My grandfather was on the engineering team for this. I remember getting to see the unclassified blue prints for this after he retired . It was cool having a grandpa that was a civil defense engineer for 50 years . He worked on alot of neat projects in that time starting with the Fleetwing aeronautical fighter dive bomber , then the Bronco , the Lcac , the space shuttle , and ending his career with the Abrahms .

My first LCAC ride was spent sitting in my uparmored 7-ton truck that was chained to the deck. It was 45 minutes of blasting through choppy surf right into the backside of the waiting Bonhomme Richard. [2007, 13th MEU]

Wow man! Just imagine like all the engine switches, fans, exhaust systems all those buttons and instrument panels inside the cockpit? This isn't even a maritime military vehicle most people even know about! It's an outstanding feat of engineering I'd LOVE to pilot that puppy! Amazing.

I see a business opportunity with the LCAC if they ever surplus.. transporting supplies to northern Canada and Alaska is difficult after the ice melt... the LCAC could ferry 1 loaded semi.. or.. better yet.. 2 loaded trailers across the expanses.. would need the tractor at each end..

How high do big hovercrafts get off the ground?
@tony_m_km6mzp2 жыл бұрын
When I was a member of the U.S. Navy Unit that brought the LCAC's on or off shore called BeachMasters Unit One Detachement Western Pacific in the mid-90's, we had to learn the basics of the LCAC. They only get a few inches off the surface of the ground or water at most 6 inches if I remember correctly..
@Gargamoth2 жыл бұрын
@@tony_m_km6mzp I was watching a video where the military was looking for a next generation of these giants. Supposedly they could be lighter with less motors. Maybe that could make hovercraft lift higher. I was thinking instead of fans why not jet engines? That would push a lot of air. Also revamping the hull shape. I think there is definite room for research and development.

They were actually tested going over mines in and out of the water. The air flow is so great it didn't sustain any damage. Were talking about 1,000,000 cubic feet of air per second. Yes per second.

Is that big baby naket. I sees no weapons on her. May I ask why a military vehicle possess no weapons. If so, may I says, that you people sure like living dangerously, or maybe you have not confronting real danger as to yets. So please add some weapons on your military vehicle for your future confrontation. No seriously, just do it. Because everyone in all around the world are doing it.
