✧ FAQ ✧ 1. On Ranger Tabs, Ranger School is an Army leadership school that theoretically anyone in the military can attend. It is unaffiliated with the 75th Ranger Regiment. However, Rangers in the regiments infantry components must go to Ranger School eventually or be kicked out. All leadership must have Ranger Tabs, but new entries may have not gone and are considered privates. 2. On pistols, all members of the squad are issued Mk27s (SOCOM's Glock 19). However, in practice only belt-fed gunners carry them due to stoppage issues. Unlike the regular Army infantry, this includes M249 gunners in addition to the M240. Everyone else is generally discouraged from carrying one on mission due to the risk of losing it. 3. On the short 11.5" URGIs, Team Leaders are prioritized for it due to their role, but Squad Leaders can pull rank and call dibs on one as well. 4. The regiment has a variety of optics in service that tabs can pick from. My long video on this topic covers it.

ranger school is actually a leadership course, the premier such course the us army offers. as a result its not actually needed by people who are not in a leadership position. you can call yourself a ranger as long as you serve with the rangers, but the tag itself is something you get not through serving with the ranger but through graduating ranger school, the leadership program. many people who graduate that does not serve with the rangers, they can still wear that tag though, its indicative of them being well trained leaders. there would be no reason for a rifleman to have taken such a course, if he had then he would not serve as a rifleman. the riflemen in ranger company have likely had more training than riflemen in other companies have, but not in leadership.

Now it makes sense why i saw so many SGTs in the USDF that were like 21 years old fresh outta school. They were only commanding like three other guys. In most modern millitaries, a SGT has had at least 3-4 years as a PVT, then a 4-5 years for LCPL and CPL before finally being given command of a platoon as SGT after about 9 or 10 years of service.
@yeti_bro_17 күн бұрын
what is USDF?
@opposed2logic12 күн бұрын
thats not true at all. in most modern militaries people do not serve for that long, it wouldnt work to only look for sgts with 10 years of service when thats many many years more than the average person serves. many countries still have mandatory service, this service tend to be around 1-2 years long in those cases. when you have mandatory service for all men you end up with a very large military, how do you expect to have enough sergeants for all of these people if you put a demand on 10 years experience? what matters is not the experience, its the training, because in reality very few soldiers have any actual combat experience anyway, all they have is more training experience, you still cant be sure how that translates to combat. as long as you train your NCO's and CO's properly its good enough, and that is what the standard practice is everywhere. most countries dont have conflicts to put soldiers in to grow experience anyway, and most soldiers dont serve for 10 years. Besides even experience is not guaranteed to matter in the end. Experience in the war in iraq for example may not help you much at all if you were to fight in ukraine.its two entirely different wars, you'd have to learn on the spot either way. your benefit is more so that you've done something similar before than having any directly applicable experience. the difference between two conflicts can be huge.

Fun fact. Rangers have never needed the seals to save them. But not the other way around.
@chaosapple777113 күн бұрын
I doubt this is true as there is no way to verify this, but even if it is true, context is needed. Rangers are a light infantry force. While they can deploy in small groups for QRF or other mission sets, you will rarely see less than 50-100+ rangers deploy for any significant mission. Even QRF's with Rangers will usually be a multi team mission. Usually multiple helicopters or trucks with dozens of guys. And usually with other SOF elements such as PJ's, Tacp's, Seal teams, etc. Seals, on the other hand, are a small DA team of 16 men. The reality is that you wouldn't send in a 16 man team to save an operation with 1-3 ranger platoons involved. You would send a bigger force. But if your small 16 man team comes under heavy enemy contact or under heavy artillery engagement, you would want to send in the bigger force to counteract the opposition. You don't send the scalpel to save the hammer. You send a bigger hammer. Both teams are incredibly important jobs and some serious high-level guys, but they do different things.
@evangaudet12 күн бұрын
What a stupid fact. Why would an extremely valuable asset like Seals be sent in to save a ranger squad? Are you dumb or are you dumb?
@cykeok352512 күн бұрын
@@chaosapple7771 Basically you reinforce with more, not with less, right? Small force to do something quick and quiet, if the plan goes tits up then you send in a bigger force, if that somehow goes wrong you send in a bigger one.
@chaosapple777112 күн бұрын
@@cykeok3525 9 times out of 10 yes. Would you rather have a small team to support you? Or would you rather have everything you can get? You always want a monopoly on your life. This isn't to say there are never times small teams are used to rescue people. But they do it because they can substitute numbers with firepower. Look at SWCC. It might only be 4-5 guys on the boat coming to save you, but that boat has miniguns and automatic grenade launchers. They make up for it lol. PJ's often work with small man teams as well, but they trade firepower and numbers for speed and versatility. It's one of the reasons I have so much respect for PJ's and other rescue units like BORSTAR. Everyone plans for missions to go wrong, of course. But if the PJ's are called in, its because the mission already went wrong. The operation going FUBAR isn't a potential outcome of their mission. It IS their mission. And it's crazy they choose that willingly lol.

