As an Uber driver myself MY only advise is FIRST to speak up and say hey your missing all the exits why are you doing that. Second is you can alter the final destination during a trip I would just set up something close by and say drops us off here instead there has been a change of plans. IF that doesn't work tell them I DEMAND to pull over and let me out or i'm calling 911.

How about don't do ANY of that except change your destination and get out asap. OR just get out at a light or stop sign. Don't EVER ask or tell a possible predator what you're going to do, you can anger them and make the situation worse. KEEP ALL YOUR ESCAPE PLANS TO YOURSELF!

Personally i am confused with yhe popularity of uber. Taxi drivers go through a stricter process and pay a lot of money for their taxi licence. And you get intona validly marked licenced taxi. While the ssme thing can and has happened with taxies, you would find its less likely to happen qnd greater security... i think uber is a ridiculous service that introduces a higher level of risk and danger... yea a taxi may cost a bit more but then,i think it's worth fo r extra piece of mind.....

FAQ: I’m answering a lot of these in the comments so I’m putting them here and not replying to anyone asking the same question Q: why didn’t you call the police/use the emergency button? A: we didn’t realize we were missing exits right away. I was filming to show my friends that we were being preached to, and by the time he told us he was missing the exits he turned at the next exit. I don’t use Uber often, was not aware of an emergency button. Q: why didn’t you tell him to stop the car and get out? A: we were on the freeway in an unknown area. There was a lot of homeless people under overpasses and three young people with luggage along the side of the road isn’t a safe situation either. Q: why did you leave your friend in the car? A: Tori was the one who told him to stop the car and let us out as he was about to miss our terminal. She stayed in the car willingly, she could’ve gotten out. We did not feel like he had the intention of harming us, just preaching and prolonging the ride. UPDATE 4/19/19: Uber is investigating the profile of the driver after I let them know I was going through the police department. The trip has been fully refunded, 20 days later. This video was shared with them as evidence. I know this video is super off brand for me, but I feel like I needed to share my experience because it was so whack. Also, please note that Texas is a one party consent state, so I was within my legal rights to record his voice without asking his permission. I also have nothing against religious people whatsoever, it's great that he was so passionate about his spirituality but what was exhibited here was completely unacceptable.

The Gaming Queen's If you’re ever on a situation like that with a weird person or a stranger in general, don’t do that because you never know what may trigger them or if they have anger issues. A guy died a couple months ago because barely rear ended a car in front of him. He just barely hit it, and at a low speed. Well the guy he hit got off and walked up to his window, so obviously the guy puts his window down since now they probably have to deal with each other’s insurance etc. well the guy who got hit proceeds to punch him, pull out a knife and stab him several times. He died. People are way too crazy out there

When you're in a situation that you feel is unsafe, sometimes your instinct is to not provoke the driver. They could have realized that asking him where he was going may have provoked the driver and so they could have been afraid to do so. Hindsight is always 20/20, but when you're in the situation, sometimes you just act on instinct. Either way, they should have been fully refunded. The driver turned down the GPS, so he clearly knew he wasn't taking them to their destination for a portion of the ride.

As a Christian myself, I can firmly say that no true Christian would do what Tony did, especially while expecting to please God. This is why we have such a bad name nowadays. People go around pretending to be Christians, when their actions do not reflect that of a model Christian in the first place. Tony is not what I would call a Christian. Agreed! There is a time and place to discuss our beliefs and true Christians know that doing so during our work activity doesn't reflect all that well upon us because it shows a disrespect for the responsibilities that our job holds at the present time. This is horrifying! I don't agree with those in the comments suggesting anyone act in an aggressive or confrontational manner. In my experience, people who think they have a religious obligation, or calling-from-God, will only think they are in the right, and it's evil forces causing you to act in response. This is goading, and could be even more dangerous. In my opinion, when you realized you were in trouble, it would have been better to dial 911, with your phone sound as low as possible, and when someone answers, start asking him clearly, "Why are you missing our exits?" "Where are you taking us?" "Why do you feel you need to keep us in the car, rather than taking us to the airport?" "Why are we going down X street? Because you think God told you we needed to be saved?" "What kind of car is this; a ? I like the color; is one of my favorites for cars." Tone should be calm, and I think you did well with that. This lets 911 hear you need help, and gives the possibility of getting help yourself, since you are giving instructions. Just my thoughts. It definitely makes me consider exit strategies for myself.

