Col. Fettig's work as director should go down in the annals of wind band history as the stuff of legends. The recordings, the live performances, the rehearsal webisodes on KZbin, just fantastic stuff. Looking forward to see what he'll bring to Michigan's storied band program. And to Lt. Col. Nowlin we look forward to seeing you take the ensemble into the next phase of its existence. Good luck, sir!

From an old retired Army musician, congratulations to Col. Fettig for a remarkable career. Lt. Col. Nowlin has a hard act to follow, but given the professionalism of the Marine Band, that shouldn't be a problem. Much success to you, Lt. Col. Nowlin as you pick up that baton and kick serious butt. 🙂

Congratulations to you Col Fettig and LtCol Nowlin on your remarkable work! I am a retired US Navy keyboard instrumentalist, and my youngest son is in his second year as a double bassist for the band. His Mom is a retired US Army helicopter pilot whose second career was as a professional cellist and music educator. We have attended many concerts over the last 18 months, and let me tell you, this is the finest concert band in America, if not the world. Bravo Zulu to all of you for your dedication to your craft and the USMC! Very proud of all of you. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you and and doing gigs in the DMV with several of you. To each and every one of you, I wish you fair winds and following seas!

It was a pleasure meeting Col. Fettig on several occasions. His association with the International Military Music Society - IMMS was a decided plus for the organization. When the Society visited the Marine Band in 2015 Col. Fettig allowed access to the Marine Library for members of the group. His willingness to answer questions and discuss with the members was first rate. In his time with the band he has accomplished many notable projects. Both IMMS and The Military Music Appreciation Society wish him well on his future projects.

Does anyone know what the career path of an officer in the Marine Corps Band is like? Do the directors start out as 2nd Lts and work their way up or are they experienced band directors in the civilian sector and then recruited and given rank as Director of the Marine Corps Band. And when the Directors are relieved, do where do they go from there? Do they retire, take charge of one of the regular bands, move to some sort of command that oversees all Marine musicians?
