Also another good way of dealing with angry and aggressive people is agree with them on what their mad about, regardless of whether or not you personally believe what your saying. It usually deflects their anger from you/your car to what ever it is that their mad about.

I haven't been doing this for too long, but I have had a couple of situations where the destination was ultimately entered wrong by the passenger who is intoxicated. I always re-confirm several times to make sure the destination is correct before starting the drive. The last thing you need is a drunk passenger to get mad at you for something that you never did. Just helps minimize any problems and get them to where they need to go quickly and efficiently.

If a woman were to ask me if she wanted to invite me to her place, and I've yet to go on a date with her, I could give her my phone #, and ask her if she might be interested in going on a date. But I like what Uber Man did, in turning down the offer to go for a "quickie". I wouldn't feel safe, as I wouldn't know what might have happened to me if I'd gone with her. Dealing with passengers with attitude, I admit, would be hard if I were driving professionally. That said, I believe that keeping quiet and being respectful would work more in my favour. I believe only a tiny minority of passengers would threaten physical violence, although I admit there are those passengers who are prepared to cause trouble.

Thoroughly impressed with this video. It's evident you are very well read and can handle yourself. I've only had 1 such person in 250 rides. I didn't know until he was already in my car that we would order me to "wait" for him and "not drive off" while he made a "transaction" at a party. I took the high rode and kept my words to a minimum. Once he was out of my sight (and in the house) I placed his belongings on the curb, ended the trip and drove off. That bastard spilled in my car but I fell more fortunate that I left him and did not further jeopardize my safety being in the wrong side of town after midnight with a drug dealer.

As a woman who has been asked to go into hotel rooms I play the "What? I can't hear you" game. I also have a pepper spray that I can get to very quickly. What's usually funny is when I pick up air force men. They want to mess with my radio and stuff. They don't like not being in control. So, I ask them directions. That distracts them and helps them feel in control. Also, I have a small crate of downtime stuff to do that I leave in my passenger front seat. I write as I wait for a call. So, they usually get in the back which helps. If there are 4 people, I can put the stuff in my trunk.

Hey Randy, I had my first drunk passenger tonight, at 7:00 pm! I'm thinking... w haaaa t !!!??? Took me a few minutes to realize he was drunk because #1 it was soooo early and #2 he came out of a restaurant and not a bar. He was pretty nice and very friendly. I realized right away to be very, very sweet and sympathetic with him. There for a second I thought he was going to hug me while I was driving. Lol ! He was a very big man. Tall, solid, and, well, if he had wanted to he could have pounded me into the floorboard of my car with his big bear paws with one pound! Luckily he didn't do that. Also, I don't think you were in the wrong with punching that drunk guy, he swung at you first! You responding back by punching him is acceptable in my eyes. You were protecting yourself. Great info! I wish Uber would add a simple but small "Call Police" button that provides our coordinates to the local authorities. Regardless of how aggressive and threatening pax can be, we as drivers don't have the legal leverage to go force for force to psycically remove them if they start becoming violent towards us. Therefore having this small"Call Police" button on the Partner app will be our "or else what" if they do not comply.

A good thing to have for yourself is while your phone is mounted in your car (preferable windshield) to where yourself and your passenger(s) can view where you're going, between rides make sure your angle is good and just record video of that entire ride as you're going. If the ride is fine then just delete the videos at the end of your "shift." If anything bad happens you have the video for reference plus when you're between apps the passenger will never know they're being recorded.

Hello, great video but the music did kill it. I'm driving in the San Diego area and intoxicated folks are very laid back and fun, so far. I'm a Uber Plus driver in a Mercedes C300. I get a lot of uberX passengers and just love the idea of a "Benz-O" picking them up. I always do a quick clean up of the car in between passengers depending if they leave the smallest hint of a "mess" and finger prints all over the windows. I receive many dirty looks from cab drivers and fellow uber drivers in smaller cars but I don't let it get to me. I keep professional and help out as much as I can. I agree with every word of your advice and if people insist on driving at night and picking up drunks, your advice would be very wise indeed. After driving for Uber for over six months now I have managed to maintain a high rating simply by driving ONLY in the daytime hours. Yes I know I'm missing out on better money with larger fares at nighttime picking up drunks but after doing the simple math, I don't feel that it is worth all of the risks involved. Let's examine the risks: The possibility of violence The possibility of physical injury The possibility of lawsuits The possibility of being arrested depending on how you choose to handle a belligerent drunk The likelihood of LOWER RATINGS that you did not deserve but received simply because the person was an angry drunk Possibility that you pick up a drunk female who accuses you of something you absolutely did not do and potentially gets you into a lot of trouble...because let's be honest, in today's society people tend to believe the female's side of the story....not the man's. The possibility of a bad accident caused by an overly aggressive drunk in your car who decides to get physical with you while you're going 50 to 60 mph. I probably haven't even listed all of the risks but the ones I have listed are more than enough for me to make it a policy never to drive late at night picking up drunk people. IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT

