UAD APOLLO TWIN vs SSL 2+ for a second recording solution. I need your help in choosing the UAD Apollo Twin or the SSL 2+.

im be honest bro!get the ssl2!! I've had a lot of interfaces and i loved my apogee duet 2 but id have to say i love my ssl 2 better its powerful as hell, loud, conversion is crystal clear! head phone volume is loud! and the 4k feature is real bro its not hype! and its a beautiful interface you would not be let down its my dopest interface I've had yet

@@ryangarcia9721 you have a monitor mix blend button which makes latency a non issue. Would depend more on your other DAW settings really. I had the apogee years ago it was alright but SSL2 is super clean as well on top of the two fantastic plugins it comes with.

Just got the SSL 2 Tuesday! Shit is nice as hell! Even the D to A converters are better than anything I've heard and I have had a lot of interfaces! It's Nice Bro!

For everything that Apollo UADs offer, they are very good, but by sound, SSL2 is certainly much, much better, the issue is if you really need the services offered by Apollo or if you prefer to sacrifice benefits in exchange for a wonderful sound ... I Personally I have a Zen Antelope, which has all the possible connectivity, added to the DSP that I never really use and of course a very good AD / DA conversion, but I love my SSL2 + and when I have to record for example voices I prefer it for about Antelope ... Por prestaciones obviamente es mejor la UAD Apollo, pero por sonido sin duda la SSL2 es muy, muy superior, el asunto es si realmente necesitas las prestaciones que ofrece la Apollo o si prefieres sacrificar prestaciones a cambio de un sonido maravilloso… Yo en lo personal tengo una Antelope Zen, que tiene toda la conectividad posible, sumado a el DSP que la verdad nunca uso y por supuesto una muy buena conversión AD/DA, pero amo mi SSL2+ y cuando tengo que grabar por ejemplo voces la prefiero por sobre la Antelope… Buen video y se agradece!

@@DJURBANBG The SSL 2 converters are high-end AKMs very good for mixing, but they do not reach the level of those of the Antelope Pure 2 that are specifically designed for mastering.

I like both (the high pass filter on UA is nice). That said, The SSL 2+ is a very....very solid piece of gear. I'd go SSL 2+. I'm on a Mac Book Pro.

Well..... Ihave both. The Apollo X and SSL 2+ They are extremely potent and amazing both! However they offer some different pros and cons. I say buy one Apollo twin MK2 and a SSL 2... Then whatever you need for whoever and whatever purpose and sound needed...Youll have it. And it will sound like the most expensive studio back in the days and better probably. Ive been working on SSL and NEVE consoles / Desks many many years with a lot of outboards...and this truly is my opinion stated above. Hope youll be happy whatever choice you make / made. I bought and Apollo Twin 4 years ago and have always had a lot of intermittent noise problems. Sent it back and they changed the charger, but that didn't solve the problem. Still not sure if it's defective or just fussy... have tried changing cables, etc... and it's still unpredictable. Considering the Apollo is a lot more expensive, I'd say the SSL 2 is looking good and I'm about to order it.

Ssl2+ bro!! Apollo is overrated, also randomly disconnects from my macbook. If you dont have a duo or quad core apollo dont even bother. It only lets u use 2 plugins from UAD before it overloads the processors. & they want you to buy more plugins. Just get a ssl2+ and use waves plugins & youre good.

That's a great question! I am seriously considering swapping my Apollo Twin for a SSL2+ as well, mostly concerned about the D/A conversion of the latter - will it match the Apollo? Please drop an update if you decide to go for the SSL, can't wait for the comparison of those two. Thanks!

picked up a ssl2 and compared to my Apollo, Apollo has unison bells and whistles but the AD conversion on the SSL sounds cleaner regardless of paper specification. wether that is worth more to you than having slightly lower recorded quality but a huge array of plugins on the UA platform and their new Luna daw that the Apollo is a dongle for, is up to you. If it's just the plugins you care about, you can use them with a uad satellite. The only bus powered Apollo is the Arrow which is still underpowered sand twice the price of the ssl2plus.

The preamps and A/D are not what I worry about, because this I can already hear from the YT reviews - rather it is the D/A that I want to thoroughly examine. I'll come back with some thoughts once I tried one myself. Peace!

