I first heard U2 (New Years Day) on the radio in my first car in the fall of 1983.

My sister worked at a record store in the early 80s and scored all kinds of free demo records. Sometime in early 1983 she brought home "War." I heard "New Years Day" and that was it for me. That summer we drove across the U.S. with my family and I had the tape of the album on my Walkman. I probably listened to that record 100 times end to end during that trip. Every song on it is awesome. I was just about to turn 17. They say that the music you listen to between the ages of about 15 to 23 is the most impactful and will stay with you the rest of your life. That's certainly been the case for me.

I got the album October about this time period and was obsessed with it. They had such a completely unique sound, it blew my mind. It's funny when Bono mocks the "poses" of bands, because he is in my top 5 of most awkward front men ever.