I've also found that being submissive works best. I've had people that are very rude, and disrespectful. I simply think, if it's a short trip that it's going to be over soon, and I give them a 1 star rating, and move on. I've also recently had a passenger whom refused to put on his seat belt. I said, I can keep this going for as long as it takes you to put your seatbelt on, and the other passengers will be really irritated at you. Second option is that you can choose to go home using another method. He finally buckled up.

I had my first bad experience driving with Uber last week. I was picking up a drunk man from a bar. He slurred his speech and barely understood what I was telling him half the time. He told me to take him to his hotel, which I assumed was the address he gave me. I told him the address he gave me and asked if that was where he wanted me to go. He said yes. I take him there, there was no hotel in sight. I start getting confused and he starts getting mad. I remind him that we were at the destination he gave me. He told me, "You're the Uber driver! Figure it out!" I didn't know what to do and tried to end the trip. Before I ending the trip, he gave me what I assumed was his business card and there was an address written on it. I tell him the address I was putting in and he told me that was where he needed to go. I go to that address and that was the wrong one. At this point, be becomes beligerent and cusses me out. He was throwing insults at me saying things like, "Is it really that hard for you to put an address into a phone!?" I had enough. I have driven drunk people home before, but never gave me this much trouble. I told him that this was the address he gave me. He keeps verbally attacking me. I end the trip. I was collected but firm when I told him to get out of my car. He refused and kept pressuring me to take him to his hotel. He gives me back the card. I realized that was a hotel card and find the right address. I couldn't put it in my Uber app because I already cancelled the trip. I use my Waze app and drive to the hotel. Along the way, he keeps insulting me and told me that I had no right to tell him to leave. He told me that he wants to fight me because of it. He even touched my arm after saying that. I am becoming scared but keep driving and interact with him as little as possible. We finally get to the hotel. He tells me how much of an idiot I am and need to "grow a brain" and how I shouldn't drive for Uber. I just wanted him to leave. He eventually did. I give him one star and report him both orally and in written form. The Uber support lady even apologized that I had to deal with him. Upon my request, she made sure I wouldn't be paired up with him again. I hope this guy gets denied services with Uber.

Hey Uber Man Randy, Just started Uber first night in my area. I live in the city. Great people I met...I told my best friend that it's like going around and picking friends up lol. Last ride of night was a rude drunk guy telling me EXACTLY how to drive for 10 miles. I couldn't wait to get him out of the car! Anyway, don't know where I was going with this.... I work 2 other jobs and this is exciting and every person was cool but that one. I watch all your videos and was thinking about starting KZbin videos to join you fellow Ubers. Just not sure what to talk about yet. Happy Ubering. My first rider tipped, the rest didn't but I like it so far. I drop off near the college bars then log off and drive back to the "nice area". Trying to avoid the drunk college kids that want a ride half a block. Question: on the trip history, where it shows the cost of the trip. Is that our pay or before Uber cuts? Thanks! Jessica

As a (very) young lady uber driver, I don't drive at night because of this issue. I'm tired of missing out on surge pricing! So could you give me any tips on if this were to happen to me? I drive around my college campus and the people I pick up are very respectful but that could change once they are intoxicated. How should I handle drunk aggressive men if they were to get in my car? Also if they cross the line and I kick them out of my car, they'll most likely give me one star and mess up my average. Could I call uber and explain the situation to get my average back up?
@jasonman15158 жыл бұрын
+Miranda McKinney This goes back to your safety. YOU are liable to yourself and to others. I have friends that are U.D. and they deny giving them a ride. Due to you can't deny by what my friends tell me, they still do it. Be safe and be smart. And if Uber contacts you for any reason for denying. Let me back up real quick. This is what my friend does, he/she gets a picture of what they look like and how intoxicated they are and then decline he/she service of driving. Then once Uber contacted the driver, in such my friend, he/she sends an email and stated that this person was so intoxicated that I do not want to be liable for any situation that will occur under my supervision.

