The thing he “won’t do” is cheat on her. That is the beauty of this song. You find out at the end when she is singing that she has been cheated on before, and he says, “no I won’t do that.” And it just gets you right in the feels. Because it turns the whole song around into this beautiful promise.
@cataranneth85174 жыл бұрын
The thing he would not do..is turn her. He is playing a vampire. He does not want to ruin the innocence...the humanity.
@BloodStainedTear4 жыл бұрын
@@cataranneth8517 no actually the op had it correct he won't cheat on her and he's playing more of a hunchback/phantom of the opera character which I'm guessing is symbolic of cheaters being monsters
@ganador134 жыл бұрын
@@BloodStainedTear Actually, the point of the song is in the lyrics. He states the thing he wont do just before saying "i wont do that". I'll never do it better than i do it with you. I'd never lie to you, Id never forget the way you feel right now, I'd do anything for love but I wont do those things. It's common for people to keep mistaking the lyrics but I hope that helps explain it. Also, the character he is playing is just a generic "magical monster with low self confidence". The bed set they used in the video is from the Bram Stokers Dracula film, with a built in elevator to lay on. They also repeated the scene of the three brides from that film.
@MrBarbjhix4 жыл бұрын
According to Wiki, which has a BIG file on this song, this is what is meant my "That" (pasted directly from Wiki) Each verse mentions two things that the man would do for love, followed by one thing that he will not do. The title phrase repetition reasserts that he "won't do that." Each mention of "that" is a reference to the particular promise that he made earlier in the same verse.[6] The four things he says he will never do are: "forget the way you feel right now" "forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight" "do it better than I do it with you" "stop dreaming of you every night of my life" At the song's conclusion, the woman predicts two things that he will do: "You'll see that it's time to move on", and "You'll be screwing around." To both of these, the male emphatically responds, "I won't do that!"

Y'all are the key to the future lil bruhs! I'm almost 40, and I came from a 90% hip hop 10% r&b background. IMO the 90's was the golden era of hip hop. But when I was 17 i got a job at a music store that I worked at for like 5 years. We had to play pretty much everything especially as it became more corporate. My point is that while HAVING to listen to so many genres of music, it really opened up my heart to just the pure beauty of music. I really learned how to not only recognize, but also appreciate something dope, regardless of the genre. It also gave me a history lesson cause by hearing older (for me 60's and 70's music) music I then saw how that current generation of artists were inspired and sampling those older bangers. All this country, or world for that matter, needs is to find a common ground...a common language like music, and maybe we can start to understand each other better. Keep doing your thing and stay blessed.

In the early days of MTV the bands make 'concept' videos. Many times they had nothing to do with the song. They were small movies that were supposed to catch your attention and make you stop and watch. Then, if you liked the song, you would consider buying the LP. About 1985 or 1986, a lot of the bands gave up. It was costly and there are some famous directors who got their start with these videos and are now making major, award-winning motion pictures! Artists would also try to get famous people to appear in the videos...Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, etc. It seems silly now, but we loved those mini-movies! The composer of this song is Jim Steinman. Meat Loaf (singer/actor from Michigan, who legally changed his name to that...yes, he was fat and got the nickname as a child from his father) recorded several LPs of Jim Steinman's work. I was watching one of your reactions and you said you loved storytelling songs. Jim is one of the best. In this song, you have to wait to find out what it is he won't do...which has nothing to do with monsters, it was written as an actual love song. Many times women think that men will say anything just to get sex. If you want to hear a really funny song about the same thing, check out Meat Loaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Anyway, in the end, she feels that she will be 'just another girl' and he will tire of her and start having sex with other woman. He is telling her that his love for her us undying and she is THE one and he will love her for the rest of their lives...he won't get bored with her (he won't do that). However, what I like about you two is how you can really get on top of things. Yes, this was a mini-movie of The Beauty and the Beast. In the early 80s, these were the videos they made. You can imagine a studio putting out the money to pay all the people, the stunts, the locations, the costumes and the make-up, just to promote their artists and hopefully have a number one song and LP. I know they wouldn't do it now, but imagine the fun we had watching all of these!! Check out Tom Petty and Heartbreakers doing Don't Come Around Here No More with an Alice in Wonderland setting! This version gets really crazy. I might, also, point out that near the mid-to-late-eighties, the bands looked back at these and were embarrassed that they did them as they were singers not actors! LOL

OMG Meatloaf - will never forget seeing them back in the day at The Roxy in NYC. The band came on at 1 AM and played the entire Bat Out Of Hell album live. We were standing at the foot of the stage, in amazement and awe as sweaty Meatloaf and the blonde biker chicks sang and acted out the words we knew by heart. They tore it up. You should listen to Bat Out Of Hell - much more lit! 🔥

IslaSkye It was definitely one of the most memorable live shows I’ve ever seen. I laughed when the twins asked “is he a MONSTER??” - because he was a huge, sweaty beast, pouring out the emotions. I think he even rode a motorcycle on stage, but I can’t remember - maybe I’m mixing that up with Rocky Horror ha ha. Speaking of, Time Warp would be a great song for the twins! 😂

@Halfcrowindian4 жыл бұрын
Jess19877 I had 3 kids by the time the 90’s rolled around🤪. Growing up Mom 50’s Dad 60’s. For self- grew up where genres were created😎 MTV didn’t exist😳 Shortly after MTV-was in military. Seen albums/8 tracks go to cassettes then CD’s which is now phasing out☹️. Down time didn’t involve tv,etc. Different generation😊-a time when listening decided on purchase. Miss Kasey Kasum top 100 every week. K, now I just feel old😂😂😂
@Jess198774 жыл бұрын
Halfcrowindian down time not involving watching tv was definitely not a generational thing that was a personal thing for you. I know a lot of adults in the 90’s and even before then did watch tv in their free time.
@Halfcrowindian4 жыл бұрын
Jess19877 thinking you misunderstood my 1st comment; the generation part is: we grew up without tech; tv/videos, etc didn’t influence our likes/dislikes. We made our decisions based on the talent & purchased 8 tracks/albums/cassettes/CD’s which was a direct reflection- even if we couldn’t afford ratings were also based on radio requests. That is the generational divide...
