I just lost my son a few weeks ago... he was 19. He came to us from a troubled background, we did our best, and then some, to help him forget those times and find happiness, and for a while... he did. But, he always had these personal demons he was fighting and unfortunately... they won in the end. This song always reminded me of him and his search for happiness. He knew the world was his... he had so much talent in everything he did, but there was always some longing in him... something always gnawing at the back of his mind that wouldn't let him be satisfied. He never found what he was looking for in this life... I pray he finds it in the next. Daddio loves and misses you mi hito.

@@TheFire-fq8fx This is what it says from Wiki: _"I've always liked gospel music and I encouraged Bono to take it to that place ... It was a very non-U2 thing to do at the time, to go up the street of gospel. I think it opened a door for them, to experiment with that territory ... [Bono]'s singing at the top of his range and there is something very compelling about somebody pushing themselves. It's like hearing Aretha Franklin almost. My dad is one of the biggest U2 fans I’ve ever encountered, he’s seen them in concert 27 times (one time I went with him when I was very little) and every time he saw them he would get a tally Mark tattoo under a tattoo of the Zooropa baby. Over the weekend I finally got a new record player after wanting one for over three years. I went searching in the garage because that’s where my dad keeps his old U2 collectibles, and I found a special vinyl printing of all of the singles that came off of the Joshua tree. My mom told me that my dad used to play this song over my mom’s belly when my mom was still pregnant with me😂 thanks dad for always looking out for me, I love you❤️

i like to believe that the lyrics go beyond finding that perfect someone to fulfill a vacancy into which we are all born. You can't expect love to fill in all the gaps. The song suggests a spiritual quest, a thirst for meaning.

No, not really "better" just different. His range is a bit lower (but not a lot) and he doesn't have the power he use to have in the 80's. But his timbre is better than ever IMO. He's the kind of singer who envolved along his career in term of technic (like Robert Plant for exemple, but with a better range).

SO what is your point? Ah Stevie, eventually we all die, so I don't get your point, unless it is to down grade another human being's success. You should know 'the spirit' never dies it lives on in everything we ever enjoyed and shared. If lived to be 900 yrs old this song would still emotionally hit me the same way reading a classic book does.
