Born and raised in Buffalo. Either WINGS or CHICKEN WINGS. And there are a LOT of local places with GREAT wings. Can't go wrong with the wings at a lot of the pizzerias (hot/bbq at LaNova's, are my favorite!). And for beef on weck, you need some real horseradish (not the mayonaise stuff).

I’m an American living in Japan and I’ve been searching for real buffalo wings in Tokyo here . I’ve been searching for 11 years and finally I found a place that actually had authentic wings so I posted it on google maps and the manager answered me and thanked me for the review then told me that the owner of the place is from upstate New York and that’s why they’re authentic. The owner is probably from the Buffalo area .
@JoshDragRace068813 сағат бұрын
Is it just me or has the quality of the chicken wing itself gone down in all of western ny? Not like the sauce or cook, just the chicken quality itself is not good. After 2020 its been way worse imo.
@cojaysea12 сағат бұрын
@ I think a lot of places pre cook wings ahead of time then just warm them up , pour sauce on them and serve them . I worked in a restaurant in New York for a while and a huge batch of wings were pre cooked then left in a huge refrigerator. When someone ordered wings a few would be taken out then re cooked and served . French fries are often prepared this way to cut down on time . This is what happens when something becomes popular.

Current buffalo resident of over 30 years here. Anchor Bar really is the Pat's and Gino's of our city as you said. Duffs is an all around favorite here and standard to judge any other wing around here. Notable favorites as of recent are Bar-Bill Tavern, Elmo's and Wingnutz if you have the time and want to try the best trifecta in wings here.
@davidconley62674 сағат бұрын
Took my family to Niagara for a vacation from KY (I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley). Duffs was the first place we had wings, and went to Anchor bar a few days later because we were tourists. We all agreed we liked Duffs more.

The naked wings are deep fried twice. The first time for about 20-25 minutes at 225 degrees. The second frying is at 400+ degrees for 2-4 minutes. First frying gets the interior meat hot and juicy. The second frying gets the wings exterior (skin) very crispy without drying it out. Mmm!

Truthfully, those wings are overcooked. Two things you need to look for when looking at wings. If the bone is that red/purple-ish colour, then they have been frozen. These aren't which is good, however the other thing is to see if the bone breaks when you are eating the wing. When the bones break while eating wings, it's an indicator that the wing has been overcooked.

Probably should have gone with 'hot' over 'medium' and you would have enjoyed the wings, thats typically how most Buffalonians get the wings, 'hot', except at Duffs, where they use a different brand of Hot sauce, where at Duffs you go with 'medium'... the bleu cheese is always a counter to the hot spice, and au jus perfect call on it where it helps take away from the salted roll.