Young ladies often feel like they should be polite and not hurt the man’s feelings, but you have every right to tell the man to stop the car and let you out anytime you feel unsafe. This drivers actions weren’t only inappropriate, they were criminal! If Uber isn’t taking this seriously, then make them. You may want to contact the Dallas news stations and see what their thoughts are on doing a story about this man and also Uber’s unwillingness to take more serious and immediate action. This man isn’t going to stop his behavior. He most likely feels he is following God’s orders. What if they next passenger he picks up is alone and not as polite as you all were. What if he believes God is telling him to harm the person or not let them go until they agree to his demands. This man needs to be stopped immediately.
@Stokedhavok5 жыл бұрын
Nicole Espey Very well said. My read on this may not be popular as it may be perceived as a tad extreme, but this is how I honestly see it. To me this truly felt like forced religious/ spiritual extortion: “Dedicate extra time and money to me, essentially against your will, so I have more of a thorough opportunity to convert you”. This is also an issue of consent since she only consented to be conveyed to a specific destination in a reasonably timely manner, not to be prostilyzed to by someone representing a private company which is in no way affiliated with a particular faith. This was wholly (no pun intended) inappropriate on his AND Uber’s end. If he insists on so passionately witnessing to his passengers, he should first ask for their permission. AND he should ask if they’re okay on spending the extra time and money it would take to do so. Then he should be sensitive enough to perceive even the hint of hesitation on their part and respond accordingly (since a person can agree merely to be polite when they don’t really mean it). Also, even though she may be a legal adult in terms of her age, he is significantly older and has more life experience and is technically in a position of authority, so the onus shifts more to him to keep this interaction professional and only Uber service-orientated. Even if those parameters were met, this would still feel so inappropriate regardless. He should be in a church-affiliated setting. The fact that he’s not, plus what he himself said, really makes me feel strongly that it’s directed religious blackmail on his part. He’s purposely in a service where strangers are forced to be in close quarters to him for a certain amount of time, so he has plenty of opportunities to bring lost “sheep” astray from the “flock” back to “God” the all-holy “Shepherd”. He is completely preying (and praying!) on his passengers, seeing them as possible targets of indoctrination; he is doing this by taking advantage of the very virtue that we are all socialized to be polite and agree to certain things we may ordinarily reject out of an ingrained duty (that’s misplaced and misused in this instance) to show respect and consideration for the different perspectives of our fellow humans. This whole situation makes me feel so uncomfortable and uneasy, and I’m thankful Uber finally took it serious, and based on her updates, it looks like the police are at least taking it serious enough to hear what she has to say about it.
@Gorillaz2love5 жыл бұрын
For me it wouldn't be so much politeness but more of a "i don't want to talk back or call out my potential killer/kidnapper and make the situation worse" kind of thing. @chelmastly58025 жыл бұрын
Autumn Breeze it isn’t necessarily the problem, though. Despite the obvious risk, Uber is a company that promises at its own discretion a safe taxi service. People use taxi services every day, all over the world. Uber even takes the step to do criminal checks on its drivers, so this man most likely never committed a previous felony. There was most likely no way for Uber to tell he was dangerous before this happened. The problem is that this man is obviously disturbed and has no track record, so there was just no way to tell. Despite it being an extra safe precaution to just not use taxi services, it’s very convenient for lots of people.