Stryc9Nine I have only had 700 rides given. 2 of those rides sucked. Those are good odds. When you first starting out, drive mornings instead of bar close. I can't stand driving 11pm to 4am. I just don't do it anymore. Drunk people rate you lower too. Good luck. Have fun.
@GreyGhost-r4z7 жыл бұрын
Stryc9Nine I use to use Waze GPS, but switched to Google maps because it updates faster and shows you satellite views on the map vs, Waze which is like driving in a cartoon. Also watch out because Google maps algorithms do not recognize One-Way streets. Google sometimes directs you to turn down wrong way streets. Have fun. With every passenger pretend you are driving your grandma. Nobody would scare their grandma. 😊 with their driving habits. The most difficult thing is not to yell at people who piss you off in other cars. Lol. Get a mount for your phone. Http://RamMounts.com. Top of the line mounts.
@GreyGhost-r4z7 жыл бұрын
Stryc9Nine it's hard. Lol. I'm usually so busy talking to the pax asking them about their life. Another really funny thing about driving is that you meet people that you WANT in your life. You just get the vibe that they are Positive people, but you are running a business and can't or shouldn't interfere in their life, so that is a downside. I use to think that only about 3% of the population was nuts, but after driving for almost a year, you get to experience the best and mostly the worst in people and it will change you on your outlook of the World. I realize now that we live in a sick and twisted World where the name of the game in life is what you can get away with and not get caught versus living a life of virtue and a level of moral decency. Not that I was shocked, but seeing it everyday you realize the World is still the Wild Wild West.
@GreyGhost-r4z7 жыл бұрын
Stryc9Nine you give people rides who are positive people. Mostly women. You will drive people that you find pleasing company and you feel you might hit it off. But you realize they are in your car going about their life and that does not include you. Uber pax are some of the rudest people on the planet. Some are great others treat you like you are beneath them. Lyft pax are more fun than Uber rides. For me, that's a fact. I always thought about 3% of the World were self absorbed assholes. That 3% figure is about 30%, and that figure climbs up with the amount of alcohol consumed.

This happened to me a couple times and each time I just say no to them. I don't like breathing in the smoke and I also don't want the car to smell bad. I always get the excuse "The other Uber drivers let me". I don't know what the official Uber policy is nor have I seen or read anything about it.

If you perceive that the situation is out of control and only going to get worse - the driver activates the device, pulls over, yells "The Car is On FIre".. and get out of the car taking the keys with you. Once they bail out, the driver gets back in to "see where the fire is" and just drives away... ???

Women drivers often have an extra issue here with sexual assault worries. Those kind of men LOOK for signs of weakness or submissiveness! Personally I'd say to females: Being quiet -- yes! Respectful -- yes! BUT if that doesn't de-escalate them and they get too suggestive or aggressive then it depends. I'd say, if you're not in a very populated place act STRONG and absolute, and as much without emotion as possible until you can get to where other people are. When other people are around pull over and get out! DISTRACTION can work for a time also, but as soon as ANYONE is around outside of the vehicle pull over and get out ASAP. If you can, don't alert him that you're going for help. Tell them you gotta check a tire or get some medicine out of the trunk or something so they won't try to restrain you. Summon for someone to stay with you if there's not a lot of people. And CALL 911! After all possible danger is gone. Contact Uber. #1 tho to women LISTEN TO YOUR "GUT"!!! If you feel a dangerous vibe get the hell out of the situation as best and quickly as possible!!!! Period!!! Thanks uberman! sorry for my long rant/addition

This is some really great advice I had to kick my first customer out of my vehicle today and now I'm very concerned as to the hell they're going to bring against me. The woman in my passenger seat was becoming so aggressive that I could not even concentrate on driving anymore. I dropped them off about a block from the police station. Now I fear of the hell that they're going to raise with Uber support and potentially losing my account. Am I overreacting with fear or do I really have reason to be worried.

