He lies, there was no full auto m14 in the Vietnam war, all was locked on semi auto. Also, the last time the US army ordered m1911 was in 1945, so all m1911 in the Vietnam war was 20+ years old, been replaced with other pistols, also the m1917 was the prefered revolver of tunnel rats.

Gunsmith here, the forward assist didnt change the reliability of the M16 pattern weapons. The air force didnt even have a forward assist on theirs. The army wanted one, but you can probably count on 1 hand how many times people have effectively used one to fix a problem. Eugene Stoner even said that if your rifle doesn't go into battery from the force of the buffer spring alone, then forcing the bolt forward will not solve the problem. What made the biggest difference, on top of the new chrome lined barrels, was the powder change. The Army though that using the same type of powder as the M14 was acceptable when in reality, that wasnt the case. Most people dont know this, but there are dozens of types of gunpowder, and the kind used in the M14 was ideal for that platform, but caused the gas system in the M16 to be clogged, which meant no gas would push on the bolt, essentially making the gun single action as you would have to cycle it manually every time you fired. Hundreds of Americans lost their lives because someone in the Pentagon didnt bother doing research and just sent things out. Another flaw of the M16 wasnt even the rifle's fault. Someone in Washington thought the M16 was a self cleaning rifle. And while the M16 is relatively low maintenance, and firing the gun does expel a lot of junk from the previous round that was in the barrel, gunk does still accumulate in the gas port, around the bolt carrier group, and in the lower reciever, and long periods without cleaning leads to corrosion and eventually failure of the rifle entirely.
@magdump4456
@magdump4456 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the M16 was known as the gun that pukes on itself every time the trigger is pulled. And yes, you are also right about a pencil Pusher causing all the problems in the very beginning with the ammunition not having the correct powders. People that think a forward assist improve the reliability of the firearm, has obviously never owned an ar15 style platform. If one has to use the forward assist to get the rifle into battery,whatever the problem was to begin with, you just compounded it ten fold by forcing it into battery via the forward assist. The forward assist is basically useless
@LUR1FAX
@LUR1FAX 4 жыл бұрын
Jim Sullivan himself has said the M16 was sabotaged. As for the forward assist: if something is preventing the bolt from going into battery, you're better off clearing whatever is blocking it than trying to jam the case into a likely blocked chamber.
@LUR1FAX
@LUR1FAX 4 жыл бұрын
@algore lier The U.S. military almost never allows their troops to use the M16 on full auto. So you could take a batalion and arm them with semiautomatic AR-15 rifles and they'd be able to do almost anything they could do if they had select-fire M16 rifles. But that's not to say the AR-15 should be banned or restricted compared to other guns. I don't even think full auto should be more restricted than a bolt action rifle. And let me add that full auto does have applications. They're rare, but do occur. And you don't lose anything by having a select-fire trigger group.

The M16 was adopted by the US Army in 1964 to replace the M14, and then it gradually replaced the M14 among other branches. The original M16 was very unreliable and the M16A1 was introduced around 1967. The M16A1 was much more reliable and improved its reputation as a rifle. It used up until the early 80s where it was replaced by the M16A2.

Black Shinobi no, it really doesn't. It is if one of the most if not the most reliable weapons out there, the m16a4 never jams unless there's been factory issues, or something got inside of its system. If it sucked the US which is know for having the strongest army in the world wouldn't be using it from the 60s till today.

They also had another shotgun, which was an Ithica slam-fire shotgun, which made it possible to have a higher rate of fire than normal and because its fired shells were ejected from the bottom (no opening on the sides) it was quite reliable and had a notably smaller chance to jam.

Also to Note The U.S. had many leftover weapons from WWII in Vietnam, especially the M1 Carbine, and also the M2 carbine, M1A1 Tompson, M3A1 grease gun. M1 Garands were used but in small numbers by then, mainly by MPs and Reserves. Also many M1 Garands were sent to ARVN. M1918 BARs and M1919A6s were sent to ARVN but also seen at the early part of the war in small numbers by the U.S. the XM177 pattern of rifles was also in use by Special forces, mainly MACV-SOG, but also could be found among normal ground troops. Sometimes old Mk2 frag grenades could be seen when in desperate need of Fragmentation grenades. M72 Rocket launchers were used, and M9A1 an M2 flamethrowers.

Rosen06 It looks like all of the ones included in the video were stuff that was commonly carried on a patrol by a standard infantry squad. The LAW was not that common in Vietnam, especially on a patrol. In fact, the military recalled all of the LAWs in Vietnam because the warheads were exploding in flight and sometimes injured the operator. The ones that hit their targets would usually just bounce off without exploding.

But, every AK made from Russians, Check, Slovaks,and Yugoslavs is much much better the only thing That M16 (and other series) have better than AK is that they are lighter and thats it
@vultures7341
@vultures7341 5 жыл бұрын
@Tranhoang Long 1. All researches that show m16 is better are made from Americans (or they're ally's),also can you list any of that research 2. Most of what you said is only on paper but in reality everybode uses and would rather use an AK than an m16 3. If M16 was "so good" like you claim then why did American soliders in Vietnam and sometimes in Korea throw their functional M16 that have plenty ammo and take AKs from the enemies? 4. Did you ever see a test where they use M70B (which is Yugoslav AK) or AK from Russia then torture it,put it in sand and then just clean the cillindar (imnot sure how it spelled) and it works perfectly fine? 5. AK has a bigger and stronger (7,62x39mm) bullet that's better than m16's weak 5.56x45mm bullet
@GunsNGames1
@GunsNGames1 5 жыл бұрын
@@vultures7341 this is a big lie, and during the Korea War, the U.S. Army was using the extremely reliable M1 Garand and Thompsons, the M16 would not exist until 1969. Stop being an useful idiot used by commies.
@Predator42ID
@Predator42ID 5 жыл бұрын
@@GunsNGames1 Actually the M16 existed well before that as it was developed in the late 50s and issued to the Airforce. Also after testing, the M16 is believe it or not more reliable then the older Garand and M14. Also yes the 7.62*39 does have greater stopping power then the 556 which in order to equalize it required the use of new types of bullets when they change the barrel twist to 1/7, from 1/12. However it should be noted the Russians ditched the 7.62*39 in favor of the AK74 later AK12 which are chambered in 5.45mm rounds. AKs are quite accurate if you know what your doing however on rapid fire the climbing is to difficult to control.
