I think this is the first time Tim and Fredo really have no idea about the song's meaning and that's such a very sad reflection regarding today's America education system. You can tell they haven't been taught about history from Judas betraying Jesus with a kiss to April 4th Martin Luther King and his Free At Last speech and assassination! Tim and Fredo, please please go back and relisten closely to that song! Print out and really read the words. It's about what man has experienced and certain people from Jesus Christ all the way to Martin Luther King Jr. have given up their lives for humanity! That's why people are serious in the video. This band's history also is from war torn northern Ireland. Read about what the lead singer Bono has done with world leaders for decades now to advance humanity. Please guys. No joke!

The interpretation I always heard was: "one man caught on a barbed wire fence" are the soldiers of WWII, "one man betrayed by a kiss" is Jesus, "one man washed on an empty beach" is John F. Kennedy, who was washed on an empty beach during the war, and of course "early morning, April 4, shot rings out in the Memphis sky" is Martin Luther King. I realize you're just young men stepping out into the world and there's still so much to learn. But recognize this: these young men from Ireland weren't much older than you when they wrote this song. While they grew up in war-torn Ireland they didn't stick to Irish themes. They educated themselves about what was going on in the rest of the world. This particular song was a tribute to Martin Luther King who fought for the rights of African Americans before being tragically gunned down. The song itself was a massive hit across the world and U2 would soon become one of the greatest forces in pop music and progressive culture throughout the 80's and 90's. In a way they did what you're doing... they reached across cultural boundaries (which is why we love you). Now that you know the story behind it, please give it a second listen, this time with your eyes closed so that you're not distracted by the video. Much love to you both.

As others are saying this is a U2 tribute song to Martin Luther King and when they looked so serious it was because he was singing about the assassination of Martin Luther King by a white supremacist in Memphis. U2 identified with the Civil Rights Movement because of the hundreds of years of suppression of the Irish people by the English. The Irish were oppressed, their rights stripped and gunned down in the streets. Both U2 and the Cranberries (check out Zombie by them) were Irish protest bands who wrote about the troubles in Ireland. A lot of those songs are powerful and good musically. They will remind you of struggles that continue here.

Hair...a Mullet is “business in the front, party in the back!”

Such a great song and a fantastic band. The hair was called a "mullet" and the cut was popular in the 80s. Bono, the lead singer, is quite an activist. He is what a lot of celebrities should become

"Where the street has no name" is a great song and video. They are filming them making a video in downtown LA and the police even shut it down towards the end of the song.

Try “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. That song plays in my head whenever there is violence in our nation. “How long? How long must we sing this song?”

Love U2. I've seen them twice. Shed tears too. Their music is emotional and wonderful. First time I paid $30 (or was it $40 ?) for a concert tee was during their 360 Tour, and I didn't hesitate because they donate so much money to needy people around the world.

This song is awesome live in fact this band is great live. My uncle got me onto this band when I was a little kid and I went to a concert with my aunty and his friend. I then ended up working at their next concerts😁 my request is midnight oil🤣🤣😂

You two young men are so enjoyable to watch for me while I'm on my break at work, I love it! U2 are a wonderful band. This song is about Martin Luther King, Jr. Long live his memory, long live the beautiful land of Ireland.

I really hope y’all do U2’s “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own” someday. Easily one of their best and most powerful songs. So good. For a more classic song though - “One”, one of their biggest hits ever. Especially react to the Chicago 2004 (Elevation Tour) performance, their best ever.

Bono’s voice sends chills down the spine of many all their 80’s songs were great, plus if you wanna here another vocal masterpiece try his vocal on Clannad and Bono doing - In a Lifetime.... short but beautiful

The lead singer, Bono, did play soccer. He married his High School Sweetheart and does lots of charity work to this very day. He has often said he doesn’t think he’s a great singer but I enjoy this band very much. I’ve had the pleasure to see them live in concert and it did not disappoint.

I’ve listened to that song for over 40 years I remember when it came out and I honestly had no idea it was about MLK, or others, for that matter. How would you expect these guys to know that?

"Early morning April 4, shot rings out in the Memphis sky. Free at at last, they took your life, they could not take your pride" Listen again. He is talking about the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Bono was a scrappy street kid from a broken home in Dublin Ireland. He and his pals began this band in the 70s. Been the same lineup since the start and still releasing new music.

You guys should also listen to another song by U2 titled "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." It's definitely a banger!

Early morning April 4th, shot rings out in a Memphis sky. "Free at Last" they took your life, they could not take your pride- obviously about the assassination of Martin Luther King- you guys "why so serious" Maybe you should listen to the lyrics as well as the beat.... but you guys make me smile
