I have a similar WoW story... I played the game for 4 months back when it came out- every day for about 6-10 hours. After the 4 months I had to renew my subscription but decided that I just couldn't do it and challenged myself to learn programming with the same level of dedication. I couldn't believe the hours I put into that game in such a short period of time. I didn't have a job at the time and devoted about 10 hours every day to learning web development (Ruby). After 4 months I had completed several projects and managed to get a job at a major publication. 15 or so years later and I'm very well settled into my career. I also learned *nix, vi and immersed myself into OSS. I love gaming, but like anything you can have too much of a good thing.

01:43 I thought you've read that wrong, so I went back and checked, then I thought it was a typo, so I checked the name and it's true. He is a 13 year old boy developing software. Future generations are lightyears ahead of us. When I was 10, I couldn't even tie my shoes... Regarding linux, I too learned a lot when I switched, it's open source-ness and small programs that combine into large ones even motivate me to write some of the software for my own use cases instead of searching for programs, from small scripts that chain commands, to whole programs like wm, application launcher and so on. It also made me embrace C and it's simple-ness, which surprised me. Windows is just a black box and even if people want to experiment, their hopes quickly deminish, with simple user apps having high barriers for working, that is, almost always they must be GUI in order to be usable because of the windows bad shell support, and additional tricks must be learned through the internet (no official or straightforward documentation) on changing simple things, like, automating some adjustment of windows settings, such as, toggling notifications on and off, or changing the volume via shortcut.

I heard the Chinese government limits the playtime in most online games? How does it work exactly, what if I have two accounts, or playing from gaming club/cafe?

Good question, but I have no idea, don't live in China and don't play online games
