@@phantomwraith1984 Problem is the movie is a satire. Its not meant to be like the book, and that's what I think divides the fans. The producer and director felt the book would be viewed as fascist, which isn't true, but, people cant think that deep these days. Plus no one actually read Robert Heinlein's thoughts on the book. He didn't think the world he built in the book would work. Starship Troopers was a fantasy, an exercise in thought. He was exploring different ideas of government. Who would be 'worthy' to be in politics? That sort of thing. Either way, the book was great, and this anime does a fantastic job of expressing it. The movie, if taken as the satire it is, is actually kind of funny. That scene were the teacher is clapping as her students smash bugs on the concrete? Perfect. 🤣 If you haven't watched the movie and think of it as a satire, a comedy, I recommend you watch it again with that in mind. You might find a new appreciation for it. I love both for what they are and try not to blend any of them. The book, the movie, this anime, or the computer animated series of movies. All stand on their own merit for what they are. Same thing as why Putin's Russia isn't showing soviet era WWII movies anymore on WWII related commemoration dates - all those movies were antiwar ones. Problem is that he wouldn't get funding and support on an openly antiamerican movie that critiques current events during such massive media coverage backed by both financial and political capital. So his way around that was to say that he's making a sci-fi movie and look up what IPs were available. @Scudboy172 жыл бұрын
Some random trivia- the anime for Starship troopers came out in 1988, but it had been in development in various forms since the late 70's. Tomino, the creator of Mobile Suit Gundam cited ST as his main inspiration- and its why the mecha in Gundam are called "mobile suits"- as in Mobile Infantry. Early designs for this ST power armor can be seen in the Daicon III opening Animation fan film which is easy to find on KZbin- and it was made in 1981. After this anime, similar designs show up in Madox 01 and in the Halo Legends anime shorts. Similar designs also show up in the Machine Krieger sci fi manga and novel series. Non-anime related nods to ST show up a lot in Wh40k with the Space Marines and their power armor, tho the suits in 40k aren't as mobile and heavily armed as Mobile Infantry suits, they do use drop pods for orbital drops and use similar tactics to the MI with individual units used as pinpoint attacks against key targets and what we would call shock and awe attacks designed to overwhelm and demoralize the enemy. The Halo prequel "Marathon" has a call back to a trooper decapitating himself when saluting during his first day in the Mjolnir armor, a nod to some of the MI suit training drills from the book. And lastly the Clan power armor from Battletech is strongly inspired by ST as well, with the power armors have the same immense mobility and heavy firepower (for infantry any way) tho the Clan suits aren't packing pocket nukes. They do look like the descriptions for the MI suits tho with the overlong arms and stocky body with oversized jump units on the back.
@chayudyodchit28722 жыл бұрын
I find it kinda amusing That Studio Nue manage manage to make "book accurate" suit that actually fitting the book description of the armors all the ways back in mid-late 70s while most western depiction of powered armor at the same year's were mostly inaccurate to the book(just look at avalon hill boardgame armor LOL), hell I'm always wondering why didn't they ever try to made proper collaboration with Heinlein in the past.

It doesn't have jump capabilities or built in weapons like the MI suits do, but it's a lot more maneuverable and better protected with it's shields. Mjolnir armor is based more on the US Armies idea for a heavily armored strength enhancing suit of power armor than the STs idea of a one man assault unit that could easily take out enemy cities or fortifications on the jump.

They share DNA. The Prototype is an iteration of Aramaki's Metal Skin MADOX, from the OVA of the same name. This, in turn, was inspired by the Marauder seen here done by Kazutaka Miyatake, of Macross and Space Battleship Yamato fame. Which, IN TURN, is an iteration on the original Naoyuki Kato design from 1975, which was some of the first graphical depiction of Power Armor... ever. Mr. Aramaki would also design John's suit from The Package IIRC, which would then be used as the basis for most of the Master Chief's designs in the modern day. Basically: Halo has a lot of Mecha in its family tree.

The suit's probably toast if the pilot it was protecting is dead. But it can run out of power and fuel. And you can bet you are going to be yelled at for losing the most advanced weapon system mankind has to offer. The suit is probably designed in a way that even if it were destroyed, the pilot may yet live. That way, if the suit sustained such heavy damage that the pilot inside was killed, it probably means that all the expensive parts of fine machinery and electronics were destroyed as well and what is left of the suit is now srap metal.