@@mikolajsluzewski6121 Yes that will be interesting. I have not been to concerned with the DA since I am only using it for mobile tracking input. I use my 8 channel prism Orpheus for round trip ADDA with my SSL 6. It would be interesting to find out more about the DA conversion. you could just ask SSL about wether they use the same level converters for DA but yes trust your own ears with your outboard gear.

Easy decision..for the budget conscious and those not needing the extra i/o. UA is 4x the cost! SSL has good sound and is stable and even comes with 2 SSL plugins that cost $199 apiece.

Spencer Bott I went with the SSL 2+. Great form factor for the desktop and sounds great. When you consider the value of the bundled plug-ins it’s really amazing what’s on offer for the price point.

Ssl2 you aren't tied to Mac. Done. And you get ssl plug ins worth the price of the interface. That uad stuff is way overpriced.

If you compare the price of both, the SSL2 plus will give you much more for the price tag. UAD is overpriced, just ridiculous trying to sell something that does not sound better than the SSL 2 plus, maybe the same sound but not better! Plus the 4K will give you a warm addition of sound recording! What I write here is based on the fact that I own both cards. UAD card adds the plugins which is a better option but not so important if what you search is for sound quality, you don't go wrong at all with the SSL 2 plus

The best interface out right now is the SOLID STATE SSL 2+ way Much Faster with Better Less Latency, over all the Apollo sounds too robottic as the SSL sounds more natural . Its Better uppon Specs too if you do your reaserch online or youtube. Apollo is just a overated gear , you still have to pay for the plugins that can only be used with its interface , waves plugins sound just the same and can be used with any interface and take less CPU power

UAD has zero latency when using plugins, they are DSP powered, when you monitor. SSL cannot do that - it goes through the computer. Also UAD, of course, has pro converters, SSL does not. UAD isn't overrated - it's actually cheaper than many oterh luxury high end interfaces. You;r just comparing an entry level interface to the pro stuff.

sold my Apollo.i liked it but ended up buying hardware versions of my favourite plugins. UA is a front end to and dongle to endless emulations that are very nice but also expensive. You can do both (satellite). I have my stay at home prism for its AD quality. The SSL is very interesting because it's cheaper than some of my old UAD plugins(and the SSL COMES with plugins worth buying the unit for that you will need to buy on the uad platform). To take the most advantage of the uad system you need the quad at least. One thing that annoyed me about my old Apollo is that the plugins don't work unless you are connected to the interface.Fine if you are plugged into a wall all the time but it's not a portable solution. Arrow is but it's single chip is under powered. Check the manual and look up plugins you want to use at once on as many channels to see how many the unit you works like can handle.

@@QuedUpProductions Yes as I see you already have an Apollo, you already know what the universe is like. It is full of great emulations that to me were so good that I considered trying out the actual hardware versions of the ones I looked to purchase. I found that the relative cost of buying plugins over time was poor value in some cases as if you look at some of the updated new releases that you would then need to repurchase if you like them some at some point. It made me rethink the process after evaluating cost of a used hardware version vs plugin costs. Luna will be really cool but the same pay to play. Its a bit like the new subscription video games that have in game purchases. It is a walled garden like the Apple Mac universe. I kept my purchased plugins in case I may one day pick up a satellite as I do like the Studar a800 and ATR tape plugins the best. I have a hardware SSL6 now and I used to have a LA610. I would pick up the ssl2 as a 2nd portable interface that rivals the ua in AD conversion, is bus powered and does not create files I can't access if I am on my laptop on a plane or somewhere without external power. Plus the plugins it comes with are fantastic. The uad satellite will give you the dsp for plugins away from your studio. I love the appolo just didn't like the trapped feeling and not being able to hide plugins I don't own.

On a second note there is a way to reduce the clutter of all the plugins you don't own. That really was annoying until I figured it out in the console software. As far as sorting them in your DAW theres a work around there as well. I might need to drop a video on that. Thanks again

UA wouldn't like that though as the reason that is like that is so that the customers are curious about "trialing"the other plugins for potential purchase after accidently using a plugin in a job mix that you don't own so you buy it. Adding a satellite world let you use the SSL on the road while retaining your plugins.