How do medics generally fit in during airborne operations? Like during an airfield seizure or something, would we be sticking with a specific rifle squad or just with the platoon sergeant or something? Probably a super simple question but I'm just starting AIT and I'm curious how it works. During BCT they showed us that the RTO in a squad will stay with the squad leader pretty much all the time, but I know medics are different since (I think at least) they generally aren't assigned to specific squads and just move around the platoon as needed
@samg54635 ай бұрын
@@ChickentNugwasn’t a ranger but they’re tacked on as a support element like any other specialist troops. CBRN guys we had attached to us were the same way. They’re integrated into the chain of command but it wasn’t like there’s was one element that had a medic and another that didn’t.
@Supajack8315 ай бұрын
@@ChickentNug This is how things work in the infantry. Lowest unit the medic is assigned to is the platoon. The medic is glued to the Platoon Sergeant (PSG). PSG designates and runs the casualty collection point (CCP) and also conducts medevac when needed, while the medic prioritizes and treats wounded until they can be evacuated. Medics can be detailed to specific squads during operations if needed but usually the platoon operates as a whole unit so that’s not the case.
@defions42085 ай бұрын
@@ChickentNug it really depends on the depth within your company there were times where we had to send 11B to go get more medical training due to our lack of medics for a mission. Most the time you’ll be with the PSG/PL. But Regiment doesn’t really focus on Airfield Seizure anymore that’s more of a regular Airborne mission set. We will train for them but in real life it more than likely won’t be a Battalion doing it. But that could very well change in the future from what I’ve heard. A lot of things will change before our next conflict that’s been in the works.

Except this is a section in basically every other regiment in any Western army. And it wouldn't get commanded by a sergeant. It get commanded by a Corporal. If a sergeant or other higher rank were to be on the section, they'd have to get the Corporal to give out the orders as they aren't usually attached to the section

The concept of an Infantry Section consisting of a Rifle group and a Machine Gun group came from the British reorganisation of the Infantry after the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Each Platoon was made up of 3 sections and a command group, each Company of 3 Platoons plus logistical elements. A Battalion would have 3 infantry Companies and other supporting companies such as Heavy machine guns, Mortars etc.. depending on their role. The new concept along with briefing down to the lowest level was first trialled during the Attack on Vimy Ridge the following year. The impregnable German defences were breached in 5 Hours!

Do Ranger squads also have communications, weapons, and medical specialists similar to a Green Beret ODA or are those guys at platoon level?
@BattleOrder5 ай бұрын
Not in the same way. They have combat lifesavers in the squad and medics at platoon, but they’re set up like an infantry unit. The Green Berets are set up to train foreign militaries so have those specialist NCOs who also act as equivalents to staff officers (S-1, S-2 etc)
@shawnr7715 ай бұрын
Typically a Ranger Platoon in garrison will have 3 line squads and 1 MG Squad made up of 3 MG teams. While out in the field each line squad will have an MG team attached. Other specialized teams such as Anti Armor can be attached per mission requirements.
@nikotaguchi65 ай бұрын
I didn’t know that soldiers could be a part of that battalion without getting their tab
@Supajack8315 ай бұрын
Anti- armor or AT teams are not specialized. They are organic to the unit. Just a bunch of guys who went to school and are either javelin or goose qualified. They are permanent members of the fire teams and squad. Most infantry units, Rangers included will have personnel who are designated with specific duties outside of their base positions. For example, typically the rifleman in a fire team is also your javelin qualified AT guy who will employ the javelin when required to do so.

@@Supajack831 When I was in Dragon and TOW missile operators had their own MOS 11H and they were not part of our squads in garrison. The Battalions AT personnel were assigned to one platoon of the HQ company to consoldate training.

I’m not an Army guy so please forgive my ignorance. But do young Ranger E3s get pushed to go to Ranger school before becoming Cpls?
@BattleOrder5 ай бұрын
I think so, the only time someone mentioned a Cpl to me they were specifically tabbed. But in general new entries should be going to Ranger School within like 180 days. The 75th has tons of slots and they make people who don’t even need it go
@fathead89335 ай бұрын
The likelihood of an infantryman becoming a Corporal is pretty slim. Corporal is used for "we're required to have an NCO, but we dont have the time for the board, people to go, or the MOS in question isnt promoting". Infantrymen are typically specialists and then sergeants because our promotion and manning system is more fluid. Ranger regiment is no different in that. Truly there isnt much difference between them and any other Infantry unit. Training, budget, and strategic mission, being the main differences.

@Lorthvader68714 ай бұрын
And you think the Rangers aren’t expected to do the same? I’m no Army veteran (Navy, non combat actually), but have talked to a few friends that were in, one went to Ranger school but wasn’t a Ranger, (apparently any soldier can request to go to Ranger school, not just Rangers) and another friend was in a Ranger battalion. I can assure you everyone is trained for and expected to take command/be a gunner/grenadier or rifleman at some point, in training or in combat, for bullets and explosives care about no rank. Nothing but respect for these men. .
@Anonymous-hx3pu4 ай бұрын
All of them can do the same shit, it's just that some are better suited for specific tasks than others. Ideally every soldier is a medic, a mechanic, a driver, a runner, a shooter, and a top notch fighter all in one.

@@JustaNobody2004 however with the amount of money spent on training these "units" they should be the best at what they do period. A squad is made up of a leader, 3 rifleman, a support gunner, his aid, and a dmr? If I'm not mistaken. Why wouldn't you want all your soldiers able to use all weapon platforms and be ready for anything in case of emergency.

Outside of equipment, Ranger squads are set up the same as other Light Infantry. A couple of key differences are that the Automatic Rifleman in a standard squad is usually a junior Soldier, despite doctrinally being the most experienced behind the Team Leader, and that due to having understrength units, it's not uncommon to see E-4 and even E-3 Team Leaders, with E-5 Squad Leaders. You'll also see regular units that lack a Rifleman or have the Team Leader double as Grenadier.