Your best advice was at the end of your video! :D Of course, as a man, you spent way... too... much.... time... talking about the 'inebriated' female passenger. The EXACT rules apply for both sexes. UBER does offer code of conduct rules and advice for drivers, although I think you now have to call. Common sense is the best. NEVER touch a passenger. Male or female. Now boys, remember, any touch of any kind, even assistance to get out of the vehicle, to a woman who is drunk can be turned on you as inappropriate contact resulting in sexual assault. Do not engage with drunk passengers of any gender. And Randy, you're right on. go to a convenience store, well lit public place or cop shop where there are witnesses to have either the woman or man removed from your vehicle BY LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY. Have the area numbers on speed dial and the classic dash cam. Great videos, just... wrap them up and stay on topic. You rock. **NEVER TOUCH A PASSENGER**

That's retarded. So I'm assisting a women/girl out of the car and she can sue for inappropriate sexual conduct?. That's so fucked up
@OfficialMyxomatosis9 жыл бұрын
+Danger Dane - Nice choice of words.Your 'assumption' is not "fucked up". It is the law in the majority of all states. And not just for women. *Men as well.* Also, it is not frivolous litigious action. The rider, regardless of gender, can *contact the police and file a report of a sexual misconduct*. How the police and local legal system pursue the claim has nothing to do with the "woman/girl" suing. It is in complete control of the city/town/county/state.

Europe is different than America. Agreed for sure! I love the customer service I have received every time I decided to use a car service. Which I usually do. Especially at night and along the Côté d'Azur HOWEVER, *I never had a chauffeur use so many profanities!* Good Grief you swear like an American! Represent yourself better. At least *for yourself*. :)

I picked up 3 ritzy passengers last night and the big guy sat in front and he turned up my radio and started doing the drums slapping his hands on my dashboard where my airbag is. I didn't know how to react. I was laughing and kind of just going along with it being amused that he was having a good time but also concerned that... I don't want someone touching my components or what if the airbag would have deployed? That would have pissed me off. How should I have responded?

I'm just about to start driving for uber and lyft... with these aggressive drunk guys, what if you said something like, "Hey man, it looks like you're having a bad day- that sucks. I'm more than happy to drive you home... are you gonna be chill so that I can?" Or are these aggressive drunk guys just so out of it to the point that all judgment is gone and they've gone "primal" with the anger and cannot reason or process what you say to them? Thanks!

In my opinion, a driver should carry a pepper spray or a stun gun for self defense. After the ride is over, then the driver should rate the bad rider a 4-star or less b/c most of the bad behavior.

What if people kick your car when you refuse to take them. Can you report them to über and get their details for your insurance?
@AutoAuctionRebuilds9 жыл бұрын
+Danger Dane Uber has a $1K deductable for that kind of damage. But sure.
@TNFSDK9 жыл бұрын
+Uber Man deductable as in you having to pay that before they cover?
@OfficialMyxomatosis9 жыл бұрын
+Danger Dane Yes Dane, that is what a deductible is. You pay out before they kick in. The only way to avoid this is to change your personal auto coverage. You will need to contact them and explain your Über "insurance" (ridiculous), and see what they can offer to fill the gap.
@yaazizoful8 жыл бұрын
+Danger Dane go to a good shop that you're comfortable with and they'll incorporate the deductible into the final price for the repairs. Source: personal experience.

You're right about that but if you don't do has they say they will give you a back rating and they will lie or drunk driver lied to Uber and tell him I was drunk and they block my account for 48 hours I couldn't make money for 4 days shaking my head it's so sad the guy was just drunk and he wanted me to take him to pick up a prostitute I refuse I told him that was illegal and I wasn't going to do that so he decided to email Uber and tell him that I was drunk and I lost like $400 I couldn't work for 4 days

you know I am just about to start uber, I am signing up this week and have a new car for it...so I was telling my insurance broker while getting my full coverage insurance( he is a friend so no problem asking) that I was going to do uber with my car and I asked how much would it be for a commercial insurance just to have an idea , he just roughly calculated it could be 50% more of what I am paying now... I will consider paying more instead of dealing with the rejections and maneuvering paper work of that web with Uber after listening to your video ...what do you think? maybe is tax deductible as a business?... anyways ,I been watching few of your videos for great information and you have a fan here. thanks... by the way, big question for me is ,do I need Uber`s phone or not? or can I use mine to drive and avoid monthly fees and deposit? thank you .
@AutoAuctionRebuilds9 жыл бұрын
Frank C I use my own phone, and the data usage is negligible for me. As for insurance, please email Uber support first, I have heard of Uber terminating people for having their own commercial insurance. Those may be rumors, but I'd check first. Maybe, go out, try it out, and if you make good money then get the commercial policy? Either way, thanks for watching, I appreciate you, and check with Uber first.