This is insane. I live in Dallas, TX and I uber sometimes. I never experienced anything like this and if I had I would of been really scared. I can not believe how Uber handled this situation and was disrespectful enough to say "Sorry your driver missed a turn". They need to fire him and not let him drive for Uber anymore and refund your entire money back AND give you extra credits for a free ride on top of the full refund! This guy needs to be fired and probably suffer some legal consequences. He totally kidnapped you! Who knew if he was going to take you to the airport or not! There was no way of knowing what was going through his head, what ideas he might of been having when he was going AWAY from the airport.

4:25 he said pharisees and sadducees. As a Christian, this guy definitely is in the wrong. If he wanted to share the gospel with y'all during your uber ride, he should have stayed on the route, or just show love through actions. Definitely not the right way to go about it AT ALL.

Why not use the emergency button if you felt uncomfortable with this driver? Why not call personally to talk to a real living human being after the ride? Uber has many, many, many drivers throughout the US who are constantly picking up and dropping off one person/s group then another. Uber SHOULD be held accountable, and should revise their hiring system to minimize such horrible unsafe drivers. However lazily leaving a complaint about such a serious situation via a msg at first (which is sadly what most do) but isn’t at all what we should keep doing, real people could be picked up by someone as bad as this guy right after you or someone even worse than this guy... and they will be, because the problem lands not just with the driver or the company, don’t get me wrong 90% of the issues are the company’s responsibility,.. however the users of Uber have some responsibility to keep other users safe from the same unsafe occurrences by simply doing what’s right even if it takes another 20 mins away of their time. What to do in a uncomfortable or dangerous ride 1. Be as polite and calm as possible under the circumstances 2. secretly voice record for proof, do not point your phone at said driver Incase they loose their shit and endanger you further 3. If you feel you are in real danger of being harmed in anyway press the emergency button 4. Continue to stay calm and polite until you stop at your destination, if the driver is not stopping or you are in danger and pressed the emergency button remain calm till the police arrive do not let the driver know the police were called in by you. 5a. If you’ve managed to arrive at your destination make sure you are in a safe public location before collecting all your proof, info, and concerns to make a case against said driver. Once you are ready call the police first if said situation is serious before finally calling Uber with all info needed to clearly explain the severity of the situation, share all proof of any wrong doings said driver did, and state “I require a FULL refund AS WELL as said driver -blank- to be temporarily suspended until a case against them is settled properly.” 5b. If the situation was extremely unsafe and police were called in while still in the vehicle once police have arrived and you are safe you will need to share all the info you can with said police officers including any threats, odd behaviors, everything caught on tape etc before contacting Uber In which you would need to explain exactly what you did with the police, all info needed to clearly explain the severity of the situation, share all proof of any wrong doings said driver did, and state “I require a FULL refund AS WELL as said driver -blank- to be temporarily suspended until a case against them is settled properly.”

I had something eerily similar happen with Uber in Salt Lake City. The driver took a route that was out of the way and he made me physically uncomfortable with his anti-gay comments and preaching. He made a few crude jokes and when we finally had the balls to call him out on going out of the way he finally took us straight to our location. And same thing the uber was twice as long and twice as expensive. So sorry this happened to you

Wow. This guy's voice makes me shutter. Very creepy. "Surrender to Him"... someone needs to be "saved". Long pauses and almost monotone and void of emotion. Umm, sounds like a script from a serial killer. You didn't mention to Uber at all that this man kidnapped you - purposefully missing exits until he realised you had noticed and decided to turn around. All in the while you thought you were going to die. They would've given you a whole refund if you'd worded it this way and sent pictures as evidence.

I agree. I was about to comment that as well. I have seen similar situations like this before. I bet he probably is not even that religious, he does it as a front to pull people in, and the only reason he does it is to add time (money) etc. It's not ok what he's doing, and no doubt it is scary, I just feel maybe his motive wasn't to hurt anyone, it was just to get that coin.
