Only a fool would underwrite the insurance of this and you would be a fool to trust your life to this especially if your drunk and can’t legally intervene with the machine once it fails

Uber has language in their license agreement that does not allow the rider to sue in case of an accident. Robo-taxis will probably adopt the same language.

Robocab removes driver and still manages to cut the number of seats in half compared to a standard uber. Brilliant.

As a Tesla fanboy who owns two recent model Teslas, upon watching the Tesla “We, Robot” event I was horrified at the CyberCab’s design. It seems that in its zeal to solve self driving Tesla has forgotten the basics of what makes for a good taxi. Only two doors, seriously - good luck seniors! The doors themselves open too wide (approx 3+ ft). It’s all too common in the city to have only 1.5-2 ft of clearance to the next car when picking up a passenger, momentarily double parked. The sloping rear roofline severely limits luggage capacity. Good luck with fitting two 30” suitcases, 2 carryons and two 35 liter backpacks (which do all fit in the trunk of a modest Honda CRV - try it). Note that in all this, I haven’t even discussed self-driving, which we had no way of evaluating.

That's because that vehicle is a reskinned roadster. Do you think tesla can put together a new vehicle in 6 months? It's a stock pumping game.

The robotaxi vehicles from companies that are already running are basically dumb machines loaded with pricey and complex sensors to map out everything around them in 360 degrees to prevent collisions similar to a robotic vacuum. However, with the chaotic traffic environment caused mainly by reckless drivers, distracted pedestrians, and grumpy cyclists, these vehicles struggle to make decisions in tricky situations and need human remote assistance. That’s not scalable at all. If you take a Waymo robotaxi out of the city it’s mapped, it can’t even move. Tesla takes a completely different approach. Forget those expensive LIDAR sensors; Tesla uses computer vision alongside AI. As Tesla drivers are out there driving and fine-tuning the FSD system, the AI learns how to tackle complicated situations. It thinks instead of just responding to sensors. Just like humans use their eyes to observe and interpret the world and make choices based on past experiences, Tesla's AI in the FSD system uses cameras to see the surroundings in real-time and makes decisions (it thinks and reacts) in the most effective way possible for each issue it encounters. In other words, Tesla's FSD is literally LEARNING TO DRIVE like a human would. And since this AI is learning from the experiences of thousands of drivers, analyzing their mistakes and successes, by 2025, it will be the most reliable driver on the streets. Unlike people, its calculations, decisions, and actions will happen in fractions of a second reaction times millions of times quicker than any human driver. When Tesla gets to that point, it can send its autonomous vehicles anywhere in the world, and they’ll know how to drive perfectly on roads and highways they’ve never been on before. So, do you understand why Tesla is going to dominate this game? It’s GAME OVER for the competition.

Not quite yet. Fsd learns to drive like a human but it doesn't have a human brain. The most advanced AI today with as much processing power as it requires still can't be considered human level intelligence, why do you think a 5 year old computer running on battery can be as good as humans? I can trust engineering and human backups but not that box with cameras.

You need to do more research on how the competition works. Waymo uses AI just as much as Tesla. Tesla has played catch-up in that regard. Waymo began as Google, and Google has been the leading AI company in the world for over a decade. They were winning competitions in image recognition before Tesla even started working on it. You can go back 10 years and watch videos about how Google is using AI in their self-driving cars. It's part of everything from the perception to the decision-making. It's a huge part of their simulation development. Deepmind, their Google sibling and one of the top AI research companies in the world, works with them on new AI approaches. You're talking about a data advantage, but you have it backwards. You're only considering data that comes from vehicles. But in the field of AI, the big thing that everyone is pursuing is generalization. You hear Elon talking about how self-driving AI directly relates to their Optimus robots. The same applies to Google and all it is doing with AI. Tesla has a lot of drivers feeding it image data. Google has billions of users feeding it image data, and that image data is vastly more diverse than what Tesla collects. They're also collecting data from Android phones, KZbin, their web crawlers that catalog the entire internet, and so on. Google is a data company. Nobody is bigger than them in this regard. You are misunderstanding about how maps are used and their value. Waymos can and do function when the map data does not match the environment. They have to, because environments change. When this happens, they navigate the same way FSD would. But a map is much more akin to the way humans operate, because what it really represents is memory. Humans remember details about the places they have driven, and this helps them drive better. They remember that the road has a big pothole. They remember that a stop sign exists at an intersection, even if some teenager has knocked it down. They remember that a lane is ending soon. They remember where the curbs are on a road that's completely covered with snow. Maps are memory, and they help Waymo make better decisions. When a change happens, the first Waymo to encounter that change handles it the same way FSD does. That information then becomes available to the entire fleet, allowing them to essentially share their memory - something humans can't match.

To anyone who reads this and wonders if it's actually true, the short answer is no. None of it is. If you'd like to do some research, look up how Waymo uses AI. Since Waymo comes from Google, it was natural for them to lead the way in this application of AI. Think about the data advantage question a little more as well, keeping in mind the various types and enormous amounts of data that Google collects from billions of users. Regarding maps, Brad Templeton has created a great explanation of how the maps are actually used, how the vehicles work when they don't have valid maps (they navigate like Tesla's FSD), and why maps are an obvious inclusion.

Amazing how many are complaining that the rodotaxi can't be done in New York City when it's already being done in China and South Korea. How about pushing United States to catch up instead of repeating the "it can't be done" attitude.

I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $100k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my finances remain secure. So I really don't blame people who panic.

Tesla 's presentation this week once again successfully deceived millions worldwide - including many of the company's fans and investors. At the event - where, among other things, Tesla's robot taxi and Robovan were unveiled - several copies of the company's Optimus robot were also present, which apparently did fantastic, sci-fi-like things - but only thanks to a cunning ugliness. At the show, among other things, the Optimuses mingled with the guests, played rock-paper-scissors with them, and even had one of them stand at a bar and start serving the press and guests - like a a real bartender would do. Except Tesla's robots did not work independently at all, but were controlled remotely by real people, their movements and even spoke through them at the event.
