Episode 107
After the success of the first two games, Dragon Quest 3 was one of the most highly anticipated games in Japan's history - It sold over 3.8 Million copies!
It wasn't quite as successful when it released as Dragon warrior 3 in North America, but it is still one of the best RPGs ever made for the 8-bit Nintendo! There are practically endless possible party configurations, and there's a massive world to explore. The English translation is top notch, clearly done by people who cared about the game's story.
So how did this game get made, and why was it so much more successful in japan than in the United States? In today's episode we'll find out, then we'll dive deep into the game play where we'll learn:
* The best starting party - Which classes should we choose?
* How to start the game with TONS of gold pieces!
* Where to find EVERY hidden treasure!
* Detailed Enemy Data! Learn which spells will work, and which ones will fail!
* The SECRET to leveling up FAST, with minimal grinding!
* Detailed MAPS for every dungeon, and town!
* The SECRET way to cheat at the MONSTER ARENA!
* Easy explanations of how that battle system and combat math work!
* How to build an amazing party for the end game!
* The best way to get exclusive weapons and items that are ONLY dropped by monsters!
* How to defeat EVERY BOSS - Even the Archfiend himself... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

This was my favorite game as a kid. I saved up all summer to buy this game when I was young. I had saved up previously all summer mowing my grandfathers lawn to buy Dragon Warrior II and had loved the first one. I sent in the trick to Nintendo Power in classified Information section about the Soldiers armor trick in the very beginning when you sell it off for extra money. It came out in the issue with Mickey Mouse on the cover and I was beside myself as a kid when I seen it printed. Favorite NES game and this is a great video. It's awesome seeing how much love you gave the first three games in the series. Love the videos.

4th one is way better once you know how to exploit torneko’s hustle. (Buy all steel broadswords or convert all his lost money to casino tokens, and of course sell his statue as it idles if you don’t). More characters and easier to get expensive stuff, and metal king slime is intuitively by the final dungeon. Do recommend buying heavy armor last, and for dq3 starting with a thief, merchant and cleric to class change into a sage, martial artist (merchant’s dig for more money with high luck, I got 10k once by low chance) and soldier/fighter (who can afford stuff now, mage to this once you learn oomph helps too). Gadabout is a luck exploit too (martial artist claws taper off but you can go for speed/criticals), though they’re too weak and slow to really bother being a sage (who has the slowest level ups and combine the mage and cleric spells, which is kinda redundant if you use one or the other, let alone dq3 and dq4 force that sage’s stone to multiheal all day vs oppressive final boss, which 4 has 7 forms and forces insulatle to reduce those breath attacks. Vid seems to be more about general progression though. 1:55 sexy/vamp personality for females only has the best stat growth (similar to final fantasy tactics war of the lions’ tynar rouge lipstick which is the most overpowered accessory in the game) when leveling. It is funny how these old games trick you about replay value when they mean research for optimal builds (late game thief and merchant are too weak and you already got money/good items dropped). I feel snes version of 3 is definitive as switch lacks treasures ‘n trapdoors.

I remember my grandmother playing this game when I was a kid, and I saw my name on the screen. When I asked her why the wizard had my name, she told me she made him that way. I was blown away. I was in a video game, casting spells and fighting monsters, not as a renamed character but as someone uniquely made. Ever since then, RPGs were my favorite games.

You just earned a sub, I realized that I've watched several of your (these) videos over the last few days, I've been off of work due to mental health reasons, which is less important than the fact that these, in some small part, have been helping me get through the days. It's refreshing to see games I've played explained in ways that, maybe I already understood, or explaining the parts I didn't. To laugh some aspects of the challenges that would be faced, such as in FF1, because I know them well, and just see feats accomplished in ways I didn't. So for what it's worth, I'm glad KZbin decided too put your videos into my feed. Thank you! =)

The next time I saw a copy was 20 years later in a used game store for $150 and that was a reasonable price compared to what it was going for online. Dragon Warrior 4 was closer to the end of the NES life cycle but still. When it was out you couldn't find a copy in most stores.

Dragon quest 4 is kinda a mashup of the first 3 games. Choose hero’s gender, play a boring sole Ragnar McRyan chapter 1 and have 3 playable characters with Alena chapter 2, which Alena and Ragnar don’t have magic. Torneko is far superior than the dq3 merchant (flip armors and use your wife’s store for profits then store as casino tokens or steel broadswords to sell for less as you can make infinite money, which helps the bs equipment prices in the series), which is just throwaway for a town or get money with digging by high luck. Congrats on finding a nice mashup fan game or hack though.
@brianvigue3907
@brianvigue3907 Жыл бұрын
@@Brayniac I built it from the ground up based on the idea of making the archfiends more involved rather than sitting in their castles and waiting to be defeated. Thus, all those mini-quests that exist just to take you from point A to point B-- which practically defines DW3-- are used to move the archfiends' story along too. Eventually Baramos, Hargon, and the Dragonlord all start one-upping each other. I also combined the chapter system of DW4 with a hiring system similar to DW3. All the classic assets are used, so I made a hobby out of it. Aside from streaming a play-through myself-- bleh-- I haven't really thought about what kind of avenues exist for a homage like this.

Wait, so not only do we NOT get a car, we're forced to travel the world ON FOOT to stomp a mudhole in a guy very few people even know?? And no one's manning up to give us a ride?? Man, this birthday SUCKS. This video, however, is excellent. I don't know why, but my mind instantly gravitated to THIS game when you said the biggest episode yet, and I'm glad I was right. This was... well, quite the experience for me. I think this is the first NES game I ever actively threw across a room because i got so angry (I evolved into ACTUALLY caring for my games since then, granted). Also, while DW4 will always be my favorite NES game (AND favorite game in the entire series), this is a very close second. The size of this adventure was RIDICULOUS for its day.

This was the first of your videos I watched, and now I've gone back and watched a ton of the back catalog. Just loving the chill vibes, nostalgia, and jokes. DW3 is such an amazing game, and it's crazy to think that such a long and complex game came out on the NES. I never would've thought to bring a merchant along, but it made sense when you explained. Pretty clever. Any chance you'll do DW4?

@@elishariedlinger559 the games have had remakes over the years on more modern hardwaren and for remakes they are very faithful with some extra additional content, some of which maybe easier to get heck the 6 games are on the app store. since 8 they have changed the title to Quest as that was the name for JP but had to be warrior in the west due to some copyright issue, few character names were changed like mara and nara becoming meena and maya with the late Akira Toriyama's art much more visible in it's presentation

@@elishariedlinger559 yeah that's fine but i will say unlike the hits and misses on modern remakes stuff the dq ones are actually pretty good, some of the games are basically the only version available in the west is the remakes such as 5 and 5 and if your European 1-4 and 7

Can’t wait for DW4. I think most of us would have been fine if you wanted to wait and release this on Saturday, just so you’re not rushed. If you do that one, you might want to start now and do it on the side whilst doing shorter games. You certainly have good taste, as far as RGP’s go. Although, I’m more of a cat person. I’ve written this before and I’ll write it again: Square was the worst thing to happen to Enix. I knew this would be the game. This is, and was, better than the 3 Final Fantasy games released for the NES. Shame it didn’t do as well here. From what I’ve seen so far, this video was well made and, as always, well worth the wait.
