say no to drugs and get an early start on physical conditioning are important steps in the right direction. And stay out of trouble. Law violations can delay and in some cases will disqualify you from joining the Air Force and taking advantage of the opportunities available. Starting early and being prepared are your best shot. Stay in contact with your Guidance Counselor and maybe we will see you in a few years. Don Air Force and Space Force Recruiting Service
